PS3 games are the best, as stated by RESEARCH! photo

Analysts care not whether they fan the flames of fanboy rage, so it is that EEDAR has published research -- seemingly for no other reason than to start sh*t -- showing that PlayStation 3 games get the best ratings. According to the results, one in eight PS3 games get an average review rating of 85% or higher.

The thing is, most reviewers are terrified to give a PS3 exclusive less than 85% because an army of deranged, sex-starved, blood-hungry Sony obsessives will hunt them down. When you consider how much pressure there seems to be to give PS3 games high scores, it's hardly surprising that you see so many highly rated games.

On the flip side, the Wii and DS bring nothing but shame to the table with only 2% of their libraries getting into the 85%+ category. One must point out, of course, that their libraries are much larger. Ubisoft and Activision alone fill Nintendo consoles with enough shovelware to feed all of Africa. If shovelware was food. Which it isn't.

Going back to the PS3, there are some games that definitely deserve their inflated scores, such as Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4 and inFAMOUS. At least when it comes to these types of statistics, it pays for Sony to release a few excellent titles, rather a ton of mediocre ones.

Inb4 Sony fanboys across the internet use this as "proof" of the now "fact" that the PS3 is far better than the other systems.

I see that infamous was crossed out, did you change your mind with that? I'm really liking it so far. I'm on the last city and to me its been one of the best games for the PS3. It doesn't shock me that the PS3 is producing the best scored games. I mean the PS2 basically did the same thing. Sony is a quality company that pleases the hardcore crowd in Nintendo's absence. Just so everyone knows I'm not even a Sony fan boy.. funny enough I'm a Nintendo fanboy

Connecting to the "Is gaming press scared of its readers?" article, I've noticed a trend in defence. Well, maybe trend is too...special for it.

Xbox 360 Fanboys: Our game is better than yours, Your game is less good. Repeat for every third game.

PS3 Fanboy: .......................OH MY GOD ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME THIS IS RIDICULOUS THIS GAME IS BETTER THAN THE ENTIRE 360 AND THE 360 IS SO SHIT ITS AMAZING JUST HOW BAD IT IS.................. Repeat every 15.

Essentially, what I'm saying is this: 360 Fanboys are a steady stream of bias, like a river, giving bias here and there as they please. PS3 Fanboys are like an avalanche, in that they will only happen occasionally, but like HELL will it be horrific. The comments for the Killzone 2 review were like watching Monty Python the first time, complete disbelief followed by absolute hilariously stupidity to the point its almost as if it were scripted.

Good for the PS3 but have they checked how many games they are producing? let's say if the PS3 has 100 games 85 of them good but the DS could have 10,000 games and 200 of them are good. That was BS by the way but you get the point still review scores are crap as most reviewers will give higher scorces to games that are hyped to avoid fanboy ranting. There's a review on Gamespot for a Half Life game where people where arguing that 9.5 wasn't high enough and it should be given 9.6

Funny...i don't know 1 person with a ps3...

Where are they getting the scores from Metarcitic? Well on metacritic ps3 games only have half the number of reviewers 360 games have, which tend to raise their score a bit.

Don't believe me? Go to metacritic and check out a multiplatform game, the 360 one usually has 1/3 more critic review scores.

But what about Wii Fit huh gang? Now THAT's gaming gold.

Then again, MEtal Gear 4 and Little Bit Planet are really huge games, the latter one being actually really innovative. Unfortunately, I didn't find inFamous to be that groundbreaking and Killzone felt a little generic. Great games, just not what media made me believe it was.

Best? Eh. Really never going to get an answer there.

I stopped at home for lunch and, while I was having a sandwich, decided to see if the Killzone 2 update that is supposed to launch to day was available. It wasn't, but I realized in pulling Killzone 2 off the shelf, from between MGS4 and Valkyria Chronicles, that the PS3 kicks plenty of ass.

Because the game is not all that great at all.

A review of it is coming, with me, Anthony and Conrad working on the game. However, there was confusion over the sending of a review copy and I had to rush out to buy the game, so it's gonna be late.

