Listen Internet, we have a love/hate thing going on lately. While I love your ease of use, free porn, and of course ability to put food in the mouths of my 10 children, sometimes you just annoy the f*ck out of me. Such is the case with Sony news lately. Any anti-Sony rumor is sucked up faster than a porn star with rent to pay. Why? Because the Internet is full of other console fanboys looking to clog the system with their vile untrue rumors, all in the effort to make sure the PlayStation 3 and Sony is a failure -- as if what they say on the Internet will ever have anything to do with real-world sales.
Such is the case with the latest "rumor" that an "unnamed source" said the PlayStation 3 would be delayed until September of 2007. According to a CVG article:
High placed sources within the industry have already been tipping April as a more realistic launch window the for console. But a source has told CVG that a PS3 delay as far back as September 2007 is now far more likely, pointing the finger of delay at -- yes you guessed it -- "component shortages". And let's face it, you don't launch a console in summer.
And, of course, the Internet picked this up and went into full-on Sony bashing overdrive. Today, Sony issued a statement saying, "uh, no." GamesIndustry had the goods:
"We're still on schedule to launch PS3 in March throughout the PAL territories. All speculation otherwise is without foundation."
OK, got it? Put down the pitchfork and return to your cottage. Stop trying to spread malicious rumors and just play the damn system you love. This rampant hate is starting to get re-god-damn-diculous. If I see another story on Digg that says, "OMGZ SONY SUXORZ AND WII IS BEST CONSOLE EVA!!1!!1", then I'm going to puch a baby in the face.
um. sony does it to theyself.
Namco has said their games are going to have to sell 500k units just to profict, more than consoles have even been manufactured so that's what, a 120% game attachment rate, for every game? not even I-Banker douchelords have enough money for that... devs go for the systems on which they can expect the best return of investment.
At what point will you stop calling anyone who dislikes the PS3 "fanboy" and start to realize that maybe, just maybe, somehow, beyond all your predictions, this console is not capturing the imagination of the people.
Can you suppose just for a moment that the PS3 may not be what most people want?
Sure, its possible that fanboys infiltrate topic or a post or even a site, but to claim the entire internet is fanboy? That may be a stretch, even for you.
Fanboys have a vested interest in some bullshit competition some people call a console war. I find it hard to believe the entire internet has a vested interest in seeing sony fail. And if they do, maybe Sony has done something to piss a lot of people off. I can't imagine what Sony has done in the last few years that might engender some animosity from the masses. Can you?
And yes, Sony bashing is the most ridiculous thing ever. Almost no one owns a goddamn PS3 yet everyone (in DICK) seems to have an exact recollection of every flaw (real and invented) in the system.
STFUAJPG bitches! let Sony make 4 million of these babies and pull a MGS4,FF, DMC combo on you and then we will talk how much "console wars winner" the freaking Wii truly is (specially in Japan).
More importantly why do they feel they need to bury other consoles? no one invented crap up about the ngage, the phantom (project) or the dreamcast for them to fail. Why do they feel they need to attack "the PS3 weakpoint for massive damage"? Maybe they feel their favorite system is not THAT good and need a good push to pull trough?
Btw, exactly how popular is the Wii going to be when every console has a motion sensor controller?
It doesn't take balls to say what Summa said, it takes misunderstanding.
I don't think "everybody" is thinking the entire internet is fanboy, well unless the Sony fanboys constitute "everybody".
If you (or anyone) finds themselves in a position of defending the company resposible for the rootkit fiasco, then you need to seriously reexamine your motivations.
And people don't need to "make up" bad shit to try to hurt Sony. There are plenty of legitimate problems with Sony as it is without fabricating them.
Whats happening on the internet right now is not fanboyism. If anything, it's backlash. This is a common phenomena when a company or product gets "too" popular and is often initiated or worsened due to a stint of bad press. It has nothing to do with MS supporters or Nintendo supporters. To think it does is a drastic and inaccurate oversimplification.
As for the Ngage and phantom? I beg to differ. They were/are the laughing stock of the internet for quite some time.
That being said, I agree, people need to settle down and give Sony some time to sort out their launch. It's been a mess of overhype and underdeliver and while it's totally Sonys fault, they deserve time to get it fixed. Am I an anti-sony fanboy because I realize sony is doing more things wrong than right, right now? Every console maker has bouts of bad decisions. Nintendo certainly has, and so has microsoft. In the end though, its this internet "fanboy" that buys an aweful lot of consoles, so Sony better start figuring out how to make them happy.
