PS3 gets 3D updates on June 10th in Japan photo

If you've been dying to play 3D-enabled PS3 games, know that an update to add this functionality is probably coming soon. For Japan, we know that the update will come on June 10th, and seeing as how they usually get feature updates at about the same time we do, I think it's safe to assume we'll see 3D in June. I mean, E3 is in two weeks.

The first three games to get the updates will be Super Stardust HD, WipEoutHD and Pain. Pain requires a 300 yen charge to add 3D functionality, but the other two are free. Well, free after the new $1500+ television you'll have to purchase to see it.

In a Sony Bravia promotion, Sony will be shipping these three games along with a demo of the 3D-ized Motorstorm 2 in Japan. So that's four games. None are "must haves," but this is a decent start for 3D.

MotorStorm 2 (( Pacific Rift ))
Is one of the BEST PS3 games ever!
It's the Killzone 2 of Racers in terms of graphics.

But 3D that would be cool for those who don't already own it...

I'll wait to pickup MotorStorm 3 however!!!

3D has more support than many want to acknowledge. Plus, the shit is phat. Can't wait to play games in 3D.

Bias much?

I read somewhere that you have to lower the resolution in order for the PS3 to render games in 3D. If so, do not want. Lowering the resolution is a stupid solution just for some gimmick. I rather go with better textures, AA, Multi-sampling, and higher frame rate than useless 3D that lowers the resolution.

This is absolutely stupid. I'm not dropping 2 grand on a new TV just to see a handful of games in '3D' layers. Especially if they really have to knock down the resolution to support it, and especially considering 3D TV's don't include the glasses you need to observe that effect. I'm sorry, but 3D is a waste of time and money, until we can design games in full, true, 3D, then there's no reason to jump on this bandwagon.

I've got no interest in shutter glasses. It's too bad "3D TV" isn't more like those Zalman monitors they were showing at PAX last year. Those things had lightweight glasses, similar to the ones you use at a movie theater (only they folded up and were much lighter), and the images were super sharp without any weird ghosting. That's tech I would pay for, not this synced shuttering shit on 120Hz televisions.

I feel like 3D WipeOut HD would make me vomit on Phantom.

Stardust would be fun in 3d... I think.

Methinks I will wait at the very least 2 years to get a 3D set. I dint want to buy one and have standard go from HDMI 1.4 to HDMI 2.0 or something. As it is HDMI 1.4 features a different connection than 1.3.

Motorstorm PR is my favorite racer of all time. It was like a whole new racer experience for me, with top notch graphics and combining mayhem with a great sense of speed. I still play it regularly, so when i found out about an upcoming 3D feature, i went totally nuts!! Of course i don't have a 3D TV yet, and probably won't have one for some time, but the prospect of experiencing a 3D version of one of my favorite games ever is definitely something that will push me to get one soon (i obviously gotta have more reasons than that, im not shelling out $3000 for just one game..!).

As long as the 3D doesn't ruin the graphics resolution...

I tried a 3D kiosk in Best Buy. I have no idea if my eyes aren't primed for 3D viewing or if the glasses weren't working, but either way I couldn't see the difference.

So what? The game is fun. Do you care so much about the graphics? What about gameplay, you know, the reason we play games?

Rather they sorted out this Credit Card problem. When trying to update my account with my Credit Card details, all I get is:

"The credit card information cannot be updated.
Check your PlayStation®Network account information, and then contact technical support for assistance."

Funny thing is, I transferred €5 from the exact same Card less than 20 minutes before that.

Super Stardust HD and Wipeout HD sort of "are" must-haves.

WipeoutHD is TOTALLY a must-have. Anyone who owns a PS3 without owning WipeoutHD is missing out on one of the best games on the console. Also, SSD:HD is a very, very good game.

My concern is they start nixing games in non-3D, just so as the performance stacks up when run in 3D :(
