PS3 Jailbreak: New app unlocks PS3 Trophies photo

The PS3 Jailbreak fiasco just keeps getting crazier. The latest development is the launch of a new app (obviously not getting linked to here) that can unlock every Trophy in a given PlayStation 3 game automatically, with random timestamps for added believability.

It's not yet clear if the app can sync Trophies to the PlayStation Network. If it does, this could have serious implications for the reward system, and ostensibly make a mess of the entire thing. It will at least render Trophies even more worthless than they already are, which is saying something.

A few games, notably Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition and Batman: Arkham Asylum, have proven impervious to violation. Sony says it is looking into the situation and will find a fix. Looks like even more firmware updates are on the way, folks!

Right now, the PS3 is a flyblown carcass getting picked apart by scavengers. Like that animatronic dinosaur in the Natural History Museum. You know the one.

Well I would imagine Sony would just start swinging away with their banhammer if they can sync their trophies. Hopefully they have a system in place that will allow them to detect the actual offenders and not harm the innocents.

People actually care enough about cheevos to hack them?

Also, in b4 a bunch of ignorant white knights proceed to badmouth the geeks who opened the system up and lumping everybody together with the cheaters.

Trpohies/achievements...I could care less if they were never implemented...I don't play games to brag about what I've accomplished..and some of them are downright silly...look how big my penis,I mean my gamerscore is!!!

So the unofficial(!) leaderboards for people with too much time and money (for rentals or otherwise) are going to be corrupted by this hack?

Remind me when to give a fuck.
Pretty sure Sony won't either to be honest.

Some of us like the added challenge of getting difficult achievements. It adds to the life and fun of a game. Not everybody is an achievement whore, you know. The actual points mean nothing to me, the actual achievement means everything.

Damn. Welp, PSN trophies are worthless now. (They were worthless before, but know they actually MEAN nothing)

PS3 is getting ass-raped. If anyone thought the PSP was bad, this will be a god damn pirate playground.

As long as they don't hack the online multiplayer.

They wouldn't dare do that.

Why would they want to cheat and ruin the game?

The trophy system was a mess from the start, so whatever. It's already too much effort to compare trophies and try to quantify them, does having 16 gold trophies make you better than someone with 700 bronze trophies? I'm level 5 or something, like 42% to 6.

@nanowerx; I totally get the difficult challenges, some of them are just really silly and monotonous...seeing something like; have your chacter turn left 4 times then crouch whilst walking backwards for 10 seconds-1o points..you can tell when a developer ran out of ideas or wasn't too keen on the idea to begin with

If this turns into my PC online hacking session games I will literally cry. I pretty much stopped buying PC games due to the sheer amount of people cheating. CoD: MW4 was my last big PC purchase and I tried to jump back into BF2 but that was also insande. Aim botters can suck it, they sap the fun out of the game. I guess they just LOVE clicking a single mouse to win.

I'm almost lvl 13 for trophies, this hack makes my E-peen shrink up inside my body.

It's funny people think this is so bad for Sony. Trophies hacked, OS hacked, no more OtherOS. It's like complaining on the Ford Mustang forums about how you're mad they use a different kind of screw attaching the glove box hinge. Super important to about .001% of consumers. Most will never even know any of this happened. I think Sony should actually be commended on how long they lasted without being hacked completely wide open. It had to happen at some point. Then again maybe I don't care cuz I still have my BC 60gig unit.

Well that sucks. Still, at least I can live comfortably in the knowledge that I'm not hacking my PS3. Until someone releases an SNES, NES, or Dreamcast emulator for it. At which point I'll spend all night voiding my warranty so I can play Jet Set Radio and the handful of other games I own for those systems.

Well, to someone modding their console, this is the last thing they'd really want to be changing - its only real purpose is to attract attention, negative or otherwise.

I'm sure there's someone out there that is just itching to hack in trophies fairly completed before they was added to Burnout Paradise. And I salute that man. Sperg on, friend.

What's the beef with trophies and achievements? They are just added incentive that make the experience better. Everybody comes on hear saying "I'm a real gamer that plays game to play them" I'm playing dance central right now and have almost every achievement. Why? Because there fun to unlock. I don't play super garbage games to get cheevos.

Sony should learn to embrace things like homebrew indie aps and emulators but find ways to mitigate other hacks.
Let us back up our games but no online play and no trophies. Let us use roms but no trophies and only approved roms and emulators for micro cost of 99cents. Hold contests for best homebrew and let people in on your own terms. Actualy ban users.

This is gonna be hilarious. When the 360 system got hacked, gamerscores went up like crazy. Now everyone and their mother is going to have platinums for games that you know they shouldn't (Demon's Souls, anyone?).

man, this blows.

I kind of like trophies, but now they're damn near worthless. I hope that these hacks don't culminate in a cheater-filled online community. I also hope that they don't cause devs to shy away from working on PS3 for fear of pirating.

To any devs that might be reading this: there are those of us out there that pay for and love your games. Don't stop making them.

yeah because a trophy is a measure of you as a person and people cared so much about them before.

wahh. pretty much nothing they do will effect ps3 users that much.
when you pirate games you spend an hour with it tops unless its the best thing ever even then you spend your time thinking, hell i have a whole library to play. trophies provide no sort of incentive and don't make you look better because some trophy heads actually rent games with easy trophies to make a number next to their name slightly higher.

sony isn't nearly dumb enough to react with the same forced update on disk thing they did on PSP, as that says to pirate's "don't even bother buying games anymore even if you want to support them"

Not every single person with a ps3 has "jailbroken" it their system already s would everyone stop reacting as if only 4 people are left who didn't.

The size of ps3 games makes pirating them a task honestly. ot extremely difficult but way less instantly satisfying then beign able ot purchase ti and ... wait half hour for the install...

online will require new firmware updates, like it already does.

not all people who "jailbreak" will pirate and not all will try to get all trophies even if they do, who cares?

If someone breaks the lock on your door while you're away, then yells out, "HAY LOOK WHAT I DID", you won't hold them just as accountable as the people who go in and steal your stuff? Interesting philosophy, that.

This happened to the 360 a while ago, they just swung the banhammer around and everything was ok, it will probably be the same deal here.

Also I totally agree with Elsa, homebrew my ass, all I've seen are hacks so far.
