PS3 owners want Final Fantasy XIII more than 360 owners photo

Gamasutra is reporting that Final Fantasy XIII is the most anticipated PS3 game of all upcoming titles, topping a chart of games that PS3 owners want the most. Despite its multiplatform status, it seems that Sony loyalists aren't ready to abandon a title that many of them most likely bought the PlayStation 3 for in the first place.

PS3 owners certainly want the game more than Xbox 360 owners, if the recent polls are to be believed. FFXIII ranks fourth in the most anticipated Xbox 360 games, trailing behind Halo 3: ODST, Modern Warfare 2 and Madden NFL 10. Another interesting difference between the two polls is the fact that, outside of Halo 3, all the other Xbox 360 games are multiplatform titles (unless you want to count Broken Steel), while the PS3 poll lists such exclusives as God of War III, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, inFamous and Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time

This year seems to have seen an interesting turnabout when it comes to exclusive first party titles. For the past few years, the PS3 has been tarnished with the stigma of having "no games." In 2009, I think it's fair to say that the PlayStation brand has a whole range of first party games, while the Xbox 360 seems to have a pitiful amount to show for itself so far, outside of the Halo franchise. I wonder when PS3 fanboys will finally summon the gall to reverse the "no games" charge at Xbox 360 fans.

That said, both the PS3 and 360 lists are dominated by identical multiplatform games, which suggests that the audiences are almost completely the same. When you consider how much PS3 and 360 fanboys hate each other, it's amusing to consider the fact that, deep down, they are exactly alike.

Lies, all lies. lol

Owning a 360, I am rather excited for Final Fantasy XIII. Any square-enix game for that matter.

this makes sense - really what else do PS3 owners have to look forward to?

CAPTAIN OBVIOUS!I mean really, isn't that the whole point of buying a PS3? To play RPGs? Think about it, if Bungie is going to release Halo 4 on the 360 and PS3, who do you think would want the game more? 360 users or PS3 users?

Also Microsoft does have an advantage when it comes to PC gaming.

Yup, it's official, Microsoft needs to buy more third party developers to make more exclusive games for them. That or they should bribe third party developers to make exclusive dlc.

This article is obviously biased against the PS3!

Jim is clearly calling PS3 owners out as a bunch of filthy weaboos, while pointing out how cool and awesome 360 owners are for liking intellectually rewarding stuff like Madden and Halo!

Honestly, I'm surprised. I didn't think people still had this kind of faith in Square games.

Although I will admit that seeing those videos of the demo did pique my interest for XIII. It looks(at the very least) like it has an engaging battle system.

I'm surprised. The thing that makes me wonder is, the most anticipated game for the PS3 is multiplatform and the most anticipated game on the 360 is an exclusive title.

If MS does a big ad campaign for FF, I can easily see GoW3 taking the most anticipated title for the PS3.

Wow, Jim, that was deep. I came in expecting a flame war, but you really summed that piece up beautifully. I'm left feeling somewhat vulnerable. I hope that Brad Nicholson character isn't anywhere near.

I have both systems, but I will be picking it up for my PS3. Don't feel like disc switching.

Color me a little surprised I would think that GOW3 would top that list more than FF13 especially with FF13 being multiplatform now. But its understandable as I imagine that plenty of people bought a PS3 early on anticipating FF13 being a PS3 exclusive.

I'll buy XIII, but I agree that some of Square output has been lacking, and many of their jrpgs are becoming cliches of each other. I love the way all those characters don't ever reload their guns in the XIII trailer. It looks great, that does...lol. I hope XIII is good overall.

Personally, I'm looking forward more to Front Mission Evolved on 360 a bit more, and its so nice to see Square at last giving FM a chance. Less andro characters hopefully, as well as a magic free game, tech based game.

I'm still up in the air with which platform I'll be buying it for. Unless some there are big differences between the two (performance/graphics wise or extra content) I'll probably get it for the 360. Mostly because I prefer the 360 but also because I'd get a tinge of satisfaction if (no matter how unlikely)the 360 outsold the PS3 version just because of all the hardcore Sony fanboys that started petitions refusing to buy the game after it went multiplat.

The fact of the matter is that fanboys are the same on either console. If you are lucky enough to own more than 1 console chances are that you know what's going to be better on what system. In my case.. any multi platform game that includes a big multiplayer aspect(COD4, COD5, GTA etc), 99% of the time i get it for the 360. If it's single player (final fantasy, and most rpgs) then i tend to go with PS3. So yes, i can see why ps3 players are looking forward to FFXIII. I know i am.

It doesn't matter what console you get it for, it'll be the same amazing game at the end of the day unless DLC comes out for one of them.

Either way I'm still looking forward to getting it for my PS3.

Oh and I think PS3 owners might be looking forward to it more because of the bigger Japanese market, just my two cents on the matter.

Personally, everyone I know with a PS3 bought it for its full library of games even if some are multi platform, Blu-ray, internet browser etc. etc. People like to stick to a timed and tested formula of Playstation, heck my PS1 and 2 are still working perfect.

Anyway bring on the never ending FF series with FF13.

yes, it's true, 360 owners are just meatheads who can't quite grasp the intricacies of jrpg controls and their emotional plots, so they can't be looking forward to this thing too much...

I'm actually looking forward to Ratchet & Clank A Crack in Time, more than Final Fantasy XIII.
It's still at least another year off and the Japanese will get it for a full year before we do. At least with R&C: ACIT, I know it will be out fairly soon and it will totally rock!
I for certain will buy FF XIII but the demo they released, isn't all that inspiring.

Last year's announcement of FFXIII on 360 and other JRPGs+horror games made me buy xbox360.As long as i'm getting Magna Carta 2 n End of Eternity on 360 this year , i'm cool. It's sad i won't b getting MGS4 and Heavy Rain though.

Actually i don't really mind games getting released on both 360 n ps3.It's the increasing number of games getting released on PC which makes me wonder what's the point with buying consoles.

And Wii is the one with most exclusives , 'nuff said lol.

Captain Fucking obvious must be on vacation.

This is as obvious as obvious gets. The fact that FF XIII is anticipated more on PS3 is a no-brainer, but the fact that it's number one is what throws me off. I can't believe it triumphed over GoW 3, especially being that FF XIII is now multi-platform.

Personally I feel a little left out in the cold by S-E with the 360 titles released so far. They all felt either rushed or cheaped out on to me. But I haven't given up on them yet. I'm still holding out fangirlish hope for KH3 to be the great multi-platform love-a-thon the world needs. Anyway, that's besides my point. I think the only reason it seems like 360 users don't seem like they want it as much is because of the larger and wider variety install base. But that seems like stating the obvious... Stats really can be manipulated to support any fact.

I think the reason is because of Final Fantasy's androgynous characters which challenges the sexuality of the 360's homophobic user base.
