In their never ending quest to make watching Talladega Nights as enjoyable as possible, Sony has once again upgraded the PlayStation 3 firmware. This new firmware, version 1.9, adds a slew of new features to Sony's already robust console:
• Ability to rearrange games on the XMB
• Option menu now includes “eject disk”
• Press triangle to eject games/CDs/movies in the XMB
• XMB backgrounds
• Change the folder classification
• Emoticons
• Change CD output to 44.1/88.2/176.4kHz
• Force 24Hz output for Blu-ray over HDMI
• Change PS3 video settings in-game
• “Bit Mapping” in the “Music Setting”
• Save AVCHD type animations from a Memory Stick
• Change settings like upscaling while playing PS and PS2 games
• Add bookmarks
• Web browser security function in the browser’s tool section
• Avatar moves during audio visual chat
While the firmware is already available in Japan, others will have to wait a bit longer before they can eject Talladega Nights from their console without moving off of their couch. Word has it North America and Europe will see this update later this week.
[Thanks to SuMizzle for the tip. Thanks to NeoGAF for the image. Thanks to ThreeSpeech for the list of features and for spelling "firmware" wrong in the title of their post.]

And, why does my PS3 puke when I access my plethora of MP3's?
Fix these issues Sony. I could care less about the background of the XMB.
4 Cereal.
The list of supported changes comes officially from NeoGAF, and not from any quoted source at Sony...
Depends what your idea of "floats" means. Honestly, nothing is groundbreaking here. Being able to set my background is nice, being able to change upscaling preferences while playing DVD movies/PS2 games/PSX games is nice, and re-organizing my games on the XMB could be helpful.
But really, there's nothing here that will drastically change my PS3 experience. It's just nice to have SOME changes.
prob because Sony takes its time to make sure shit is right and doesnt RROD the PS3? or could do like 360 & launch all shit n make the system fail? I mean if you compare systems which one is having issues.
its obvious PSN is headed a whole different way than XBL & wiichannel, its a milestone based project. Notice I didnt say better, but different, could be better or worse, only time will tell.
The PS3 needs wider codec support for movies and music. It needs better media center support (aka read my iTunes library). It needs better scaling support (that or I need a new TV).
Don't get me wrong though. I love my PS3. I'm looking forward to a lot of games and still enjoying the ones I have, but I still want a lot of things to happen. They made the PS3 out to be the end all consumer entertainment device. I just want it to actually do that.
Word on at least supporting Xvid encoded videos. The lack of it is keeping me from watching at least half of my AMV library on it.