You're kidding, right?

Anyway, as for the article, I don't care which consoles get the "best" games, as long as I'm enjoying them. If I really wanted to be a dick and point out how I actually do prefer the PS3 over the 360, I'd probably point out how it doesn't matter if the 360 has a better library if the console doesn't work. But I'd never say something like that. ;)

On inFamous:

I have only played the Demo for inFamous and I have to honestly agree. When I compare the game visually to others, it is pretty decent in those standards. Does alright. The gameplay I find is steady. I find that the game in general was good, but my first thought after completing the demo was "Maybe a bit overhyped, this one". That's kind of the way I take it.

Aside from that, I can't say that i've experienced everything the game has to offer. But from what little experience i've had, I can say that I agree that the game is not "great". But it's still decent enough to warrant a pretty good nod in favor of gameplay. That's just my opinion.

Reviewers are terrified to give PS3-exclusives less than an 85, Jim? I think you just lost all of your journalism street cred, bro.

The reason PS3 exclusives get such good ratings is because they're nearly all fantastic games.

You should also look up the meaning of "inflated." Perhaps it means something different where you come from or maybe Mississippi is just sinking its claws into you and making you retarded.

Yeah, I don't see how this information is useful to anybody other than fanboys. So only 2% of games are highly rated on the DS, that's still more than a single person could fathomably buy and enjoy.

I'd hate to not be considered a journalist!

"The reason PS3 exclusives get such good ratings is because they're nearly all fantastic games."

Just read the feature I linked to on this. I do believe that hype and reader reaction has a strong influence on game scoring. That's not taking anything away from the PS3 games that are legitimately great, like MGS4 and KZ2, but some I feel get a lot more than they deserve, like LittleBigPlanet, which is a damn interesting game, but has way too many flaws for all the near-perfect scores it received.

"You should also look up the meaning of "inflated." Perhaps it means something different where you come from or maybe Mississippi is just sinking its claws into you and making you retarded."

Inflated has several meanings, one of the ones I used being the correct one.

I see someone doesn't like infamous... reviews are opinions and a game does not have to be groundbreaking to be great, it just needs to be fun. People forget that. I'm hyped for Prototype too but I agree with most reviews, Infamous is great. Its a hell lot more fun than GTA4. I'd rather climb buildings and shoot people for the entire game than go out on craptastic dates and eating lunch with people in GTA.

Infamous reminds me of Uncharted but in a huge city. The fact that you can shoot anywhere and change which hands to shoot on the fly makes the game so much more enjoyable.

But hey, people have different tastes in games. Not every game is gonna get stellar reviews. I'd like to read Dtoids thoughts of the game and what makes it not good to them

I must agree with HPV. Jim you are not using inflated correctly. "there are some games that definitely deserve their inflated scores, such as Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4". WTF?? You are saying these games got unjustified high scores by saying they are inflated, but then say they are definitely deserving of that unjustified high score. Again, WTF?? Sir, you have crossed the line with your lack of logic. That is like saying Star Trek got inflated reviews, but it deserves them, cuz it was soooo good.

Tycho at Penny Arcade made the same point this week about Infamous:

http://www.penny-arcade.com/2009/5/27/

"This is happening with greater and greater frequency: my inability to perceive the game I have read about in reviews.

Infamous is a decent game, and that's the whole of it. Ironically enough, it lacks spark: it lacks impetus. Whatever power it does exert grounds out after a few hours, so that by the tenth hour I was twiddling my charged thumbs wondering if there was some other mutant that could torment this grey town. It's cool to shock dudes, true. That's a good Goddamned thing, because you're going to be shocking a lot of fucking dudes.

....

Something strange happens with platform exclusive titles when they come into contact with the journalistic edifice, and I don't know what it is. I would make sure you download the demo."

Wait, are we talking about exclusive PS3 titles, multiplatform titles, or any titles that comes out on the PS3?

As for the PS3 getting better scores, I guess Microsoft should start buying out more third party developers and more exclusive dlc.
