PS3 allegedly can't handle Modern Warfare 2 (update) photo

PS3 users may have been experiencing some bad luck when trying to get Modern Warfare 2 to work on their Black Box o' Blu-ray. A new update was issued for MW2 PS3 that fixed a problem with Trophies, but what followed as an even worse problem -- PS3 users found the multiplayer portion completely unplayable. Ouch.

Server overload is being blamed for the problems PS3 users are facing, and it's being claimed that the new issue has nothing to do with the recent update. Allegedly, the PSN's third-party server infrastructure can't handle the traffic, while Xbox Live can. Wherever the blame lies, Infinity Ward is on the case and have pledged to resolve the issue before the weekend. IW's Bowling has told players to look out for a "party invite update by Friday."

Hopefully it fixes everything. Nobody should be missing out on this game.

[Update: Robert Bowling has stated that the game is now running "at full capacity" on the PS3 and that there should be "clear skies ahead." Good stuff!]

Shouldn't that be PSN allegedy can't handle modern warfare 2 online?

OUCH. Well, at least the single player is (allegedly, I can't really say cause I haven't played it yet) so good so PS3 owners will have something to buy time with. But man, this happens way too often. =(

'Nobody should be missing out on this game.'

Yeah... Unfortunately I don't have the game nor do I have a gaming console or reliable PC to play it on.

I hate college... So damn expensive.

Happened with the 360 with modern warfare 1, so I guess its only fair.

Personally I think the multiplayer trouble is all a ploy by some embittered devs who worked exclusively on the single player campaign.

Damn, and it's completely lag free on 360! Guess that $4 a month is good for something after all!

Too soon?

Hating it! Really hating it!

Still, can't say no Xbox360 has never had issues.

IW's Robert Bowling is blaming Demonware the 3rd party server manager. He also says the "servers are gradually coming back online"

http://twitter.com/fourzerotwo

Demonware..... owned by Activision.

I fucking hate Activision.

Also, @ funzo - Jim loves to bash the PS3 through wordplay, I believe he gets paid by the comment/hit - starting flame wars is his most lucrative business.

poor effort

they charge so much fucking money for it and dont even support it properly!? if they press 500 copies of the game then the servers should be able to support 500 players.. if they press 100,000 copies of the game then they had better be sure that the servers can support 100,000 players. its got a piss poor campaign considering how much fucking money they want for it. it relies on multiplayer and they dont deliver their end of the bargain.. it shouldn't matter if you are an xbox player or a 360 player, activision take the piss constantly and get away with it! fucking wake up

First of all, nice flame bait. Second of all the servers are coming back up as we speak.

Third, I love how IW is blaming "3rd parties" but Activision owns Demonware, who is being paid by Sony to run the servers for this game.

So who's fault is it really?

Well, I would see this as a reason for Sony fanboys to stop complaining about paying for online. While I do enjoy my free PSN stuff, I think XBL is still better overall. Still hoping he gets it up though since one of my teachers in school seemed pretty excited and now he can't play if this keeps on. And him being angry leads to kids being put in head locks.

I would rather not be able to play the online component of one game for one day out of the year then have to pay $50. Honestly.

I'm glad Sterling is smart enough to make "What I've Done", but isn't smart enough to do a little research.

Has nothing to do with PSN servers. Demonware was hired to control MW2's servers, and Demonware is owned by Activision. Who else is owned by Activision, you say? INFINITY WARD.

@munkee and how do they test server load of over 100,000 players? Hire 100,000 beta testers?

Goes to show they should have had a multiplayer demo like last time.

@rammknot

It's not a problem on PC so far because the PC version, last I heard (three hours ago) still wasn't working... aww snap, son.

Seriously though, it just shows the ridiculous nature of Activisions support for PS3. I wish I cared but really, have you NOT been paying attention the last three years?

@ SantanaClaus89

My thoughts exactly. I'd like to avoid periodic fees altogether, but since that's impossible, I'll just stick to avoiding them where I can.

Xbox Live & PSN all come down to preference. If you like paying money for a 'better' experience, then more power to ya. For me, I like how far my zero dollars can go with PSN. It's not like Xbox Live is completely devoid of hiccups.

I've always liked XBL for that reason alone. First party servers are always better, that's why you're paying for them.

Common sense, or so I thought.

MW2 is published by Activision. So this post is a bit misleading.

sounds like more of a problem with IW servers than psn, actually it is a problem with IW servers than psn, so I'm kinda wondering if a few people above ( who shall remain nameless ) actually bothered reading the article.

but this is activision so I'm just not shocked.
