Look, if all you have is a PlayStation 2 and you want to play Rock Band, by all means ... go for it. I mean, there's nothing wrong with it, really. Sure, it's "gimped" when compared to other versions already on the market -- there's no downloadable content and no character creator, and the multiplayer career mode is somewhat of a joke.

But hey, the core game is still good -- buy it! Harmonix and MTV Games really, really want you -- or anyone -- to buy it. So much so that they've dropped the price of the the Rock Band Special Edition bundle to $99.99. Really, that's a great deal for the game, a guitar controller, drum kit, and a microphone. Note to PlayStation 3 owners: These instruments will also work with the PS3 version of the game.

This special pricing will be available at participating retailers, of which I can confirm GameStop/EBGames and Wal-Mart only. Has anyone else seen this deal being honored anywhere else?

[Update: It's been brought to my attention that GameStop/EBGames didn't get the memo ... or they're hoping consumers didn't. The retailer is currently selling the bundle for $109.99. My advice? Don't shop at GameStop if you're looking to buy Rock Band for the PS2.]

[Update 2: Attention, cheapskates: If you're looking to save a whopping five dollars, you might want to check out Sam's Club, who dropped the price of this bundle to $94.56 last week. While you're there, pick up a fourteen-pound bag of Skittles for me.]

Holy cow! Does this mean I can import the game and all the instruments will work on my PS3? Is the guitar wireless by any chance?

Instruments do work on ps3, so this is a steal if you need a second guitar and wouldn't mind a new drum kit :P

just needs ps3 game to work with ps3; importers take note

I was going to order this last night, but wasn't sure if I ought to. If it's a limited thing, I'm totally going to.

Well, I would, but it seems like there's a sudden interest in the fucking thing, leading the Amazon page to load slowly, then turn out an error. Yay!

I ended up picking it up from Best Buy's website. I was on the fence about it until I found out it was a limited time deal. And being that the Wii version is pretty-much the exact same game feature-wise, I didn't see any reason to hold out for that one, where the matter of a 60 dollar price difference is concerned.
