I’m sorry I soiled you. This afternoon Activision released video of Prototype’s introductory cinematic. I lost control of my bowels within the first few seconds. That protagonist -- Alex Mercer -- is one hard dude, completely hell bent on destroying everything in his path. Before I saw this video, I thought Prototype was Spider-man on steroids (not a horrendous thing, mind you) but now I’m starting to see real potential, particularly in the game’s tone and narrative.
By the way, if I had anymore poop to give, the part where Mercer splits the soldier into pieces would have totally made the situation worse.
But I digress. Once again: I’m sorry, pants -- I’ll never let this happen again. I’ll start listening to trailers instead of watching them after the page jumps on Destructoid.
Lookin' good but it's probably going to turn out like Assassin's Creed if it was exposed to copious amounts of radiation, which isn't a very good thing.
I should have known better. We were supposed to have something... different, than what Brad and the others had. We were wrong. I don't know if I'll ever be able to wear you again after what I've done to you, and I'll understand completely if that's the way you want it. After what happened to the others, I knew the risks, what it might do to you, and I did it anyway. I'm sorry.
I like how they play up Alex to seem as if he's the antagonist to the whole story. In that trailer specifically, they fleshed out the soldiers and gave them "personality" as opposed to faceless guns. It really created a vibe that Alex was slaughtering real people with real lives. It gives that violence that extra sadistic edge.
If they can keep the tone of the trailer throughout the gameplay, I will be one very happy gamer.
So I should be excited about this, right? This year has been such a change of pace with game releases. Almost feels wrong to be excited for new games this time of year.
@ Drewcifer:
No, you and Gatsby are the only ones that are ignorant to who is making the game.
Radical Entertainment know what they're doing with releasing an open world sandbox game with a super powered being (Hulk: Ultimate Destruction). After playing Hulk and loving how spot on they nailed it, I don't doubt their abilities.
Oh look, just a normal guy who can run fast and jump high and suddenly I HAVE FREDDY KRUEGER ARMS AND MY HAND IS SOUL EDGE. The trailer does a fantastic job of making the game look great and the narrating is nice as well. In fact, the trailer reminds me a lot of the X-Men Origins: Wolverine game's opening, but then the gameplay after that wasn't exceptional but rather a little above average.
This is probably my somewhat high standards talking, but I'm hoping that the gameplay in Prototype doesn't become as repetive as X-Men Origins was.
Wait, so did this opening cinema convince Brad that the game isn't just a spiderman mod? Did i miss something? Or are we basing our expectations of a game on their opening cinemas rather than gameplay itself.
Take it from someone whos played the game. If only the game was as good as the trailer... its spiderman environment with X-men origins wolverine gameplay.
I never really got all that psyched about the game but that was amazing. The video compression probably helped the cause but a lot of it look real. Plus it was just damn cool. Forget the game I want a prototype movie.
I have received you response to my last letter, and found it vastly wanting in class and decorum. Despite the grave nature of my offense, it hardly warrants your aggressive terming of my person as a "cockmongling son of a retarded horse with epilepsy that eats its own shit, vomits, and then eats that too, and feeds the remainder to orphans with terminal illnesses."
Really now, I have never once eaten my own vomit, if one does not count those few times where some small amount of bile has made its way up my esophagus and been forced back down by the continual muscular contractions of the digestive system. I needs must remind you that this I am hardly the only person to have experienced such an unpleasant occurrence.
Henceforth, consider our correspondence at an end. I no longer have any wish to engage in dialogue with such a crass pair of slacks.
Jesus, my bro pointed out that a new Prototype trailer was up and I told him I wasn't interested because I have just seen way too much of this game for the past two years of its dev cycle, I'm sick of it.
A little 4:00 am "end of the internet, desperate for anything interesting" surfing later and my Hype-O-Meter just got jacked. I really love the Decoy Octopus angle of impersonating NPCs. I hope it comes up to a bit more than some Assassins Creed esq errand mission like eavesdropping that you have to suffer through from time to time. I would like to see it be a viable gameplay element.
Who's impressed by this in 2009? Apparently you don't play too many games. It looks ok. He doesn't say or do anything out of the box, that really surprises you for a gaming cinematic. Typical opening.
Man that hooded guy was a total dick (not saving the girl?). And whats up with his clothes, yuck. Rather play as one of those generic (but nicely dressed) soldiers shooting zombies, mmmmm shooting zombies.
By the way, that cinematic opening was not really that impressive. I missed some "big" and "over the top" effects. All I got was some hooded dude with knife's instead of hands (Edward Scissorhands is that you?) killing a small group of people. If a squint my eyes it could have been some ingame sh*t. Cinematic should contain nuclear at least.
This trailer hasn't sold me on the game yet unlike other people I see in the comments. It's a great concept and zombies do make anything better, but what has been shown story wise seems a bit cliche, especially in the realm of movies. I'm just probably being picky. Every video I've seen of Prototype I've always found something to nitpick about.
It's not the game play that I'm worried about. It looks like it will play fine. But the story and this opening cinematic... just looks horribly melodramatic. And how many times have you seen something just like this?
Cliches are bad. Maybe if the narrative wasn't written by 15 year old boys, it wouldn't be so bad.
Did people not like Crackdown or something? Game's don't need to be perfect, they need to be fun, and after playing the demo, that's what I'd equate it to. It's fun. Play fun games. Enjoy yourselves.

O.O
That was very impressive. I was already a bit excited for this but that, that shows some real promise.

Love always,

Don't you mean PROtagonist?

...I never really needed you anyway.
Good Riddance,
This Guy
That game is going to be glorious...

Looks good, and is going to come with some love for the PC!!!
It should have never happened in the first place.

@Gitrooman: You suck, and I don't beleive you.
I bath in your hate...its refreshing
Now I want it... really bad.

ps the hooded guy needs to loose weight.
It surprised me a lot how much crap this person could do.
Well done trailer, cool looking story.
