Ha! Let's see how it goes in the long run. After all Sony is the same company that said there wasn't any demand for PSP to Vita transfers outside Japan.

Got to play one overnight. I'm impressed with the amount of visuals a small machine can produce. After playing Uncharted 3 and little deviants, I can say that I want one, but not bad enough that I wont wait for a better model down the line, and a bigger library.
I wonder if they continue that mementum, considering people are now more likely to see them in the wild now, or if they enter steep decline like they did in Japan. It will be very interesting to watch, as someone who is interested, but holding out for a price cut/bundle I can't refuse.
Strong start. Lets hope this momentum keeps going. (We all know when this thing gets cowadoody it will be impossible to keep on shelves, so vita will do fine.)

No doubt Sony will support the Vita (like the PSP) for a helluva long time, I just hope that other companies do the same. Too much damn potential to let go squandered.

I like the system but I don't think it will have the killer games. Face it killzone and resistance aren't that good. Neither is littlebigplanet. Hopefully they also don't just do a bunch of ports on it. I guess time will tell though.

I don't travel enough to warrant having one. Any time I'm not home I'm not somewhere I can really pull out a Vita and start playing. If I end up in a job with more Business trips, I'll get it for games like Uncharted and MLB 12 The Show (especially since I can save to the cloud and resume play).
So for me, my iPhone makes more sense at the moment and anything else I can play on my Macbook Pro with windows booted. If I start traveling more for business or whatever, or if I was still in school I'd probably be on this.

Not to be a downer or doomsayer, but I see sales tapering off in the weeks to come, similar to Japan.

VITA nearly sold out at launch in Japan too... While this is GREAT news that it's selling, we'll see if it's just early adopters and whether the numbers dwindle like they did in Japan.

I also kind of predict sales diminishing, and I also can't think of a big seller down the line for Vita in the west. In Japan, Monster Hunter will make the thing sell out, pokemon will eventually have the 3DS sales explode, but what about for the Vita in the US? I'm sure it won't sell terribly, but do you think it's just going to try and become the portable home for FPSes to appeal to the US?
I'll wait until a price drop ala the 3DS. I would buy it now if they enabled remote play on all PS3 games. Sadly that isn't the case. Why add remote play if you're Just going to abandon the feature completely? Hardware hackers already proved that every game could support it out of the box, the developers just don't want to.

Well lets just put this into perspective here. The 3DS sold 839,000 units in Europe and the America's in its first week of sales, and over 1.2 million units, when you add the Japanese first week of sales. So that was considered a failure of a launch, but Vita selling way less than that, is being considered a success? OK that makes sense, doesn't it? I love Sony fans logic!
There's been talk of a Call of Duty game being released on the platform and, after playing Uncharted and the Unit 13 demo, I've now gotten curious as to how it's going to play. The VITA definitely lends itself to some great FPS/TPS play and I'm curious to see how the third party devs will leverage its features.

WRONG! It sold 600k split between, US, EU, Australia, and the rest of Asia that is not Japan. That is not "The West." 3DS still out paced it by about 500k units in the same time frame. If the 3DS was "doomed" by what game journalist said then PSV is DOA. Video game journalism is a joke.

I will get one as soon as I can save up the money. Gonna be a while, but from what I have seen so far it will be totally worth it.

600,000 across 3 continents? I suppose they're not horrible numbers, but it'll certainly be interesting to see how the Vita performs in the upcoming weeks.

that 1.2 mln is shipped with roughly 500k consoles shipped on launch week and not counting special bundles that were sold week earlier in US which sold nearly 80k. i would call it pretty disappointing numbers - it certainly is the worst selling handheld from mayor company in the past 3 generations.

I'll wait on this. Way down the line when it's cheaper and has more games that appeal to me than Uncharted and Little Big Planet. The only thing that interests me is the new Little King's Story game, I guess. (even if it does sport the inferior visual style).

My wife bought me a 3G version launch day. I just recently took advantage of the "buy 2 get 1 free" from bestbuy (cuz freeshippanlolz), so, I'll be in deep with lumines, rayman origins and shinobido 2 in a few weeks... until then, I have tekken 3D coming in a few more days, so im all good. I really enjoy the vita, so much that I've even started going back and playing my psp's a bit more. I forgot I had SSX on Tour. Now I need to get THUG2 Remix again. wat wat.
I got a strange calling that I was needed here again. The Vita is the best system EVER!!!! 600,000 in less than a week is amazing!! I love mine, the launch lineup alone is better than every 360 exclusive ever made combined. Hell, Uncharted: Golden Abyss is better than every 360 exclusive combined. 360 is poop!

I want one. I will give it a year. So far, my kindle fire is only electronic device that goes in my purse. I just went too crazy during last year's steam sale. I have to get through last year's backlog before I even look at new games or systems.
I do hope that the vita becomes the mobile FPS and Third Person Shooter destination. That will clinch it for me. The 3DS is going to have to bring on the jrpgs in order for me to care.

That's the numbers from launch week.....and given that 600,000 is from the 2 largest territories of Europe and the US....seeing a # of 300,000 per territory is not that impressive considering that its lower than Japan's launch.
The sales in the next couple weeks/months will be more indicative.
