PS3 rumble is all but confirmed. Sony finally implements a last-gen feature photo

We pretty much knew this was coming eventually and now it's been all but confirmed, barring an official press conference. After famously deriding rumble as a last-gen feature, Sony has demonstrated it was pulling the "I never loved you anyway" card that males use when their girlfriends leave them, as the company swallows its pride and puts rumble into PlayStation 3 controllers. The news was confirmed by IGN who felt the shakes when playing Burnout Paradise at TGS'07.

The controller looked exactly like the Sixaxis, save for a sticker that labelled it as "RUMBLE." IGN's Anoop Gantayat also noted that it was considerably heavier than the standard Sixaxis.

This leads to a few questions. Firstly, how is the new Sixaxis going to be sold? Will it come packaged as standard in future PlayStation 3 boxes? Will it be marketed as an optional attachment? Will previous games released before the new controller add in rumble features, possibly through a downloadable patch? How does this affect Talladega Nights? Most importantly though, how many "last gen lol" comments is this going to get from gamers? Humble pie tastes of humble, I heard.

Seriously though, well done for Sony finally dropping the act and joining the rest of us in the last generation.

Am I the only one who doesn't give a wit about rumble? Oh wow, the controller is buzzing in my hands, I'm so immersed in this game right now!

I never really notice rumble for some reason, so I don't mind my lighter Sixaxis controllers.

Jim do you sit in a room and think "hmmm how can i make this the most offensive/hilarous thing ever" and then when you come up with that idea throw it away and come up with somehting even more offesnive and hilarious, but even then you say "Nay my good british sir, this is not good enough for you" and incernerate that idea and then and only then come up with photos and captions like that?

The sad thing is, that's not even the worst picture I saw today. I won't post it, but if you're feeling masochistic check Deadspin's front page. It's Oscar De La Hoya in drag. I'm going to wash my monitor out.

So wrong on the pic...

Took me a while to figure it out, but I'm smiling a little.

I wish my SixAxiS had rumble and weighed more. I just hope the don't charge a lot more for the controllers. They had better get these to retail before Christmas too. And, it would be epic if they retroed a few of the bigger titles to use the rumble.

First : that picture is so..fucked..up.. it makes me sad.

Second : This is one of the best articles I've read from you, even if it is short, for such comments as

"it was pulling the "I never loved you anyway" card that males use when their girlfriends leave them"

and pretty much the whole third paragraph.

PS. - last gen lol & TALLADEGA NIGHTSSSSSSS!

I fucking care. So much so that it can be the decider on which system to buy a multiplat game for. It's a minor thing but it just makes the experience that much more enjoyable.

I still think rumble is unnecessary. At least I have non-rumbling controllers.

It honestly added very little to gaming but then again I don't really play fps. I assume it's be handy to know if your getting shot, you know if you aren't paying any attention to the on screen indications

They better gimme a free fucking Sixaxis for making me buy a console without rumble. I can see the stockpiles of used and new sixaxis controllers piling up already.

Idiots.

Well, technically rumble was a feature in the last console generation (and the one before that). I will be disappointed if this new controller has the same boring rumble I was shutting off all the time before. I didn't realize what I crashed into that guard rail when I spun out was not a car, but a huge electric shaver. News to me, I thought Gran Turismo was about cars.

Touchsense, if that's what it ends up using, might be better, but if it buzzes every time I fire a shot in DMC4, it's getting shut off fast.

@Necros

"Think of sautéing a dish in white wine sherry. Why would you throw in all the ingredients at once? Some cook faster then the others, therefore... patience and timing are needed in order to create the perfect pièce de résistance."

"How does this effect you? Now you can enjoy your pièce de RESISTANCE with a little PLAYSTATION3 SIXRUMBLAXIS."

LOL Last gen.

Seriously, Phil Harrison said in an interview that Sony was through a legal battle "so what did you expect them to say?" when people brought up rumble. We all know this is the reason for not including it. The last-gen comment is old and tired. Much like RRoD jokes and Wii minigame jokes.
