Patience is a virtue and if you're a PlayStation 3 owner, you better have a ton of it. The good thing is Sony has seen an issue (such as PS2 games looking poopy on the PS3) and addressed and fixed it via their latest system update. From GameLife:

PlayStation 3 owners can (must) now download system update 1.5, which -- get ready -- actually fixes an actual problem that people actually complained about. It's a little ridiculous that it took this long for Sony to fix the backwards compatibility issue that made some really fun games look like crap (left) versus good (right), but fix it they did.

Guns n Roses, you are so so right. Sony, you were so wrong.

[Thanks, Ted]

When are they going to release the patch/rebate to fix the way-too-high $600 sticker price?

Actually, we reported on the ongoing issue early in December, and the fix was only released today.

PS3 hasn't even been out for three months, let alone a firmware fix for the backwards compatability issue, which they didn't bother to have ready beforehand.

I wonder if it took so long to pump out the patch because they were actually testing to see if it broke stuff.

Patching things is a damned if you do and damned if you son't thing.

If there is a problem and a patch is released quickly people cheer about how quick it came out. But if there is a problem you get slammed for it.The MS way.

If there is a problem and the patch is developed then properly tested to make sure that it doesn't break things in some odd unexpected way, people complain that it took to long. The Sony way??

I'd imagine testing between for the 3 main OS strains, EU,NA, Asia, system variants and games it would take at least a month to just test this stuff.

The moral of the story don't sell incolplete crap to your customers. Holy crap does next get HAVE to mean not yet finished?

Good. Atleast now i can "somewhat" justify updating to the ps3 when/if my old ps2 breaks. Still not seeing a solid reason to get a ps3 though.

Yes, Kalakaua. The second link in Summa's post links to Destructoid's previous report, including a side-by-side video illustrating the problem.

Finally some good news for PS3 owners, though. After everything they've been through, they deserve it.

Great, they're halfway there.

Sony's todo list:

Fix 1080i
Stop lying about shit that will absolutely not be true, ever
Reduce cost of PS3 to below Ghana's GNP (look it up, it's pretty dead on...)
Make games for PS3
Put more crabs in games
Make Guitar Hero work
Apologize personally/offer blowjobs to every Sony fanboy for the public beating they're taking because we fucked up bad.
Send Summa his monthly "Bash the Wii" check.

Groovy. That was one of the main things stopping me from getting one as I play LOTS of PS2 games. Adapter for plastic guitar would be nice...

Wow. For a while, I was thinking this couldn't be fixed in firmware. I guess the PS3 does share the same display chip between both frame buffers.

A third party is releasing a controller adapter in February supposedly... see here http://www.gamestop.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=802566 for more details. I know I personally will get it for sure.

Thanks for the link, Kagari. Looks like it's the same as the PS2 USB adapter... I have a nice two-player one for my PC. I wonder if the drivers would work on PS3?

Radioshack has USB adapters for PS2 controllers. Maybe those'll work and they're available now, just not on their website cause its out of stock. Here's the link though, http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2348187
