Hah, I already picked up Mindjack for 7 bucks a few months ago, played it and met some...odd people in the process. I need to go back to it, it really was enjoyable somehow.
And Jurassic is one of the games on my list to pick up, I haven't had an opportunity to grab it just yet. Don't worry, I didn't forget about it.
My personal 3 favorite bad games:
R.A.D.: The brilliance of its concept outweighs its terrible everything else. Also, hilarious English dub.
Winback64: Yes, yes, it's esentially a 3rd person Time Crisis with no gun prop, but it just gets so damn tense...
Clayfighter: Why is claymation always weird? Because it's better than you. Besides, what other fighting game has its own theme song? None other, that's who.
You just listed 3 more games I absolutely love. I own all three, I also bought the PS2 remake of Winback because I loved the original so much, I had fond childhood memories of that game. And RAD was a game I remember seeing alongside Katamari Damacy years ago and was lucky enough to find about a year ago complete. Such an odd game, but amazing.
360, however if my local Big Lots has a PS3 copy of Mindjack for 3 dollars, I'll pick that up too.
Then again, some pieces of shit are subjective. For example, I remember really enjoying ChoroQ for the PS2 even though it got raked across the coals in reviews. I would love to get it again and bask in its admitted mediocrity, just because the style was something I liked.
But when it boils down to it, life is too short to suffer through mediocre shit. It's the same reason I won't read bad novels, or listen to bad music, or especially, watch bad movies. The ONE EXCEPTION to this rule, is enjoying bad things in the company of someone else. Then the experience turns into something enjoyable. But to sit there alone and play Slave Zero in my bedroom was one of the most memorably depressing fucking experiences of my life, and I have vowed to this day to never do it again.
Good blog, though, I appreciate the concept and you make a convincing case; even if I think you are dead wrong, and perhaps a little insane. :D
Dark Void is incredibly repulsive, yet I don't feel I wasted my money.
I think most "bad" games are better than AAA titles. Lines like "That's people you're breathing!" reflect on me as a person much more than anything in Mass Effect or L.A. Noire.
@PhilK3nS3bb3n/DynamoJoe
Clayfighters is great. I'm glad to see other people enjoy it.
Say yes so I can internet slap you, that game was AWESOME and I will hear no different, Bulletwitch was also cool.
Agreed though, I love weird ass games, hell one of my favorite survival horror games of all time is Extermination for the PS2, its so janky but it had a ton of amazing concepts.
That is my favorite bad game of all time. I cannot believe I forgot it.

Look from 3:25 on. There's a looney toons tunnel.
"There are a lot of decent games out there that don't garner a lot of attention or are considered shit now days, when 6 years ago they would have been amazing. Not all of these fall into that category, but the fall into the only category that matters: fun."
There are a great deal of games that I feel belong in this category. One generation's awesome is another generation's mediocre. It all depends on the mindset of the player and whether they can isolate the game by itself and not judge it by the context of the year it exists in.
I think you got the wrong impression there. This blog/thread is about games we love. We're not dissing on RAD. We're expressing the same love for it that you have for Extermination: "so janky but it had a ton of amazing concepts."
But I was also burned by 2 in the oddest way.... and because of it, Im going to say just get 2. It should be amazing... it just sucks when their idea of importing your character from 1 is "here's your name, image and items, but we are resetting you to level X with all the points to add before you begin. Have fun!"
Since 2 has 1 on the disc, you can avoid that ass-hattery and just get 2.
Also, I think Duke Nukem Forever may have taken a lot more heat then it deserved because of 1) the console version. From what I have seen and understand, it was ABYSMAL between graphics and loading times alone. The PC version, actually was pretty good at it. and 2) Duke himself. Especially in light of how "white knight" things have gotten about other current/recent events, Im willing to bet Duke took a lot of heat for being... well Duke and specifically, ONE LINE he says and one level which I still dont think fit the game personally. Still, that's how much of the game damning the whole thing? Really?
@Solid: No I haven't. 1 was legitimately awful, so I never gave 2 a chance. I think I will now though.
