The PS3 Jailbreak fiasco just keeps getting crazier. The latest development is the launch of a new app (obviously not getting linked to here) that can unlock every Trophy in a given PlayStation 3 game automatically, with random timestamps for added believability.
It's not yet clear if the app can sync Trophies to the PlayStation Network. If it does, this could have serious implications for the reward system, and ostensibly make a mess of the entire thing. It will at least render Trophies even more worthless than they already are, which is saying something.
A few games, notably Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition and Batman: Arkham Asylum, have proven impervious to violation. Sony says it is looking into the situation and will find a fix. Looks like even more firmware updates are on the way, folks!
Right now, the PS3 is a flyblown carcass getting picked apart by scavengers. Like that animatronic dinosaur in the Natural History Museum. You know the one.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Also, in b4 a bunch of ignorant white knights proceed to badmouth the geeks who opened the system up and lumping everybody together with the cheaters.
Remind me when to give a fuck.
Pretty sure Sony won't either to be honest.
Some of us like the added challenge of getting difficult achievements. It adds to the life and fun of a game. Not everybody is an achievement whore, you know. The actual points mean nothing to me, the actual achievement means everything.
PS3 is getting ass-raped. If anyone thought the PSP was bad, this will be a god damn pirate playground.
They wouldn't dare do that.
Why would they want to cheat and ruin the game?
@BenHaskett
x2 man.
@KwikPwn
If this turns into my PC online hacking session games I will literally cry. I pretty much stopped buying PC games due to the sheer amount of people cheating. CoD: MW4 was my last big PC purchase and I tried to jump back into BF2 but that was also insande. Aim botters can suck it, they sap the fun out of the game. I guess they just LOVE clicking a single mouse to win.
I'm almost lvl 13 for trophies, this hack makes my E-peen shrink up inside my body.
Related: Has anyone seen DVD copies of Reboot?
I'm sure there's someone out there that is just itching to hack in trophies fairly completed before they was added to Burnout Paradise. And I salute that man. Sperg on, friend.
Let us back up our games but no online play and no trophies. Let us use roms but no trophies and only approved roms and emulators for micro cost of 99cents. Hold contests for best homebrew and let people in on your own terms. Actualy ban users.
Lots of people find them fun. If you don't care, that's cool, but let's not pretend your opinion is the only one.
I kind of like trophies, but now they're damn near worthless. I hope that these hacks don't culminate in a cheater-filled online community. I also hope that they don't cause devs to shy away from working on PS3 for fear of pirating.
To any devs that might be reading this: there are those of us out there that pay for and love your games. Don't stop making them.
They will be releasing S1 and S2 in March of this year. Show was the shizznit!
I always thought the trophy system was bollocks anyway. This is sad news for anyone that was invested in it though.
wahh. pretty much nothing they do will effect ps3 users that much.
when you pirate games you spend an hour with it tops unless its the best thing ever even then you spend your time thinking, hell i have a whole library to play. trophies provide no sort of incentive and don't make you look better because some trophy heads actually rent games with easy trophies to make a number next to their name slightly higher.
sony isn't nearly dumb enough to react with the same forced update on disk thing they did on PSP, as that says to pirate's "don't even bother buying games anymore even if you want to support them"
Not every single person with a ps3 has "jailbroken" it their system already s would everyone stop reacting as if only 4 people are left who didn't.
The size of ps3 games makes pirating them a task honestly. ot extremely difficult but way less instantly satisfying then beign able ot purchase ti and ... wait half hour for the install...
online will require new firmware updates, like it already does.
not all people who "jailbreak" will pirate and not all will try to get all trophies even if they do, who cares?
Oh, and sorry for the blank post.
it happened years ago to 360
If someone breaks the lock on your door while you're away, then yells out, "HAY LOOK WHAT I DID", you won't hold them just as accountable as the people who go in and steal your stuff? Interesting philosophy, that.
This happened to the 360 a while ago, they just swung the banhammer around and everything was ok, it will probably be the same deal here.
Also I totally agree with Elsa, homebrew my ass, all I've seen are hacks so far.
