It seems like gamers are favoring Sony's PlayStation 3 lately, which is nice to hear (for Sony, at least) as that has not been the case for some time. Sony does seem to be turning things around post-E3, and these couple of nuggets of sales news point to better times for the console.
PunchJump's beady little eyes have spotted a 5,685% sales increase for pre-orders of the new 80GB PlayStation 3 model on Amazon yesterday. This is the set we heard about at E3, packed with an 80GB hard disk and a copy of
MotorStorm for $599. We saw similar increases at Amazon when the 60GB model's price dropped to $499, and as of Thursday it ranked as the #1 best-selling product in Amazon's Computer & Games category.
In Japan, sales numbers for the PlayStation 3 have doubled the previous weeks' count. We're not sure if it was the
'filthy upskirt' action of last week's Hot Shots Golf 5 release, but Sony managed to move 28,829 units in Japan on the week of July 23rd, up from the previous weeks' 12,000 according to
Games Industry.
Is Sony just starting a hot streak? Will things continue to go well for Sony as we move into the holiday season? Is a PS3 in the cards for you?

i used to be so sure that the PS was the console that was the least deserving of its sales, but due to recent events im not so sure anymore.

Also, Wonky, it's a bit silly to say that there are no PS3 exclusives, or atleast no good ones. They're no blockbusters like Halo 3, but Heavenly Sword and Ratchet & Clank and MGS4 are definitely awesome exclusives, 2 of which out for the Christmas season.
Somebody try to stop me.

So the PS3 doesnt get Halo. One (highly overrated IMHO) FPS does not completely destroy the lineup of the other console.
I guess its just convenience since you can just put any external HDD. But if i was going to be the smart shopper, I would get the 499$ PS3, and just pay $100 for 200g HDD space.
Wii60 all the way for us hard-working blue collar folk.
All the same, I'm glad it's not dominating, because that would signal to developers to forget about being creative or cost conscious and make the most powerful system possible.
i've had the same 360 since just after launch......as for the PS3 im on my 3rd, the first one kept shutting of during setup, the second one froze up every 20 minutes no matter what game i was playing,even with the F1 demo i couldn't even get through the 3 laps without it freezing up. i'm now on my 3rd PS3 and so far this one's ok,i'm pretty sure the fans were faulty with the previous two, i couldn't feel any air blowing from the back of either..
so don't be too sure the PS3 won't have any problem, judging from my experience with my PS3's i would tend to think there will be problem's
side note----luckely for me the place i bought my PS3 from took the defective ones back without any hassle (FutureShop)
that's weird, I rarely hear PS3 malfunctions, but I wouldn't put it passed it considering how PS2 went. I'm on my 4th 360 and they didn't even fix the damn problem I sent it in for originally. I called because of the disk tray not popping out when it stood vertically, then in between the phone call and the delivery box coming, I got RING'D and wrote a note in the delivery box about it.
So they fixed the RROD (which is more important) but I still wanted it to be standing up. The other ones just overheated too much and froze a lot. I'm on my first PS3 and it works great, no problems so far. My Wii is just collecting dust tho. Thinking of selling it.
I'm waiting to see if the Warhawk game will be any good for a party/online game with Heavenly Sword for my action game fix.
now my 360s processor runs about 24 degrees cooler the graphics run 10 degrees cooler and the co-graphics run 4 degrees cooler. (Temps are in Fahrenheit)
also all this was done befor Microsoft extended the warrenty from 1 to 3 years DOH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm sure people would pay you to mod their Xbox' as your set up sounds like a sweet mod. Also, you are the 1st person I know (well not personally) that has had suck crappy luck with the PS3. Had mine about 3 weeks after launch, no problems what so every.
What version did you buy? 20 or 60?
There are a few settings within the PS3 that can mess up if your TV isn't compatable, like running it @ 24hz or something like that in the settings.
Another thing is that pop up message when your friends come online, that always skips movies so I turned it off.
ALSO,
I can't believe people are still saying the PS3 is too expensive, its $499. The Elite (canada) is $549.....yeah PS3 is way to much........

What in the fuck is a ps3?
It's a real nextgen console ... if you find it too expensive ... just get a cheap 360 and buy a lot of stamps for the post office ... ring of death problems you know :))))
i tried getting the first one to work for about an hour,exchanged it for the second one,had that one for about a week,finished Resistance Fall of Man single player (froze about 15 times while playing )gave that PS3 the benefit of doubt thinking it may have been the game,tried Ridge Racer that froze like RFOM,tried F! demo, that froze after 2 laps everytime.took the second one back and now i have the 3rd PS3 that works fine with no freezing.
this is just what happened with me, i'm not saying it will happen to other people but with electronics who knows what coul be the cause..
yes i had the PS3 in a well ventilated area,plugged into a powerbar (on it's own) and tried plugging it into the wall socket.
i had the same problem with my disk tray with my 360 & the original xbox, the problem is with the rubber band that's connected to the wheels that make the tray go in & out, after awhile it gets a bit stretched out losing its tension on the wheels so it won't turn the wheel, on samsung drives the magnet on the part on top of the disk drive inside gets stuck stopping the drive from moving in and out freely,
you can replace the band like i did which fixed the problem on both the 360 and original xbox or just after you hit the eject button tap the top of your 360,above the disk drive which will release the magnet thats stopping the drive from opening
