PS3 outsells Xbox 360 in Europe, 2-to-1 photo

The PlayStation 3 sales overcame those of the Xbox 360 week in Europe, according to the hardware sales numbers posted at CVG.

It looks like the PS3 price cut was just enough to get European gamers to take the plunge. With the new 40GB model hitting shelves, and the 60GB model seeing a price drop, 64,000 PS3s were snapped up last week, just missing the Wii numbers by about 6,000 units.

The Xbox 360 had a good run during the Halo 3 launch, even edging out the Wii, but it has now fallen to last place for current generation consoles, ranking below even the PSP and PS2.  

Despite all of that action, the DS still takes top honors, with 171,260 units sold just last week. It prints Euros!

These, too, will drop off once people realize the only worthwhile game on the system is Ratchet & Clank thus far. And that only ships today! Haha.

Look at their source - that website from hell called VGChartz.

For the uninformed this is a website which alleges to gain sales information from retailers around the world and then publishes it all online for anyone to see.

Of course, anyone with a brain will realise that no retailer who values their supply chain will give out this super secret information so we're left wondering, where does the information come from?

VGChartz.com has never provided any evidence that it does this or any other practice to gain authentic figures, so for now we must continue to ignore it for it is clearly fabricated nonsense.

I've already buried the submission of CVG's article on digg as inaccurate, because that's quite frankly what it is. Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft should sue the proprietors for slander.

How can you people say that the only game worth it's cost is a game that isn't even out yet?

Resistance, Motorstorm, Heavenly Sword, and WarHawk (all titles I own) I've found to be more than worth what I paid for them. Especially with the online play included in three of them. Are these games perfect? No. There's no such thing, but they're fun and you can only get them on a PS3.

This argument that there are no games for the PS3 that are worth it is petty and tiresome. If anything there aren't that many titles, but I don't have all day to play games so I don't finish playing games the night I buy them like a lot of you. Aside from Resistance, which is out on loan to Tazar, I'm still enjoying every one of these titles.

Yes. It doesn't have the breadth of titles that the 360 has, but it's been out a year longer.

Get a new argument!

Cereal though. It does have games. And, I think now that it's 400$ in the US (-BC *tear) the BS3 is going to pick up steam. More games are coming. Yes, the 360 has more games. Get over it. If you don't want one, why flamebait with shitty arguments in the first place. GTFO my innernets.

aww, looks like the SDF has returned so defend their console once again! heavenly sword was over in 5 hours of repetitive gameplay, motostorm epically failed at anything more than arcade racing when yur buddy comes over, and resistance, although a good game, isn't enough 2 justify the purchase of a $499 console. Hmm....a week after a price drop and a major release in R&C, I would have been surprised if that didn't push sales.

pwned88, that's your opinion of those titles. Above I stated mine. Neither of us is wrong, but you must agree that not everyone feels the same way about those games as you.

Despite Heavenly Swords shortness it was extremely well received by the media and blogs. It's taken me much longer than 5 hours to beat it (maybe I suck), but I enjoyed every minute of it. That (to me) is worth the cost of the game.

Something makes me think you're one of those people I was referring to above. The type that has loads of time to play, whips through games like crazy, and gets bored fast. If so, stick with your 360 and let the rest of us have fun with our PS3s.

FYI, Warhawk is great fun. We play two times weekly here on Dtoid. Wednesday Night WarCawks and Friday Night Fights. The last few times we've had more than my server can handle (8) and it's been a blast.

Seriously though. I'm just reminding those of you who will listen that it's not as bad as the trolls make it out to be. It's not a 360 or a Wii, it's a PS3. It does have games. It has some good games, some average games and some awful games just like every console has ever had.

Maybe I'm odd man out in believing that the BS3 is worth the money?

Obviously not in Europe...

@Sunami88, That's just Dtoid players that get together on those two select nights for a few hours to play together. Of my buddy list (50), there are probably 40 players of WarHawk total. Not everyone can get together every time you know. Those matches really aren't any worse than FNF for the 360.

Way to take my statement and attack me with it. What we're you hoping to prove? That because there are only 8 people that get together and play warhawk together that somehow that translates to the rest of the world? Naive at best.

In contrast, if there's someone out there like me that reads my statements and likes what they see, I've done them a favor and helped them realize that the PS3 is probably worth getting for them.

My opinion is backed by many game review sites which i'm sure are ran by more than just one person, more than just dtoid keep re-iterating that the console is failing and valve states that it was a mistake all togther. And yeah, about the 32 ppl, i've had 16 in one house, organised the night b4. And about me playing games all the time? Thats actually pretty laughable, i'm rarely home and when i am i want a game with re-play value after i've burned through the story mode in <5 hours. lemme name a few, halo 3 <played on my free, resurrected 360 btw> battlefield, CS, half life, and my personal fav would b burnout 3 on my PS-deux<ZOMG SONY PRODUCT!!!!11oneone> over the years of owning that game, i've probably invested 120+ hours. So yeah, not sony hater, just not a fan of failing consoles <really REALLY and the new R&C tho>

Impressive. But, that's over LAN not over Live! and you live in a very gaming-concentrated building. I've not been in a dorm in 8 years. I live in a house, and don't have the "luxury" of having hundreds of people live within the area of a single football/soccer field that are all my age and have similar interests. You could do the same exact thing with a PS3 and WarHawk.

What's this all about? You say this like somehow you've proven that the PS3 is somehow magically worthless for every human on the planet.

BTW, I was correcting your English, not actually calling you a towel, like you called me. That's called Ad Hominem and it's not an argument, it's an attack at me meant to dissuade me from further argument. Not this time buddy. Since when are you the crusader against Sony anyway? What did they do to piss you off so much?

My complaint was only that people say that there are no games worth playing on the PS3. My argument is that there are games for the system that I feel are worth playing, and that have received good reviews from reputable places (including Dtoid). Sure, not everyone is going to like these games, but there has got to be at least one game on the PS3 that is worth it to everyone who has, and likes, their 360. I believe this to be the case because the games that are out have similar themes/gameplay styles to those on the 360.

This is a good statement, though it's not really what we were talking about in the beginning.

Do you truly believe that it's going to fail?

I personally see this as a three horse race with no clear losers. The winners will be us gamers of course. Competition breeds good games.

As far as throwing LAN parties... I'm too old for that shit. In fact none of my IRL friends even have a gaming system whatsoever. Consider yourself lucky I guess (you and tsunami88). Honestly, I was just throwing the WNW and FNF out there to let people know about it. It's still in the building stages anyway.

@pwned88, I apologize for my assumption about your gaming habits. I see your point about re-play value and Heavenly Sword. I've gone back a few times to redo some of the levels I really liked, but not really had the desire to play through again. However, HS had an extremely high production value. It was like playing a movie. The actors portrayed as characters in the game had such excellent voice acting, and facial expression. The story was truly epic. For me and many others it was worth the money. For some (perhaps you?) it wasn't/wouldn't be. It's essentially the cost of a couple Blu-ray/HD-DVD movies... 5 hours of entertainment... probably works out...

Well, seriously. The "no games" argument against getting a PS3 is old hat at this point. The library doesn't compare to a 360's and I never said it did, but there are some quality titles to be had.

That's all I was saying. Then we got off on, whether it was failing, or how much of a towel I am (which is besides the point).

I decided that I would take a stand against the tyranny.
