PS2 Sega shooter Gungrave is becoming a live action movie photo

This is not something I expected to see today. A name I've not heard in years, Gungrave, has apparently been licensed to Convergence Entertainment in order to make a live action movie. Originally a PS2 game released in 2002, Gungrave took the form of a third-person shooter from the chaps at Sega.

Gungrave existed as an anime series as well, running from 2002 to 2004. Things have been quiet in Gungrave country for the past five years, however, making for quite an odd bit of news indeed. Convergence is predicting that the Gungrave movie will cost between $30 million and $35 million to make, although word on a possible launch is missing.

For reference, these guys are also behind the upcoming King of Fighters movie. I guess we'll have to wait and see that one for an indication of Gungrave's quality.

Seriously though, Gungrave?

I guess Gungrave and Gungrave OD are going to go up in price now... They seemed semi-interesting, mostly in aesthetic style and not so much gameplay. Maybe I should snag them while they're dirt cheap just to appeal to my OCD collector.

A live action movie is going to be ridiculous, though... and not the good kind of ridiculous.

I'm not going to be holding my breath for this one. Now if this was Trigun or Cowboy Bebop related news...

Gungrave was a pretty decent anime series. The games... not so much. And a live action movie? Ouch.

I didn't know this was a PS2 game, I just heard of the anime. Still cool, but I second the thought of Trigun or Cowboy Bebop though. ^_^

speaking of live action gaming movies...

District 9 exists because Halo da movie doesnt.

Good thing their industry is getting hammered harder than the video game one.

It's sort of like the Lost Planet movie. You can't really ruin a game movie if the game doesn't really have any fans to begin with.

Is it just me or would you rather an amazing sequel than a half-assed movie?

Oh come on, I can't be the only one here who thoroughly enjoyed Gungrave and Gungrave OD as games.

Yes, they're short, but they're still very fun. and it's not like they cost very much, even at launch price.

Well I'm kinda excited for it since it's a series I've really enjoyed... I'd rather they make another game.

The games are shit, but the anime series was pretty boss, except for the latter half.

Will Yasuhiro Nightow have any part in this? Or did they just acquire the IP so they could shit all over like usual?

The movie will probably be average at best (all action, cheese), but the anime (disregarding the mutants/corpse revival stuff) is one of best organized-crime themed series I've ever seen.

The anime series was great. One of my personal favorites actually. And Gungrave is one of those rare games that could actually translate onto the big screen pretty well if done correctly. If nothing else, it should ATLEAST be a relatively decent action flick

@ Tirkaro

I loved OD. Haven't played the original though since I'm still searching for a used copy locally.

It would be cool if the movie was as bad ass as the series.

For God's sake, cancel this project, I've never played the game, but I loved the anime

Decent first game, slightly boring second game, cool anime series.

Live action movie seems pointless.

The Gungrave anime had a very compelling story. That could be because it was a retelling of Macbeth. In high school, I actually did an English presentation that outlined the parallel stories of Gungrave and Macbeth. Solid B+.

Don't know if want...

The two Gungrave games are two of my niche favorites. I bought both for 15 all together one summer, and due to my favoritism of random little games, I loved it.

It's also Cowboy Bebop related. So...that makes it auto-awesome.

Live Action doesn't really work out for some reason, unless the cartoon in question is sort of realistic.

Was an AWESOME anime, I'd probably watch it because I wanna see what the storyline might be. Still need to play the games.
