PS3 rumble is all but confirmed. Sony finally implements a last-gen feature photo

We pretty much knew this was coming eventually and now it's been all but confirmed, barring an official press conference. After famously deriding rumble as a last-gen feature, Sony has demonstrated it was pulling the "I never loved you anyway" card that males use when their girlfriends leave them, as the company swallows its pride and puts rumble into PlayStation 3 controllers. The news was confirmed by IGN who felt the shakes when playing Burnout Paradise at TGS'07.

The controller looked exactly like the Sixaxis, save for a sticker that labelled it as "RUMBLE." IGN's Anoop Gantayat also noted that it was considerably heavier than the standard Sixaxis.

This leads to a few questions. Firstly, how is the new Sixaxis going to be sold? Will it come packaged as standard in future PlayStation 3 boxes? Will it be marketed as an optional attachment? Will previous games released before the new controller add in rumble features, possibly through a downloadable patch? How does this affect Talladega Nights? Most importantly though, how many "last gen lol" comments is this going to get from gamers? Humble pie tastes of humble, I heard.

Seriously though, well done for Sony finally dropping the act and joining the rest of us in the last generation.

Umm...Yeah, can we lay off the Parkinson's Disease jokes. Really man...Not funny. I'm not just saying that cause a friend of mine decided to commit suicide before the didease overtook him either. Generally speaking...Poor taste. What's next? Children with Leukemia?

P.S. Uwe Boll can kiss my @ss too.

P.S.S. I like rumble, rumble is good.

I love how people who own PS3s are all of a sudden all "rumble doesn't matter." I never heard anyone ask for controller manufacturers to take out the feature before Sony did. CLEARLY you didn't mind. Don't act like it's no big deal that they went BACK a step in the evolution of their controller 'cause they're douchebags who refused to settle a justified lawsuit. You people disgust me.

Everyone else, enjoy the horrible joke in that caption. I was laughing so hard I was shaking... that's terrible. Shame on me.

Also, Jim, I like you, but you should fucking rot for that pic.

How does this affect Talladega Nights you ask? I smell epic cross-over advertising opportunities - Sixaxis: Shake n' Bake edition.

I think Sony is fucking up by putting rumble into the SIXAXIS. The best thing they could do is stick to the couple of lies that they have spouted about it is impossible to do and that it is last generation. If they continued with those lies they would at least be consistent. By putting rumble into the SIXAXIS Sony is basically admitting that they are a bunch or fucking retarded cunt bags.

Jim,
We both know there were legal proceedings which prevented them implementing the"last gen" rumble. Yes they spun their reasons at first, but they had to keep it under wraps-Phil Harrison came out and said as much after the fact stating that is why it wasnt originally included. Let's not spin and mock it negatively? The write up makes it seem as though Sony didnt want to include it originally-come on.

everyone knows they are happy that rumble is back. the only people who are against rumble are the people who wanted it sooo bad, but phil harrison said it was so last gen, so everyone started to be against rumble and said sixaxis is a lot better and all. now that rumble is confirmed, chumps are trying not to be stupid by being all against it...

destructoid has a terrible sense of humor. wtf dont make fun of people with problems. would you like it if everyone laughed at you when you broke a leg or something?

Maybe I'm the only person here who thinks the picture is offensive and not funny. Fox is a good guy, as honest as the next time traveler. I get the joke... and I'm usually open to offensive things but for some reason I can't bring myself to laugh at this.

I'm glad the rest of you like it though. Good for you

Last. Gen. LOL.

In years to come, non-rumble PS3 controllers will sell for almost as much as used copies of Jet Force Gemini.

Sony intially wanted rumble for PS3. The boomarang controller was supposed to have rumble, but when they realized the controller was too radical and there might be a backlash. They panicked and dropped the boomarang. But it was late in the game, there was no time to redesign a new controller. So they used a PS2 Duel Shock, fiddled with it a lil bit and quickly rushed it to market with no time to figure out how to make rumble and motion control work at the sametime.

While all this time they've been defending their choice not to have rumble and putting it down, suggesting that gamers dont like it. Which was bullshit. They've actually been secretly working on the rumble version. Because rumble is where it's at, even though I never use Rumble on 360. It eats batteries for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Heh, that picture is so wrong. I found it morbidly amusing, I'll admit.

As for the rumble, good to see it is coming back. Still not a "gotta go out and get a PS3 now" feature, but still nice I suppose. Maybe it'll even actually be relevant to me, someday.

If we can't laugh at things, then the thought police really are winning. Great caption...super funny. I have epilepsy and I make fun of myself all the time. I always say to my wife "remember, honey, if I pee my pants and I forget who I am...I'm having a seizure, take me to the hospital". People are way too sensitive. For example, if I ever get Alzheimers, I hope my grandkids(if I have some one day) play some jokes on me...at least they'll be getting some fun out of the situation!

In the words of Sgt.Hulka..."lighten up, Francis".

Lack of rumble and now rumble late, compromising their Sixaxis. Seems like Sixaxis was tagged on all along (like many said) if they are discarding it this easily. No word on if this new pad is wireless, let alone sporting both sixaxis and rumble. Now there's the 64k question.

Deathsaw, at least MS and Nintendo got this one right out of the box. Wireless and rumble, do Sony have both I wonder? The lack of rumble shows how on the ball Sony are this time round, slipping everywhere. So much focus on film and less focus on games was always a bad idea.

If you ever play Bioshock on 360, you'll see how rumble access improves the experience.

Nobody said anything about removing motion sensors. And Microsoft and Nintendo have their hardware flaws as well. The 360 turns into a red ring brick after about a year, and Nintendo doesn't even have a rechargeable battery in the Wiimotes.

Going back to fix design mistakes is always good for the consumer... quit yer bitchin.

Oh Sony.... First you have to copy a major feature of your competition to avoid your controller being no better that the PS1, now you've completely side-stepped all the spin you put on the lack of rumble and act like it never happened..... At least you have your legions of fanbots who will partake of your Kool Aid and forget the spin too.... It's really odd though, because were this Nintendo, the word 'liar' would be floating all around this one...
