The above video is the latest developer diary for upcoming free-roaming genetic freak-em-up Prototype. Cutting through all the smugness -- and use of the buzzword "dynamic" three times -- you can see some pretty promising work coming out of the team who gave us The Incredible Hulk.
Prototype is aiming for a realistic, densely populated New York City. The last game to try a real world city with such accuracy was The Getaway, and that sucked. The Getaway, however, lacked a superhuman killing machine in a parka, which is a pretty big bonus.
Despite what the developers say, and how much they promise, I am remaining grounded about Prototype. I am increasingly excited for it, as it looks like a deeper, more brutal Crackdown, but I am not expecting some great gaming revolution.
I'm expecting a lot of fun though, so please, make sure I have plenty of that, and then we can discuss your dynamic pedestrians. I am looking forward to good things.

Meet the rest of the team
I remember the night i stole a copy of The Getaway from my local Xtra-Vision, as soon as i got home and put it in the playstation it felt as if i'd been robbed.
The artists at the beginning and the guy at the very end are the worst. I know you're passionate about your game guys, but come back to reality.
The game does look extremely awesome though. Especially those last two clips of the dude running through the street and the way he kicks off that car that's already flipping through the air. Cool stuff.
ugh aargh ughhhh! what was that first thing about crazy and innovation? i feel dirty listening to that. like i'm covered in smug, it won't come off. eeeeeeeeeeee!
Assuming you're talking about the graphics, that was all pre-alpha stuff ie super early. The footage they showed on X-Play about a month ago looked a WHOLE lot better than that and was still pretty early as well.
I think Maurice needs to come down out of the clouds. Guy's a fuckin' DOUCHEBAG!!! No matter how cool the game looks, you're not the Michealangelo of gaming, or even the cliffy B. or Molyneaux of gaming, so relax and let the work speak for itself.
Enough with the mood lighting... I can't possibly believe those are candid clips taken in those guys standard workspaces, because otherwise everyone would've already lost their eyesight.
I'm definitely interested in the game. The Hulk game was pretty decent and an updated version that has more room to play with the character could be really good.
I can see where the devs are coming from. Anyone making a game posts a video online, where it's torn to shreds by people who haven't even played it and never will. It sucks, but what do you expect people to say:
"Hey buy our game! Actually don't, it kinda sucks. But then again, you all know that having watched 5 minutes of test footage"
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I feel a tingling sensation abdomen :]
LO should have reminded you that a good game is better than a game which is a revolution.
FAEL.

God, I thought I was just dreaming.
:D
Btw, who was that jackass at the end? "What I promise, I FRICKEN DELIVER!".
Fixed.
Cause he frickin' delivers.
Maurice "Skip" Kimball, the Art Director, makes me NOT want to play this game.
It's already been fixed.
Still, this kind of confidence definately makes me interested in seeing what they have to show us. I already like what I see in Prototype.
i'm crazy LOL!!!!!

The game DOES look pretty sweet though.
LOLZEEEZ!
Prototype = looking awesome
Prototype's devs = ridiculous
its kind of alarming that they cant even believe what they created...hmmm
