PS3 price cut? The UK says "Si"

PS3 price cut? The UK says
     PS3

Got you all worked up with that headline, didn't I? I bet a few of you are even sporting wood, and furiously hunting for a bottle of hand lotion, aren't you? Well, keep it in your pants, freak, it's not quite what it seems.

According to GamesIndustry.biz, UK e-tailer Aria has dropped the price on the 60GB version of the PlayStation 3 (by a whopping 25GBP aka $49.06USD) only three days after its official launch. Their reasoning? Here's a quote;

Speaking to GamesIndustry.biz founder and managing director Aria Taheri explained, "We're running a promotion to create market awareness. This offer will only run for a limited period, and we have a limited quantity of machines available at this price."

Recently, we've received a lot of conflicting reports on how well Sony's flagship product has been faring across the pond; some claiming it's failing utterly, some claiming it's the new iPod and a few claiming every console released so far has been purchased by Emma Bunton and quickly devoured. Until Prince William calls us back, the only thing we can be sure of is that the PS3 has been released on that side of the Atlantic and that I will never stop using that Churchill picture.

Hi guys, I was the one who sent the news about the failed evening launched of the PS3 in Paris. Well here, in France, it's hard to tell how the PS3 is selling. I can only tell you that the biggest video game reseller in France (Micromania) claimed to have sold 10000 units by noon the first day (Friday) and probably a lot more saturday. I went to a local Supermarket monday evening ("Leclerc" may be the biggest supermarket franchise in France) and there was a few ps3 left on sell "over-the-counter".

Dropping the price by £25 brings it into line with the rest of Europe. I visited the UK last week and the price difference between Irish bundles and UK bundles was something like €50. You could nearly buy a game for the difference in price. Some outlets like GAME are offering bundles which could more accurately be called scams at the moment.

Still, it appears to be selling. I witnessed a Virgin store with a sign claiming 105 PS3s in stock on Sunday change the sign to 80 in stock on Monday. Who knows how many they sold preorder, but it wouldn't surprise me if it was the same again. So they're selling and very well.

One other thing i forgot to tell : I live in Moselle a region of France near Luxembourg and the price is 575€ in Luxembourg versus 599.99€ in France, that's may be the reason there are still PS3s remaining in stores.

The picture is old, Dtoid is meant to be fresh. Not stale like a locker room.

GAME in the UK are the biggest scammers ever. If you must buy games from the highstreet, do it in Gamestation - at least they do decent retro for fair prices.

Burnout in glorious "full HD" is very appealing, though I feel I must rob a bank or something similar to achieve owning one of sony's black bitches.

I think lower their prices is the last thing they need to do. First they need to allow you to have one-armed lezbian rockstar orgies in the Sony HOME

I went around the electronics stores where I live in the UK on the day after it was released (a busy Saturday) and asked them how many they had and how well it was selling. No one was sold out, Game filled their preorders and had a whooping 63 left over. Game, Dixons and Currys (all big chains) told me they weren't selling particularly well. The manager in Virgin Megastore refused to answer me and threatened to call the cops if I didn't stop asking questions. I took that as a 'no'.
