Prototype to be first Neural THX 7.1 game for more surroundiness photo

With a name like Prototype, it's somewhat fitting that this interesting game will be a title of firsts. The free-roaming science fiction adventure will be the first ever videogame to use THX's brand new 7.1 surround sound technology.

Neural-THX Surround uses three speakers in front of you, two either side, and two behind. It also sounds flashy and impressive. If you weren't antagonizing your neighbours by blasting your games out through a 5.1 speaker system, soon you can really up your chances of eviction.

This news makes me happy not because I could ever afford another speaker system, but because it reminded me that Prototype exists. I'd forgotten about that one, and it looks like it could be really fun. Hurray for 7.1 surround sound!

Why does anyone need any more than 6.3 channels?

I can't wait for True Testes Ball.1 surround sound. Is that one of the abilities in Prototype? Growing a sticky trap out of the balls?

My downstairs neighbours hate me as it is. Fuck them and their dog that makes the hall smell like piss. I should just kick the shit out of them and be done with it. Their rotti wil probably take a giant chunk out of my ass one of these days.

As far as I know, Warhawk also supports LPCM 7.1 sound.

I mean I concede that 5.1 is fantastic and everything, but there's gotta be limits. Does it really matter this much that you have to know exactly what degree latitude that fly is from you?

I wont be happy until I have a 22.2 surround sound speaker system (which is actually being made)

Maybe I'm just getting flustered that all of these advances are coming so quickly one after another. Nothing good (besides the obvious) can come from having these upgrades come so soon.

Prototype looks to be an awesome game, if it does things right it could be a fantastic iterative improvement on the game mechanics brought about by Assassin's Creed. Plus there will be a shit-ton of mayhem.

that is going to be a ps3 ONLY feature, 360 doesn't support 7.1
and never will. because it can't.
the hdmi is not pegged for it(requires hdmi 1.3, 360 only has the base hdmi, ps3 has 1.3, and the 360's audio processor doesn't accept it.
it does 5.1 fine. but it DOES NOT DO 7.1. PERIOD.

oh well, I only have 5.1 setup, YAY!

cjpkiller: I don't use hdmi for sound, I use the digital optical cable to connect to my amfi on my PS3, maybe Xbox has one of those too? I don't know.

My parents got me some PC type 5.1 speakers for Christmas. Which was great of them. I am personally looking to hook them up to my consoles, though in order to activate the true Dolby Digital effect that is standard amongst PS3 and 360, I have to use the digital optical/coaxial cable to do it. That's what I hear anyway.

I was looking all about for receivers and the like capable of doing this for the speaker type that I have. Not a damned thing. I ended up finding out about a Creative Labs made product called DDTS-100 which is exactly what i'm looking for. A shame I can't really find the same type of product in any stores and apparently the item has been discontinued for reasons unknown *especially since reviews for it seemed to be absolutely great*...

This makes me sad... I am trying to not whimper and I stand tall with an occasionally shaky lip. But I sometimes weep on the inside. Though, at least it has greatly improved the standard quality of games and movies from my lil media center! For that, I am thankful.

While i'm at it, if anyone has any recommendations on what to do in this situation, that'd be just wonderful.

uhm, i thought 7.1 is one speaker for center, your standard left and right channels, and then four rear channels, and the sub. well, thats whats sitting in my living room anyway.
also, Neural-THX Surround is more an additional encoder that increases the seperate elements of a surround track so individual details come out more clearly so that you get better seperation. which sounds fun, never actually tried anything with it yet. cant exactly afford one of the receiver with that convertor built in at the moment.
oh well, maybe this is all covered in the original article...

Just thinking aloud here and more logically but ah... Wouldn't you want another sub down there? So... You know.. Perhaps 7.2? For personal character impacting testicular vibration so you can get really into the action? Also fun for the whole future family in the making.

7.1

Sub

front left.............center..........front right

Side left..............................side right

Rear left..............................rear right

There you have, I have a 7.1 receiver and that's how she goes! Still, I need to buy 2 more speakers as I couldn't find a decent (cheap) set on boxing day, so I went with the 5.1 from Polk.
