Unless you want to have your day ruined, I suggest you bypass clicking on the above video. Dancing with the Stars is exactly what it sounds like, and indicative of the kind of thing that will outsell Metroid and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Now YOU can look like a complete and utter douche, as if EA's Boogie just wasn't humiliating enough for you.
For some reason, I've included another trailer beyond the jump, but I don't expect you to click on it. Somehow the promise of "36 licensed songs, 22 celebrities and 3 tough judges," just doesn't seem enticing enough.
Just remember, this is what sells, regardless of what we think the videogame market is like. Even outside the Wii, shoddy film licenses and rehashed sports games are the frequent chart-toppers. We can complain about the people who make these games all day long, but let's not forget ... millions of buyers are encouraging them.
Also, I find the warning of "mild lyrics" in that trailer absolutely hilarious.

I lose with my "It isn't a port of a PS2/Xbox1 game." comment. I looked the game up, though it isn't a "port" per say, it is coming out on PS2 as well. Sad times, Wii, though I know Gamecube 2.5 or whatever, still needs to get its own set of games.
I was going to make a joke about the sexuality of the two guys shown demoing the game in the trailer, but I see you subtly beat me to the punch by including the "Gay Friendly" tag.
I seriously think that third party support on the Wii is harming Nintendo rather than helping them.
I know the NES, PS1 and PS2 had a truck load of utter dross, but they could also rely on third parties providing some quality, they took the rough with the smooth and everything balanced out in the end.
But the Wii is a different concept with a different scenario, quality third party support is found on the other consoles, only Nintendo do anything of real qaulity for their consoles. I really think they should think about turning the Wii into an exclusive in house developer console, it may be a bit too late now, but Nintendo should consider it for their next console. It's clear that third parties don't understand or care about the Wii's unique approach and therefore you can say that third parties do not share Nintendo's vision, there's no point in working with people who don't share your vision.
:(
You know, I was very happy with the Wii's premise of "opening the market". I kept thinking, that hey, now the "normal" people may understand why gaming is so involving, and will stop saying games are a kids only affair. Fast forward 1 year, and now I can't stand the games that came out of it.
I am now playing twilight princess (yeah, I'm a late bloomer, so what?)and 20 hours into the game, I just realized that I can't die( and I'm no extreme player, I consider myself a very bad player ). It's a good game, no question. but part of why I game is for the challenge. I rather have a game that I stopped halfway than one that I went trough it with no hiccups. I read that the new metroid difficulty is also on the very easy side.
And alas! we will get a scale! so I can weight myself and do step. hurrah.
Another thing that saddens me is wen a "casual" player get in touch with the franchises I love. When I got to howl Saria's song, tears came to my eyes. my brother? "stupid wolf, why I'm not killing stuff already?".
I also saw some guys playing a wario mini-game that contained samus' morph ball. "why the stupid basket ball glows?"
It fells so tainted, so dirty.
Those people can't admire things the way we do. The only things that count are the immediate "why I'm stuck reading those 2 lines of text?" "why can't I shoot stuff now?" That's why the mini-games cater to that audience. They don't care about anything.
As far as the Wii goes, the graphics and animation are superb. It might not be for us hardcores, but as far as those kinds of games go, it looks like they've done a good job...
For cereal though, saying the Wii sucks because it has games like this is like saying DVD players suck because they play Sex in the City DVD's.
The Wii is quickly becoming the dominant next gen system. So, like the PS2 before it, the Wii will have the most varied types of games built for it, for better or worse. That means light weight fare like this.
All those currently in the anti-Wii camp will quickly change their minds when the first high quality, friend code free online FPS comes out. That may be Metal of Honor Heroes 2, or Red Steel 2, or Metroid Prime Hunters 2, or something yet unannounced.
But it will happen. And when it does, the undeniably superior console FPS controls the Wii delivers will make believers out of all y'all.
Even if my brain agrees with Tron Knotts, it still pisses off my penis that I can't play anything but Zelda on my Wii. So: fuck these games regardless of market forces! Shit=shit!
The Wii will never become the dominant next-gen system, its sales won't mean much if it doesn't have the games to back them up, which it doesn't and won't for awhile, like it or not, visuals do matter sometimes and the Wii cannot push out the visuals the PS3 and 360 can, not to mention that their control scheme is so radically different that its difficult to even port something.
The Wii is not getting proper sequels to system selling franchises, they are getting side stories like Umbrella Chronicles and Crystal Bearers, and the only time you'll see Solid Snake will be in Brawl, MGS4 will come to the 360 before they even consider the Wii.
All the Wii has is Nintendo's own games, which have a massive drought between each, and the occasional 3rd party gem but that's about it.
Friend code free FPS, HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, oh man, that was good, I need a good laugh, I can't believe there are people as deluded as you around, but hey, I'm sure Nintendo will abandon the system they set in place just because a few vocal geeks don't like it.
Superior controls to whom? PC fans? Tough shit because I hate that control scheme ergo I don't like the Wii's FPS control scheme, I don't like the Wii's control scheme period.
