The PlayStation 3 sales overcame those of the Xbox 360 week in Europe, according to the hardware sales numbers posted at CVG.
It looks like the PS3 price cut was just enough to get European gamers to take the plunge. With the new 40GB model hitting shelves, and the 60GB model seeing a price drop, 64,000 PS3s were snapped up last week, just missing the Wii numbers by about 6,000 units.
The Xbox 360 had a good run during the Halo 3 launch, even edging out the Wii, but it has now fallen to last place for current generation consoles, ranking below even the PSP and PS2.
Despite all of that action, the DS still takes top honors, with 171,260 units sold just last week. It prints Euros!

VGChartz.com has never provided any evidence that it does this or any other practice to gain authentic figures, so for now we must continue to ignore it for it is clearly fabricated nonsense.

How can you people say that the only game worth it's cost is a game that isn't even out yet?
Resistance, Motorstorm, Heavenly Sword, and WarHawk (all titles I own) I've found to be more than worth what I paid for them. Especially with the online play included in three of them. Are these games perfect? No. There's no such thing, but they're fun and you can only get them on a PS3.
This argument that there are no games for the PS3 that are worth it is petty and tiresome. If anything there aren't that many titles, but I don't have all day to play games so I don't finish playing games the night I buy them like a lot of you. Aside from Resistance, which is out on loan to Tazar, I'm still enjoying every one of these titles.
Yes. It doesn't have the breadth of titles that the 360 has, but it's been out a year longer.

pwned88, that's your opinion of those titles. Above I stated mine. Neither of us is wrong, but you must agree that not everyone feels the same way about those games as you.
Despite Heavenly Swords shortness it was extremely well received by the media and blogs. It's taken me much longer than 5 hours to beat it (maybe I suck), but I enjoyed every minute of it. That (to me) is worth the cost of the game.
Something makes me think you're one of those people I was referring to above. The type that has loads of time to play, whips through games like crazy, and gets bored fast. If so, stick with your 360 and let the rest of us have fun with our PS3s.
FYI, Warhawk is great fun. We play two times weekly here on Dtoid. Wednesday Night WarCawks and Friday Night Fights. The last few times we've had more than my server can handle (8) and it's been a blast.
Seriously though. I'm just reminding those of you who will listen that it's not as bad as the trolls make it out to be. It's not a 360 or a Wii, it's a PS3. It does have games. It has some good games, some average games and some awful games just like every console has ever had.

@Sunami88, That's just Dtoid players that get together on those two select nights for a few hours to play together. Of my buddy list (50), there are probably 40 players of WarHawk total. Not everyone can get together every time you know. Those matches really aren't any worse than FNF for the 360.

My opinion is backed by many game review sites which i'm sure are ran by more than just one person, more than just dtoid keep re-iterating that the console is failing and valve states that it was a mistake all togther. And yeah, about the 32 ppl, i've had 16 in one house, organised the night b4. And about me playing games all the time? Thats actually pretty laughable, i'm rarely home and when i am i want a game with re-play value after i've burned through the story mode in <5 hours. lemme name a few, halo 3 <played on my free, resurrected 360 btw> battlefield, CS, half life, and my personal fav would b burnout 3 on my PS-deux<ZOMG SONY PRODUCT!!!!11oneone> over the years of owning that game, i've probably invested 120+ hours. Impressive. But, that's over LAN not over Live! and you live in a very gaming-concentrated building. I've not been in a dorm in 8 years. I live in a house, and don't have the "luxury" of having hundreds of people live within the area of a single football/soccer field that are all my age and have similar interests. My complaint was only that people say that there are no games worth playing on the PS3. My argument is that there are games for the system that I feel are worth playing, and that have received good reviews from reputable places (including Dtoid). Sure, not everyone is going to like these games, but there has got to be at least one game on the PS3 that is worth it to everyone who has, and likes, their 360. I believe this to be the case because the games that are out have similar themes/gameplay styles to those on the 360.

@pwned88, I apologize for my assumption about your gaming habits. I see your point about re-play value and Heavenly Sword. I've gone back a few times to redo some of the levels I really liked, but not really had the desire to play through again. However, HS had an extremely high production value. It was like playing a movie. The actors portrayed as characters in the game had such excellent voice acting, and facial expression. The story was truly epic. For me and many others it was worth the money. For some (perhaps you?) it wasn't/wouldn't be. It's essentially the cost of a couple Blu-ray/HD-DVD movies... 5 hours of entertainment... probably works out...

Well, seriously. The "no games" argument against getting a PS3 is old hat at this point. The library doesn't compare to a 360's and I never said it did, but there are some quality titles to be had.

I can see yur argument on the production quality, no arguing there, it is def one of the prettiest games i've seen in a while, all i know is i'm not a fan of movie style games, the last one i played was xenosaga, and out of about 40 hrs of game, 26 were cutscenes. Not my style, that is all.

Just because R&C is very colorful and has a furry animal for a character doesn’t preclude adults from playing it, and the humor in those games certainly isn’t for kids.

I wish I could get in on the FNFs, but I just always go out on fridays, and as for WNW, I always work on wednesdays. Last time I brought the PS3 to work, I messed up my shift a little. (I work at a radio station, so I don't have to do anything until the top of the hour, so I have plenty of time to play on a tv and everything, but you can't pause an online match.)

OMG Why is it every time I read a forum involving the 360 and the PS3 all I read is posts on how bad the PS3 is doing. I wonder if the skeptics are aware of the 10 month trends of both consoles. according to a reliable source NPD the PS3 is at the same sales figures as the 360 where at 10 months and also the software issue where both identical. Both systems failed to have enough software in the first year on the market. The true sales figure will be made in the second year of the PS3 just as they where made in the first. Yet as popular as teh PS2 was it was selling even fewer console it's first year then the PS3 is this time around.
I personally don't care what console you prefer. In my mind they all do some things great and other things terible, but i don't go online and spend hours bad mouthing microsoft and Nintendo because i don't prefer thier consoles. Too each his or her own opn which console they purchase or purchased. whith all of them sofware will come along after time and as we saw with the xbox and the PS2 they pushed the capibilities of each to the max and made some of the best games on the market after a couple of years.
So I myself will wait a couple of years before i say anything about anyones choices on what console they purchased..
Funny thing is as it stands today the wii is winning the minds of most families anyway. This could be because there are far more younger children that play games then there are us older generation and seeing as most of the Xbox thrillers are FPS and seem to make online play more important then storyline and individaul player games where sony spends its money on the wii kills both with family games for the entire family.
So really is it worth fighting about day after day. Personally i would rather play games more then write on this blog about this issue.

@SonyJoker, I hate to say it, but I can almost guarantee that the first GTA game for this generation of systems will sell better on the 360 because of it's install base. Cross platform games are not a good way to judge a system's popularity this generation IMO.
Sony, just needs to stay on their studios and make sure they put out quality games. If they release good games like the ones I mentioned above and help 3rd party developers like MS is doing then that will go a long way towards getting the PS3 out of 3rd place and into 2nd. I'm afraid that the Wii is a beast that will put both MS and Sony to shame this generation. That and the Wii2 will be out much sooner than the 720 and PS4 will be.
