This is a bit more like it. The PS Vita might be dragging its feet in Japan, but its Western launch has definitely helped matters, adding another 600,000 sales to the overall figure for a grand worldwide total of 1.2 million. You know it's a good figure, because Sony didn't say "shipped" like it usually does!
As of February 19, Japan's total Vita sales reached 578,812. With Sony claiming this week that worldwide sales topped 1.2 million, that gives us our 600,000 estimate for the Western territories, including Canada, North America, Europe and Australia.
"We couldn't be more thrilled with the reaction we're seeing from consumers and the pace at which PS Vita is selling," said SCE president Andrew House. "The market has responded and there is clear demand for a mobile device capable of providing a revolutionary combination of rich gaming and social connectivity within a real-world context."
Hopefully the Vita keeps this momentum going. The better it sells, the more inventive publishers have to keep pumping it full of games. I'm taking any excuse to keep my Vita switched on, so the more support it gets, the better.
