Sony kept its mouth shut about games last year, but now that it has some, the platform holder can't stop showing off. Sony is even going so far as to claim it has an "Embarrassment of riches" this year, and is going to "Arrest the competition" in terms of quality gaming.
"After Killzone 2 we've got MLB 09: The Show and then inFamous," claims Product Marketing VP Scott Steinberg. "It's almost an embarrassment of riches and it really bombards the competition with games that show the power and advantages of the PS3.
"We're shipping a great line-up and it's relentless and AAA quality. Starting it with Killzone 2, we're going to arrest the momentum from competitors with titles like MLB 09: The Show, which some are calling the best sports title ever made. Then in summer there's inFamous and you'll get to see even more excellent titles at E3. If PlayStation fans thought that we'd rest on our laurels from last year and if competitors thought that we'd punched ourselves out, both are mistaken!"
The next twelve months will see the aforementioned games, along with God of War III, Heavy Rain, MAG and Uncharted 2. Plenty of great looking games are on the cards, while Microsoft has been keeping things quite low profile lately. It'll be an interesting E3, that's for sure, and quite possibly the first in a long time where Sony has more to show for itself than promises and deflections. That'll be nice.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Cereals; I can't wait for Uncharted 2! It's gonna be tight.
I wonder if Microsoft have anything good up their sleeves?
And sorry...I'll go to a baseball game, I'll watch it on TV (especially if the home team was on the road to the World Series and then became the champs...GO PHILS!). But playing a baseball game outside of the old NES games always feels like a chore.
Here's to hoping that after next week Jim can post a PS3 news story without using the PS3 painted as a troll image!
I will NEVER stop crudely anthropomorphizing consoles. You'll have to get used to it.
Jim I dont mind your little windows paint style pictures, I think there ingenious, rivaling that of the great works of DiVinci and Picasso.
My mate raved about Kill Zone 2, he said it was the best game ever!! funny two weeks later he is back on COD5....
LOL. Whut? Sure, they're not overhyped Halo 3, but there's no way that a game that sells 1 million boxes can be considered selling like balls.
It's good for them to show off, just hope they won't brag all year.
Next time, don't release the highest-priced console during a deflationary recession.
lol
(To quote ZP, I'm white enough to own all three consoles, and I like my ps3. I'm just sayin'.)
Every time I turn on my PS3 I am literally ASSAULTED with quality.
I've also been anally VIOLATED by awesome graphics on numerous occasions.
You showed them! That multi-million dollar company just got served...
INTERNET STYLE!
Thanks for the explanation. I haven't touched a baseball game since one I can't remember the name of back on the PS1 (Wii Baseball doesn't count). Still think it's weird, but at least it makes a little more sense as to why it would be mentioned.
ill have about 6 ps3 games by th end of this year instead of the 20+ 360 games.come on sony we need more than a few games!
Right. MGS4 and a 5 minute distraction that was Little Big Planet. Don't worry Steinberg, I don't think that was the case for any PS3 fan.
dude, that game ruled!! i hate to admit it but i loved the beach volleyball game too :P
as for the PS3, heck yea! GOW3 just looks amazing, i may need to get gow1 and 2 just to remember where the story line was heading (never played 2, just beat 1 last year).
Glad I have all 3 of them :-)
Cant wait for e3.