This is just so you punch the baby doll in the PS3 commercial.
I will say this though. Back in January when people started spreading "rumors" that Sony would not be able to launch in Japan by March 06, a lot of people chalked it up to Sony haters. Sony vehemently denied it and said they were on track of a "spring launch". In the end, we know what happened.
Unfortunalty it's hurting gaming BIGTIME.
By concentrating on Sony and bolstering it's competition at all costs all of nintendo's flaws and MSs are getting okayed.
The Xbox360 is the PS2 of this generation and then some. Not only are the drives failing, slotloaders damaging disks is failure, but updates are bricking the systems. Sometimes this is being taken care of quickly but I have been seeing some pretty bad responses on non-gaming sites to MS tech support on these issues.
Nintendo cut its launch numbers to Sony like levels and backed away from its 1 million by christmas promise, 4 million is long dead. Maybe it'll be 2 million Maybe not.
No one cares because they are not Sony so it's okay to screw over gamers. Because of... lets see bluray, rootkit, UMD, historically accurate crab monsters, and Betamax. So obviously Nintendo and MS should get a free ride on their issues and screw gamers till they cry uncle.
And yes you can place me squarly in the Sony camp. So long as I get to keep all my Nintendo systems.
Who is giving MS and Nintendo a free pass?
I have seem LOTS o' posts here and elsewhere about MS updates bricking systems, the most recent back compat update that still sucks and and is unfinished, wireless headset issues out the ass, Nintendo straps breaking TV's, windows, faces, etc. Tons of people are complaining (me included) that the VC titles coming out in N.Am. are poop and when the hell is this "online" thing supposed to start working. Or how about the weather and news channels? Oh, and did I mention Wii codes is shite? The launch list for the Wii has also been pretty well destroyed and lots of people are complaining that 1 year after launch and MS STILL only have a couple of must own titles.
Sure, Sony is absorbing the brunt of the internets angst right now, but "free pass" for ninty and MS is not quite accurate.
who cares anyway, why would anyone without a mental disease get a console without any kick-ass games for €600 in spring?
I honestly didn't know much about wii issues execpt the numbers cut and the breaking straps. Quite frankly I was expecting to see more outrage over the Nintendo issue. I already got set to not have a PS3 for christmas but there were supposed to be 4 MILLION wii's. Now there MAY be a million. I won't be able to get either.
Why on earth isn't Nintendo being called out for the same crap as Sony?
Honestly I'm only thinking of the babies. Think of the children.
"You all is haters tymes 4. Dis is lee-git. Don't know why youse thinks this is a schill. Are site was registered through an external provider. We don't work for sony. And for all you dissin' my skillz I'm down for a one on one rap off or settling it street stylez if you feel me playa. Teh. I own a Nintendo DS and I love it. I would still like a PSP for shizzle. But the DS is just as solid."
Yet nobody here mentions that.

Not sure where you are getting your numbers.
There are ALREADY 1 million + Wiis that have been sold globally.
As I recall the 4 million number was for "shipped globally" and I'm not sure if they have pulled that back or not.
Regardless, I would rather have them correct their numbers than have them ignore the fact that they aren't meeting estimates. Sony claimed they would have 400K units in N. Am. for launch and they didn't and to my knowledge they still have not admitted it.
But who cares, the point is that the internets are harsh on Sony right now but they are still hitting MS and Nintendo in the appropriate soft spots to keep them honest.
Or more concise: PS3 not being delayed in Europe... again.
Y'see, it's not just the internet or the videogame group and their fanboys, it's a society thing. People really need to reactivate their manners and common courtesy. Life on the internet must allow people to think their free to say anything they want without consequence, especially in the realms of just being polite in which they forego. Ever played online games be it via text or headsets? Ever hear how foulmouthed some people get that it ruins the experience? It's the same thing. Unfortunately if you surround yourself with that you think fair is fair and behave the same way, even to people who were never like that to you. Individuals get blended together as this one nasty faceless name and people eventually don't bother making a distinction and one day the whole of society is now a collection of rude individuals who'd like nothing more than to get even and bash each other for whatever stupid reason they can use.
So yeah, be nice and stop all this nonsense, this "console war." And Robert, you might want to follow your own advise and reexamine your own past behavior. You should be setting a better example.