The Wii is an enigma, its a system selling machine with no system selling games and in the near future the Wii will get Brawl and Galaxy, maybe Nights but I don't trust Sonic Team to not fuck it up and tons and tons of complete crap.
Meanwhile you have something like the 360 which is pushing out games THIS YEAR and it has a decent backlog of system selling titles(not all of them shooting games) and its not selling as much as I feel it should sell, perhaps its the price point, but the 360 at this point is in the same position the PS2 was when it first started out, it also appeals to the same type of gamer that Sony went for with the PS2.
It also amazes me how anyone can defend Nintendo, you're talking about a company that told all its fans that supported them through their rougher times to go fuck themselves with the Wii, not to mention their shitty business practices and the sheer arrogance of the company.
The Wii is a fad, nothing more, it will suffer the fate as the cube, mountains of crap and one golden nugget sticking out of the big smelly turd, delude yourself into thinking that one day it will dominate and be as the PS2, it won't, Nintendo saw to that with its control scheme and underpowered machine.
If it somehow does become the dominant machine, I weep for the future of gaming then, originality will be pushed aside for Nintendo's little waggle machine along with its plethora of minigame collections and Nintendo's own stale as hell franchises.
You guys hear about the new Zelda game? I hear you collect things like heart pieces, you also get bottles, possibly something called a master sword, you might also fight some dude named ganon, pretty fresh and original eh guys?
Or the new Metroid game, rumors say you can get 12 energy tanks and you walk around a planet or different planets and collect things to power yourself up, you need to backtrack with your new powers as well to collect previously unreacheable things.
That Nintendo, always on top when it comes to fresh original content ^_^
If you avoid watching dancing with the stars on TV Im sure you can manage to avoid it as a $50 purchase for the Wii.... case closed, Im onto sterlings Anti-Nintite campaign....
exactly why i sold my wii and bought a ps3. what a joke, its mainstream bs.
looks like an ipod comercial to boot, god ipods suck shit. sound quality is crap, and the interface sucks, cant file browse by folder. ipod touch has a good interface, but sucks for volume changes and missed hardware buttons.
i bought the song walkman a810, its just like the ipod nano, but the sound quality is clean and amazing and full and hi fi, the interface is perfect, and video looks better than the ipod nano...
SCREW IPOD, scream this game. love apple computers, but hate the ipod.
And the wii is for the mainstream people, not us die hard gammers who want deep worlds and content and stories that mean something, or just blood and guts :)
Another reason for me to never get a wii. FPS on the wii will never succeed, Metroid was too easy with its god awful AI, and the wiimote has too much of a delay for any multiplayer FPS to be successful.
Lets face the real truth guys. If this wasn't called "Dancing With The Stars" and featured a monkey dancing with a sexually confused robot most of you would be excited about this game. Lame games have always been around and always will be. If they become more popular we will see a lot more games made for the hardcore audience too. Just look at the DS for example.
"If this wasn't called "Dancing With The Stars" and featured a monkey dancing with a sexually confused robot most of you would be excited about this game."
*zardoz: "I seriously think that third party support on the Wii is harming Nintendo rather than helping them."
These are the developers and games Nintendo WANTED on their system, remember? Cheap dev costs, innovation, multiplayer gatherings, and all that?
*zardoz: "only Nintendo do anything of real qaulity for their consoles."
Like re-releasing 8-bit games, and requiring you to buy a PS2... I mean, VC controller... to play them.
Nintendo is like any other 3rd party developer. They have a couple really good titles once in a while, and a ton of bad ones. The good ones are just SO good that the bad ones are overlooked.
I wonder what Nintendo would be like without Miyamoto.
*Kyousuke Nanbu: "The Wii will never become the dominant next-gen system, its sales won't mean much if it doesn't have the games to back them up"
It already is the dominant next-gen system. Two things sell systems: hype and games. If Nintendo creates some new hype (a repackage or a new attachment), they can live with the lack of games. They don't need much substance if they reinvent their image every once in a while.
Wait, were we talking about Nintendo, Apple, or boy bands?
*Kyousuke Nanbu: "You guys hear about the new Zelda game? I hear you collect things like heart pieces, you also get bottles, possibly something called a master sword, you might also fight some dude named ganon, pretty fresh and original eh guys?"
Nothing is original. But, tack on some melodrama and it's all OK. Hey, even bloom and brown works if Nintendo does it, because that's "style".
*Hexfix93: "exactly why i sold my wii and bought a ps3. what a joke, its mainstream bs."
It's mainstream BS all right. I mean, buying a PS3 so you don't get crap 3rd party games.
*Im OK: "Please stop making retarded shit like this for the Wii (or, hell, any other system, for that matter) and start making some actually decent games."
Translation: "Please stop making insane gobs of money on retarded shit for the Wii (and ports) and make games that will appeal to people who aren't consumer whores, know better, and don't grab things off the shelf at random."

Graphics don't look too shabby.
It isn't a port of a PS2/Xbox1 game.
But to stay in reality:

Ever.

Does that mean the PS2 isn't for you either, Jim?
first of all...great avatar!
second of all...great post!

/end of rant
I do, however, look forward to seeing Master P destroy whatever street cred he has left.
The future of videogaming!
False
True so does the ps2 because its getting this game also
