PS3 Guitar Hero III flashes its dongle at us photo

Wired's Game|Life has managed to snap a candid shot of Activision's upcoming Guitar Hero III "letting it all hang out" on the PS3.

It turns out that the PS3 version of Guitar Hero III's wireless guitars require a USB dongle for proper wireless communication with the console. We all know that dongles are usually ugly, but at least these are somewhat clever, as they're styled to look like fat guitar picks. They feature a sync button and the GH3 logo.

They're still ugly, and it's a real shame that they couldn't get things working with the PS3's Bluetooth capabilities.

[thanks, JV]

Maybe it's more cost effective to do this than release blue-tooth compatible guitars.

Still man. That's a little weak.

Maybe now the BS3 will attract more women gamers.

Just food for thought?

While I agree initially, deiga, I'm pretty damn sure they don't need a worry about recouping costs on ANY title with Guitar Hero in it. They made bank on the last two iterations and not sucking up the cost for something so simple is just lazy and greedy. Shame on them.

Plus, I thought I had heard reports the 360 version would be packed with a wired controller and wireless would come later. Or was that Rock Band? Either way, why would one game not have wireless if the other did? I'm confused by MS's wireless controller bs. Oh well.

Hopefully it stays connected, unlike the damn PS3 controllers with the original 60 GB PS3, which randomly lose sync on me =<

Why do they need to be that big? The receivers for the PS2 wireless controllers fit right in to the controller slot and stuck out as far as a memory card. This is just sloppy and inefficient.

The PS3 comes with bluetooth, an industry standard for wireless devices. So what do cheapass peripheral makers do? Ship their kit with 2.5ghz dongles. Pretty stupid really.

As if the PS3 wasn't big enough, now it has a colostomy bag?