@Kyo: Carrier and illbleed were fucking great. RAD too.
@Solid - Whoa! I would not call Iron Man 2 (or 1) a shitty game! Well, maybe it is. It wasn't trying to provide the same few things every other game provides in terms of action and controls; it does its own thing and I thought was awesome because of that.
I think the problem is AAA is almost always associated with 'good'. Assassin's Creed was hugely AAA, and I'll admit that game could be called just as 'shitty' as Iron Man 2, but that's because 90% of people only looked at what the missions were telling you to do, and found no enjoyment out of what you COULD do in the game. It was as much of a sandbox as GTA3's world, despite not having mini-missions to do; the game was just fun to run and climb around in.
Also, can I just throw out some more love for the unloved? Weaponlord. Balloon Kid. Pitfall: the Mayan Adventure. I played them all to death.
I love Carrier, actually, and Illbleed (though I misplaced my copy, shame on me), and I've always wanted to track down a copy of @N.U.D.E. but I don't have an Xbox capable of playing it (save for modding, which I'm incompetent at). It's on my list though and mark my words, one day I will own a copy of it.
@Captain
I don't think I can remember hating a game I've played, though there are several that I actively struggled to play. Darkest of Days is one of the more recent examples. I beat it, but it was physically painful at times to play for a multitude of reasons. Which is a shame, because it had potential had more effort been put into it.
@Everyone
It's awesome to see so many of you commenting, this is the first blog I've written in some time that I really felt personally about. Not only is it great to see everyone's ideas and opinions, but you're all growing my list of games to track down with each comment.
You know, I've been looking at that game forever, but the only new copy near me is still $40 (which I don't have atm) and the only used copy is missing the manual (which kills me inside). I may just crack down and buy an incomplete copy since the game is legitimately hard to find around here, same as Crash Time. It's on my list for sure.
1. Mindjack
2. Hellboy: The Science of Evil
3. Watchmen: The End is Nigh
4. Duke Nukem: Forever
5. Legendary
All for half the price of a new retail game.
Onechanabara on the other hand seemed really cool at the time but ended up getting boring after a while since the zombies barely attack you. Not the worst game ever but I got bored of it. It must be rare cause I actually got abit for it in trade in credit.
You've got the hook - you just need to deliver the goods.
Don't think I've ever played a game so painful, except maybe the fifteen minutes I played of Two Worlds before sending it back to GameFly.
The gameplay is broken, the AI is dumb as a post, and the translation job is one of the worst since the 16 Bit era.
And yet I can't stop playing it.
I don't outright look for bad games, however I occasionally do fall in love with some. Shadow Madness (PS1) is a great example. It is one of my favorite RPGs of all time besides being regarded as one of the worst.
Also, I recommend Dragon Ball Sagas (Last gen, multiplatform I believe) if you're remotely interested in DBZ. That was a terrible game I bothered playing through anyways.
That aside, did you like Too Human? If so, then please, for the love of God, explain to me why anyone would enjoy the monotony of the final area.
Proud to say, I /am/ one of those cashiers who have questioned what you buy. I even look at some games and go, "Huh. Bet he would likes this."
:)
as soon as i saw Onechanbara header i knew i had to click this :P
you know what's funny?? sometimes the so called mediocre games i actually have fun playing them than the so called "Big" Budget games.
i would like to add Dark Sector to the list because not only the game was 20$ at start(it was also one of my first PS3 games)
the glaive mechanic is soo freaking addicting plus there's nothing wrong enjoying games like this.
i also would recommend you to try Tenchu Z or the series general.
while it may look like low production values, the gameplay and stealth are soo freaking addicting you'll love it.
even with the horrid AI, i think that's part of the charm of the series :P
the game has over 50 missions with CO-OP to booth.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hub7tnFg0gA&feature=plcp
definitely a great game that's been shunned due to it's low production values.
@Rondo-Vanity
actually i could see why people would like Otomedius Excellent and GalGun. especially Otomedius since it's more Gradius type game with a anime artsyle.
it would be a shame if people pass this up just because of the artsyle etc.
