Remember how the Xbox 360 was the lead platform for Bayonetta, leading to a slapdash PS3 port? Well, my fine feathered friends, fear not! The roles have been reversed this time around, with Platinum Games confirming that the PS3 is the development lead this time around.
"We're leading development on PS3," says director Shinji Mikami. "Obviously each console has its own unique requirements and limitations, but we feel if we can create a good enough presentation on PS3, we'll be off to a good start."
Platinum is developing the game for 360 too, which means Sega won't be handling any more shoddy ports. Hopefully this will lead to equal quality on both platforms, but the important news is that the PS3 won't be stuck with an inferior copy again. That's good news!

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

While acknowledging that the most important thing - that game itself is the same (of course) - and that in some instances cinematic sequences are better than expected, in many other areas the 360 version "isn't anywhere near as impressive as it is on PlayStation 3".
Making things worse is DF's assertion that it didn't have to be this way; that much of the 360 version's (relatively) poor performance in CGI sequences is down to "amateurish" video encoding on the part of Square Enix, with around 1GB of storage space left unused on two of the game's three discs that could have been put to work improving the look of the game's cutscenes.
Things aren't all bad for the 360 version. Digital Foundry notes that the game's framerate is consistently smoother on Microsoft's console, the 360 better able to stick to the game's target of 30 frames per second than the PS3.
Words can of course only describe so much, so for the full details on the breakdown and a big collection of comparative galleries and in-game clips, hit the link below.
Face-Off: Final Fantasy XIII [Eurogamer]
I'm sure they're being developed in parallel. Of course problems occur when your publisher decides your game is going to be on a platform that you haven't been anticipating since day one. It doesn't matter which way you port, it's not going to work. I don't think it's going to be an issue with Vanquish, but I'm also pretty sure that by the time it comes to market, no one is going to care.
Platinum Games making their next title on both platforms will very probably ensure that. Good news!
MadWorld - Wii
Infinate Space - DS
Bayonetta - 360(&PS3)
Vanquish - PS3&PSP (&360)
Good to see them trying lots of stuff!
I just hope when Vanquish is done Capcom do a deal to let Hideki Kamiya bring Viewtiful Joe to a close! From reading interviews someone else touching Okami hurt him a bit.
Henshin-a-go-go, baby!
Eh? EH?!
But I did read all the articles out now about how the next Final Fantasy looks like shite on the 360 compared to the PS3 version. So I guess that would even off any "loss" PS3 users felt about that ridiculous game for losers who'll never ever see a woman other than their mothers naked first hand.
You know who else had equality? The Communists. Are you a communist?
But with a hairy librarian that looks like a cosplayer at a comic convention.
Someone doesn't like cheese, I reckon?
I loved Bayonetta. It was so full of over-the-top sexuality and nonsense it couldn't help but be a joy to just watch and laugh with/at. Apparently some people just hate seeing a game have fun with itself... Still a bit skeptic about this, though. It looks like a shallow eastern take on an already generic western genre at this point.
