Insane on the memory cards as you would have thought that they would have shipped a bit more of the larger sized cards.
Why buy 2-3 cards when you can get a big ass one? That is why I won't be buying a card out of the gates a I want the 32 but not at $120.

Some people really like to waste money... Seriously just wait a little while for the Chinese to make a MicroSD adapter like they did for the Pro Duo cards.
The only way I'm ever buying a Vita is if someone makes an adapter for those fucking memory cards. GET ON IT, CHINA!
I'm going to wait and buy one of the memory cards used. If I am going to pay that much money for something that should have been MUCH cheaper, I sure as hell aren't going to give that money to the commpany trying to rip me off. I will buy it used on Ebay and give the money to someone who will need it.

You may be waiting forever if the reason Sony made these and made them mandatory was to fight piracy, as any knockoff would defeat the purpose and not be allowed by Sony.

@Ronin4life: Don't know if sony has a choice. If their memory is patented, then maybe yeah, otherwise, I don't think they can stop knock-offs. But then again, I'm not exactly an expert at the hardware business.
Take it with a grain of salt but Wikipedia says it sold 728,000 on its first day.

the only reason adapters and knock-offs were created for PSP was because Sandisk created the memory cards for PSP with sony and then gave the technology for every other company - just like any normal company would do. Vita's cards are made just by sony - they will never sell their technology.

Its a Sony propriety owned memory, so counterfeit memory cards will be a non-issue (and thats assume the format gets adopted enough to be worth counterfeiting.)
Frankly, the fact people are buying the largest memory cards is not a surprise. If anything the fact that people have trouble with the Xbox 360's original 20 GB and PS3's 40 GB hard drives just goes to show that digital distribution/DLC/firmware updates/save data really, really adds up over time.

Ugh, those fucking memory cards just turn me off the vita, such a sony thing to do, make an awesome product, saddle it with mandatory and proprietary shit. Plus, why was japan special with the christmas only launch? and we get it in feb when I'm broke?

The vita turned from a day one purchase to a couple months down the line. With the massive confusion of stories surrounding the Vita, I am just going to wait until I get the entire accurate picture of what the device can and cannot do. Plus building a new computer did not help the old wallet haha.
Not selling out isn't a big deal it might just mean Sony was good at producing enough Vitas. That the memory cards sold well isn't suprising because if someone decided to buy one at launch they were well aware of the high prices and didn't care. It is required for some games to save so it would be like buying a PS1, PS2, or PSP at launch without a memory card.
This isn't anything bad though, honestly. I can only speak for the US but the PSP didn't sell out when it first shipped either, actually I had a friend who was expecting a line for them and ended up being able to walk right into the store and ask for one -said the
As for what Mix said, I detailed it in the comments of one of the articles for the Mem cards that buying a bunch of Smaller cards will be a much more expensive waste of money then buying the 32 or 16. The 16gb itself being the best deal (at least by the US prices) because you're only spending an extra $20 if you buy two as apposed to -If i remember- over $50 you'll spend buying multiple 8gb cards. I'm too lazy to find my comment, its been weeks since then.
Personally, I'll be getting as big a card as I can afford at the time. The thing that worries me most is the size of downloaded games and the size of save files (more so the former then the latter). I mean, I have an 8gb SD card that I bought for my 3DS and I've got over 20games plus saves and additional data saved on it because of all the ambassador stuff we've gotten and its no where near full, but when you're talking BIG files like I think the Vita is going to have (they won't be the small size of NES or GBA games, I can guarantee it) I don't think a 4 or an 8 is really going to be enough if you like to keep your games instead of clearing room.

uck.. idk what happened to the end of my first paragraph.. what I said there is he said that he went at 3 in the afternoon and they still had a wall of PSP's there. So.. I'm not expecting it to go EXACTLY like that this time, theres more buzz about the Vita then I remember being about the PSP, but yeah.. I don't think theres going to be a sell out either.
I take it some of you don't follow the news? Since when did patents and proprietary hardware mean anything to China? Counterfeit goods is the name of the game in China. This is the country that brings us the countless numbers of humorous fake gaming machines and apple products. If there is money to be made from it, it will only be a matter of time before you see adapters for this new memory format.

I dont understand the rage about the memory cards. Personally I just consider them part of the price for the vita, that way I dont rage. I'm not buying a handheld for x amount, and a card for z amount, im buying the expeeeerience. For xz amount. I dont care if they made me buy the entire device in pieces and assemble it myself, I'd still get on that shit like cheese on toast
