I know you've always dreamed of using your PS3 or PSP to be able to zoom into super high-resolution images to see the finest detail. Oh, wait...you haven't? Well, what if this image enlargement tech was being used to link documents together, or to hide advertisements in images? Marginally interested? I'm with you, but the technical demonstration videos showing off this technology are pretty interesting.
As shown in the video below, a PS3 (and later a PSP) are used to zoom into images to reveal small, hidden details. By enlarging images, you'll be able to see content that wasn't visible before. Think of it as a data tree, or hyperlinks; zoom in enough, and you'll see something else. Seeing how images and even videos appear from a little speck on a calendar is pretty neat, though it seems like just slightly less work than clicking a hyperlink.
Also displayed is the potential for hidden advertisements. For example, in one image of a wedding, zooming into the depicted photographer's camera shows an ad inside his lens.
Sony will soon pass this technology off to game developers, though I can't imagine what they'd use it for. Porn would be more interesting.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
God damnit though, this can only mean that those damn teaser sites will get more annoying by using this tech... :(
all jokes aside, I'd like it if they actually invested some time into making their web browsers not suck so bad.

Maybe next they'll add a calendar so I can schedule oil changes and dentist appointments.
