It seems that the PS3 version of Prototype doesn't always want to install on your system correctly. According to Joystiq, your PS3 may tell you that you don't have enough space for the install. The workaround, provided by Activision support, has you changing the amount of disk space by 700MB in whatever way you can. You can install games, demos, and other downloads. Apparently this gets things moving.
Activision on the matter: "We take this issue very seriously and are working to resolve this issue as soon as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause."
I asked the Destructoid crew what version of Prototype they were playing for some insight. Unfortunately, they are all playing the Xbox 360 version. I guess that could be considered a fix too, though. Joystiq jokes that you could be installing or demoing inFamous instead, but the word here at the Destructoid offices is that our reviewers are leaning more toward Prototype. Just not on the PS3, though.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?

In fun factor, definitely, but nothing else (not even replay value). This issue isn't the only sloppy thing wrong with Prototype.
prototype is fun, but it reminds me of Spider-Man: Web of Shadows alot... especially in terms of how buggy and graphically ugly it can be at times.
as for the game itself it seems to be getting mixed reviews, I saw get a 9 out of 10.......then a 2 from another site and a few 7s here and there so I'm guessing its a decent game but someone screwed up along the line. Considering the dev and publisher I'm not shocked.
the proof is in the shape shifting pudding
It installed fine on my PS3. Anyways I think Infamous is far better than prototype. Its a more polished game visually and gameplay. Prototypes missions are too similar and the game in general lacks variety. Sure theres a ton of moves you can do in a massive city, but there are so many buildings that all look the exact same. Prototype is not a bad game but I think it would of been better if it stayed in the cooker a bit longer. Also another thing about prototype which pisses me off is that its too easy. If you get in a big chaotic fight and your about to die, all you have to do is run the the next block consume some people to get a bit of health back and the go back to it blowing up tanks or choppers. And other one of my problems with this game is that I dont give a shit about the story or the characters and the over abundant of swearing in the game is more annoying that "badass". There is a level of swearing when it fits, but this and Killzone 2 go over the limit to the point of ridiculousness. I really wanted to like this game, I fuckin was so excited for it when I saw the trailers and gameplay. But Im just board with it now, it has its pros and cons like any game but its cons outweigh the pros. Anyways thats the way I feel.
Definitely. Review-wise, which would take more than fun factor into account, inFamous should score at least 1-1.5 points higher than Prototype for all the reasons you just listed. IGNs review nailed it on the head: I think they're just getting a lot of flak from 360 fanboys who hate inFamous.
Also, sure, the moral system is "shallow" in inFamous, but the fact that it has one instantly warrants another playthrough, as opposed to Prototype's "one-shot story".
BUY inFamous. Much more polished and fleshed out.
[prototype] is the trendy teeny watered down 360 version.
Besides, if you own a PS3 you can have both.
I'm no console fanboy - I'd have all three if I could, but I'm still waiting for that fabled PS3 price drop before I make that commitment. So, in the meantime I'd be interested in Prototype if its a good game, and buy InFamous later when I have catch-up time with a new PS3 and an old, cheap back catalogue of games. Otherwise, I may just continue saving my money. If I can.
DTOID hasn't posted this story BUT...
The internet is a buzz with the PS3's Price Cut.

If IGN is biased with "pretty much anything" as you say, then wouldn't that make them....oh, I don't know... UNBIASED??!?! What a concept! Look, I believe some sites can be a tad biased, Gamespot towards the Xbox for example, but now-a-days, people feel that every single site out there is biased to every single system... which makes NO DAMN SENSE. People are taking it waaaay to far with this whole 'biased' deal.
An opinion is one thing, a videogame review from a respected games journalist is another beast entirely. These guys didn't just get their jobs because they have opinions, otherwise I'd have a viable job in the industry. They got their jobs because supposedly with years of experience in the industry you can discern what the average gamer will want out of a game and what will really affect their desire to purchase the game. IGN editors have been around for a long time, and yet at certain times they approach videogame reviews with this whole "I didn't like it because I don't like things that are fun and also I hate that publisher/developer anyhow" mentality.
I'm also not that keen in the "Stealth" parts of the game or the whole taking people's bodies ordeal. It would be cool if the game had monsters with badass moves and then change into them and have a new set of moves.
Agree with The Prodigal Son 100%, the demo I found to be good but not mind blowing and it doesn't do the full game justice AT ALL. I'd probably go a bit further, too. inFamous is not only the best PS3 exclusive, it's the best game on PS3 and probably the best game of the generation. It's not as fun as Saints Row 2 and it's not as awesome as Metal Gear Solid 4, but it strikes a stunning balance between the two. The only real shortcomings it has is that the game is done and the trophies collected before you're ready to stop playing and we won't be seeing a sequel for at least a couple of years as Sucker Punch is off working on Sly 4.
I don't know that it's an anti-PS3 bias with those guys, but it's certainly a bias against fun. At least Anthony will come around eventually because that guy will pick up a game for five minutes with either no clue what it is or a huge misconception and then come back to it later, put in some real time, and then love it. But usually still have the wrong idea about it, as was the case with Eden, not a relaxing chill on the couch game but a hardcore time trial game in disguise.
inFamous = yay
Prototype = meh
On a note actually related to the story, I think Prototype should be tons of fun. Incredible Hulk Ultimate Destruction was one of my favorite games of the last gen, and if Prototype is even half the game that was, it should be awesome.
Shame about the bug, though. How does no one catch this before a game is released?
Not EVERYONE is affected by this bug...
They're working on a patch for the PS3 Version.

Now, I may not have a PS3, but am looking to buy one, but on appearance and word of mouth alone it seems this is another Saints Row VS GTA. SR being Prototype, GTA being Infamous.
Prototype = More Stupid Mindless Fun
Infamous = More Complex Oscar-Winning Fun
Prototype comes out here tomorrow, so...woo. After that, it'll be 30% less "from what I see".
Thread hijack.
I have to say that Prototype is a big let down. After playing inFamous and Red Faction (2 very awesome sandbox games) Prototype feels just like its name....It just isn't quite ready for prime time. For every "wow" moment, there are 5 "WTF" moments.
I still don't get why they put 200 blue orbs and 50 red orbs around the city yet give you no way to actually find them unless you're right ontop of it...Since the draw distance is pitiful you can't even make it out if it's on a building a block away. But that's a minor gaffe compared to some of the other shit I've seen.
Have I made a mistake in pre-ordering Prototype? I just got confirmation of dispatch, and I was soo looking forward to the game. Should I still look forward to it?
On a hopeful note, it currently has a score one point higher (86) than inFAMOUS and Red faction Guerilla on Metacritic.
I would still like to try Prototype but I have not heard anything good from anyone I know...
I think this is a problem with the PS3 itself and not the games, and the developers have probably been told they can't talk about it.
The good reviews I've read are really good, whereas the bad ones are kind of meh...
