PS3 firmware v.4.00 released, a new era begins! photo

This is the 27th of Last Seed, the Year of Akatosh 433. These are the closing days of the Third Era and the final hours of my life.

Yep, the third age is finally done with, as we've moved away from the "three point something" firmware updates and are now entering the glorious world of fours! That's as many as two twos! Firmware update v.4.00 has been released to the delight of PlayStation Blog commenters, and we are all excited to see that green loading bar again.

The main focus of this update is to pave the way for the PlayStation Vita. With the fresh firmware, users will be ready to transfer music, photos, videos and games between the PS3 and the upcoming handheld. You will also be able to back up Vita saves on the PS3 and use the home console to update the Vita's firmware. Boy, I'm glad Sony's thinking about software updates for the Vita already!

Let the golden fourth era commence!

It wasn't a huge update either! Didn't know you could back up saves for the vita, that would explain the huge price for the memory cards.
I hope there is a power struggle over who will lead us in this brave new world. Those are fun.
Hope they made like 3.7.7 instead of 3.8. That was the real high point of the series, to be honest.
WOOOOOO, can't wait to get home and try this shit out.

I eagerly anticipate the review, which is no doubt forthcoming. But from this impression I'm thinking high lines.
Back-up Vita save on PS3, that will save people from spending money on bigger memory cards.
Is that Patrick Stewart?
I wonder: if it follows the same formula of previous iterations will it get a 5 or a 9.5?

<3
Nines, I'm thinking high Nines.
an era of freedom and all will know that 300 firmware updates gave their last breath to defend it.
But has much changed?
the funny thing is i went to my local gamestop to pre order my vita just because i heard if you pre order and you live in europe you get a cool ps vita wallet with places to put vita stuff in but they did not have the wallet so fuck it. i will check next week if they have it
Meh, Firmware hasn't been good since 2.00. Sony needs to give it a rest and just try something new for once.
not much and why the hell are we non people that live in japan getting this update last i checked it was coming out in febuary for us
Morning Jimbo, haven't seen anybody over here comment on this:

http://andriasang.com/comyxu/

If you're able to download content and store it on PC, you may not be that hard pressed to buy that big of a memory card, not that I'm justifying their sleazy way of omitting their mention when first revealing the Vita, but at least it's an option for those of us who will likely put up with that shit in order to get our hands on a Vita.
The Wheel of Time turns, and Ages come and pass, leaving memories that become legend. Legend fades to myth, and even myth is long forgotten when the Age that gave it birth comes again. In one Age, called the Third Age by some, an Age yet to come, an Age long past, a firmware update rose. The update was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning.
Finally!
The 4th age will be glorious, but the 5th age will bring the darkness, I've heard.
Princess Two Twos.
DAMN THESE UPDATES TO OBLIVION!
Wow, 4 different version on a single console cycle? Sony is pushing it, but I have faith.
I have faith.
Ugh. I was doing my best to forget how bad the faces were in Oblivion.
I don't love everything microsoft does, but they're tons better about this stuff than Sony. I'm actually looking forward to the update on my xbox in a week. I dread loading a game on my ps3 because I know that between firmware and title updates it could be forty-five minutes before I get to actually play the game.
@Polite Gentleman,

If it is repeating itself in 15 years, then maybe a 5.
I think i found out something new with this update. My PS3 froze so i powered down, waited and restarted it. Well the option to Report to PSN came up, i clicked no and waited for it to go back to XMB....but it didn't.

It went to some system check where it checked the HDD for anything wrong. It would check while the until the green status bar filled. I never noticed this before, i think it may be new. Unless I missed something in a previous update.
I give this update a perfect 10/10 because of this "back up Vita saves on the PS3"
Now I know for a fact I can buy a smaller 4-8GB memory card.
The previous update bricked Uncharted 3 for a lot of people. http://forums.naughtydog.com/t5/Technical-Issues/Uncharted-3-dics-doesn-t-read-properly/td-p/622523/page/14

Let's hope this one fixes it.
funny, i still cant get it to download via wifi...sometimes.... wifi is shit.
firmware updates are not a bad thing however the ps3 makes them far more annoying than they should be. I mean I have software updating on my pc about 3 times a day yet I dont really notice it because its not made to interfere with me using the computer.
We've come along way since the PS3 launched. Actually both Sony and MS have made some amazing strides since they've released their respective consoles. Probably one of the best things about this online-centric generation.
I know bashing on PS3 updates is some kind of fad for this community, but the news piece is not accurate. This update also includes a lot of options for the automatic updates feature available for PS+ users.

Nothing I will use, but certainly better than previous "some stability stuff" updates.
Its a goddamn ritual lol. I know I don't play my ps3 that often, but its not often enough to have to warrant me downloading a damn firmware update every damn time I boot it up.
May Akatosh and his star shine upon firmware update 4,00
Sony is now the ruler of their own dreams.
Nice Oblivion reference.
God, that game's looking old.
I read on the Sony blog that this new update has removed the PSP features from the PS3 (Sony removing features???? NEVER).

Users were unable to copy games they purchased from the PS3 to the PSP and remote play stopped working. Anyone updated yet who can confirm this? I keep my digital content on my PS3 for my PSP and I'll skip this update if it kills my functionality.
Sadly, the update does nothing to make the PS3 interface more feature filled, or PSN suck less. T_T
Saw this news on Engadget first. Then I remembered Jim always does a post. I giggled
I read the entire article in Patrick Stewart's voice...
Sadly, the update does nothing but bring out uninformed douche bags. This feature has probably been the most important one in, fuck there\'s been so many updates I don\'t remember how long. Haha
I almost forgot how ridiculous Oblivion's character models looked
In celebration of the fourth era, my wife and I shall commence love making tonight to the soothing sounds of the Jimquisition.
I send my best wishes to $ony gamers SOME kid in my school had his ps3 briked cause it took so long to download SO watch out peeps GOOD LUCK
I was thinking about going back to Oblivion for Shivering Isles, having forgot about the land being entirely populated by Mr. Potato-Heads. I think I'll stick with Skyrim for now.

Anyway, updates. They are a thing.
Sony. Please make babies with me!
Is it wrong when I saw my PS3 updating I immediately thought "cant wait for Jim's review of this!"?
Oh wow, awesome. I can't fucking wait for the Vita firmware series now.
Well, I'm grateful for this firmware, Batman and Uncharted were having these freezes that stopped once I installed this. So yay! This time.
Hehe, yeah when I saw 4.0 come up I'm like "Woah! Could it be... a redesigned UI without the cross menu bar? A modern Internet Browser? The return of Linux and mouse and keyboard input? PSN Plus for all?"

Then I saw the piddly changelog that only related to Vita connectivity and wondered why it took 10 minutes to download and install.
I'm so glad I have my PS3 offline these days. I just want to play video games sometimes!
Move aside prisoner, over there by the wall!
