This could have easily been a mistake or a 'just in case' bit.
Either way, weird. If they do release ME, I'd hope they think to release ME1 first. But I don't see this going multiplatform, they would (and could) have easily done it several times by now.

I've never played the first Ass Erect and I don't own a 360 or a proper pc gaming rig. So, they would need to release the first one on the PS3 for me to care since I am incapable of playing games out of sequence.
This would be awesome, Mass Effect is one of the three games that makes me wish I had a 360. The other two being L4D and Fable.
I'd be fine if they did, and fine if they didn't. Mass Effect was an 'okay' game to me. The storyline was great, the battling was decent, but it just didn't really stand out in my mind.
Hey, if this means that PS3 owners can enjoy Mass Effect 2, which is probably the best game of this year, then that's a good thing.

I'm all for games coming out on all consoles, and the death of exclusivity; but why on earth would you want to play such a story-heavy game halfway through the franchise? Also, what on Earth is the deal with this timed exclusivity---I can't stand waiting to play a game. If it's out, I'm gonna play it, I don't wanna wait a year so I can play it on (insert preferred system here). Fuck.

You will never see the original Mass Effect on PS3. You ask why? Because Microsoft was the publisher and they will never let it happen. Mass Effect 2 is a different story since it's publishing rights are owned by EA and EA is a money whore. But I would give more credence to the rumors of Microsoft buying majority stake at EA than MS2 being published on PS3.
Not entirely rudderless, EA and Bioshock have always said there was no exclusivity contract with MS.
I'm still hoping though... Bringing ME 1& 2 to PS3 will mean the number of reasons for buying a 360 drop to 3!

Unreal Engine is multiplatform. Lots of these variables are created by the engine itself. It means shit.
Just beat the game(all 55+ hrs of it) and if PS3 peeps get to experience the awesomeness, why not? We got final fantahahaha sorry I couldn't complete that sentence with a straight face. Seriously though, it only does everything, including XBox exclusives.
Also, I remember when Sega did this with Condemned: Criminal Origins. One of the best launch titles of all time and an XBox 360 exclusive. When Condemned 2 came out, PS3 peeps didn't much care because they didn't get the awesomeness that is the original. Unless they played it on PC of course.

The thing about Mass Effect 2 PS3 is the fact that you're still missing out on the first game which as we all know has decisions that effect the second game. I accidentally deleted my ME1 save and deeply regret it.

Meh, by the looks of it this is the only game I'm going to buy for 360 this year. The last 6 months or so Microsoft has been lacking in good exclusive game releases (L4D2 and ME:2 are both on PC as well).
no matter ifmass effect 2 comes out on the PS3 they will never get the true experience of being in their own universe.. and they will never get to see some major characters that were in the first game they wont feel like they are part of the mass effect universe.. it will just be another RPG
Seriously, I don't see why it's not on PS3. It's hardly an exclusive with the PC version...but in all seriousness, I wouldn't recommend waiting on this game. Just pick it up on PC or 360, it is definitely worth it.
Meh, it's all good. The more the merrier if PS3 owners get to play it too. I would hope they port over the original as well though, otherwise they're missing out a bit.
@Tomasz Jaro -- Except that Bioware has said multiple times during interviews about the sequel that they wanted to make a game you could start up without any knowledge about the predecessor. Having played the original is just an added bonus with the transfered information on your saved file.
Whether or not they succeeded at that goal, they made it clear playing the original was not the only way to enjoy the sequel.

Here's my unlikely wish. Mass Effect 3 comes out on 360/PC. PS3 full version is announced (even if it's $120) and it has the entire series on one big disc.
Its just a Unreal Engine 3 fragment. Gears of War 1 and 2 use the Unreal Engine 3 as well, that doesn't mean its coming to the PS3.

You know, that how i justify not owning a xbox. Since microsoft owns it, a lot of th good exclusives go to pc, i have a descent graphics card. So i played mass effect 1, grand theft auto (sucked) and left 4dead. This doesn't happen for ps3 exclusives and it is my way of saying fuck u microsoft. The beautiful thing is, i didnt have to pay money to go online in left4dead(i also didnt have to buy it, thanks free steam weekend).

lhaymehr is correct. Unreal Engine automatically compiles and generates script by itself for certain functions, traces and uscript files.
I don't care either way really, I don't need it on my PS3 because I've got it on PC with shinier bells and whistles, but I wouldn't completely count out a PS3 version seeing as Bioshock made it's way over.

Well it was made with the unreal 3 engine, which works on the 360, pc, and the ps3. Maybe that's why those 2 lines of codes was in there.

In all reality if I could go back in time 3 years and not spend the $500 on my elite, I would. I barely use it anymore as owning multiple consoles it really hasn't had a strong lineup as of late.
All the good games are multi-plat, and I usually just grab them on PS3 or PC. As for exclusives, the PS3 and Wii have had a better selection as of late, unless your a halo fan, ODST was kind of disappointing, I've loved L4D2, but have it on PC, as it was dirt cheap on steam.
MS really needs to pick up the pace this year, and I'm hoping for a decent E3 to get me excited about owning a 360 again. Not another emabarassing "Ever wonder what it looks like to see the bottom of an avatar's shoe? Well here it is..... WA-BAM" Natal glitch fest.

it was probably coded on a PS3. they realized the game wasn't quite good enough, so they dumbed it down and ported it to the xbox as shovel-ware. how many disks is it on?

The more people who can play Mass Effect the better. I'd kill for a great exclusive PS3 RPG like Demon Souls to move to the Xbox. Exclusivity will be all first party before we know it.
