Project update: Fable III 'almost at its final edit' photo

Peter Molyneux's tease that Fable III would hit in early 2010 doesn't seem that far off base. In a recent interview with Develop, the Lionhead Studios boss and creator of the Fable series said that the next Fable title is "almost at its final edit."

Fable III is set to be unveiled again at the Microsoft-sponsored X10 event in San Francisco this month, but it doesn't appear as though that the build will be playable. We'll have to see, and now start wondering thanks to this little project update.

One thought: this game came together fast. Are we looking at Fable II with a new skin, or something as revolutionary -- and Natal-ly -- as Molyneux has teased?

Fable 2 was a good enough game, but there was no actual choice other than good/eval.

Umm... something doesn't sound right. We've barely seen anything of this game and it's in its final edit!? And if it's so close to release, why isn't the build at X10 playable. This looks like it was really rushed and / or crappy (although hard to say because no-one has seen the damn thing yet). Plus I would think that a game as high profile as Fable 3 would get more exposure like when Fable 2 was getting all those pre-release dev diary videos. That coupled with the fact that Fable 2 was terrible and Mr Molyneux can't keep a promise makes me not at all interested in this

I' d be surprised if this comes out before Natal does.

Pleasantly surprised, but still.

I'm thinking Fable III will look alot like Fable II, but the actual gameplay will be very different from what we're used to. If I'm peeling this onion correctly...

I expect this game to be surprisingly good. PM, shut yo mouth, fool, and innovate.

Keep peeling Tubatic, because I hope you're right. I'm playing through Fable II right now and it's a fun game, with a lot of glitches. I'm hoping Fable III is more refined.

The Fable games are actually pretty solid action RPG's. There's just nothing that special about them (made especially apparent when contrasted to Molyneux's hype). The most disappointing aspect though is always the story. There's never really much of one. I suspect that if they implemented actual dialogue for the 'Hero' (instead of the gimmicky gesture system), a lot of other things would improve.

What DaedHead, Tubatic, and RichardBlaine said. I liked Fable 2. It wasn't without it's flaws but it is fucking lightyears and lightyears away from being as bad as people say it is.

Truth is I think people just dislike Molyneux. Which is understandable but still. In my opinion when you objectively judge the actual game it's a solid piece of work.

Peter Molyneux appears to be taking the Radiohead tactic of "Oh hey we made an album/game HERE!" fairly seriously. I'm glad. More people should do that.

I'd care more about Fable III if the other two hadn't been good but incredibly disappointing games.

Option A Mr. Nicholson, the speed you mention, the lack of hype from someone like Molyneux (or maybe not lack but not the usual amount) and specially the lack of any kind of gameplay video makes me doubt this as little else than an expansion (Fable 2.5?), sure i could be wrong, but so far evidence points otherwise.

Well, the last one took longer because it was on the 360 for the first time, also. And I agree with Xzyliac- the amount of disdain for Fable 2 is surprising. Some of you act like it was the worst game of the year! And you guys claim that you don't like the games in part due to the hype, but there has been very little about this one.

Also, why would anyone hate Molyneux? Because he's passionate about making games? Because he's ambitious and naive about what he can accomplish in his games? Those are pretty lame reasons. He seems like a likeable dude to me- a guy who just wants to make the best games he can.

I find peters imagination anoying and incredibly fascinating at the same time.

The anoyance comes from his ability to talk like his next new game is revolutionary for the games industry. You know, like the holodeck would be for the world if it were ever to exist in this time.

The fascination over his imagination is the fact that somebody this nuts is in a major place in the industry.
His name is mostly synonomous with greatly recieved and profitable games.
So his influence is secured.
And the fascination also comes from the fact that games comes from creative imaginations.

Games begin with imagination.

As much as I hate him, it's counter balance with interest in what he could possibly bring to the table.

That's Peter Molyneux for you. I wish he'd grow up, but if he did the Fable universe wouldn't exist. So I bite my wish. :-)

I was pretty hyped for Fable 2, and while it didn't deliver on what it was meant to (big suprise) it was still a good game. But Fable 3... well, I have nigh on zero interest for it.

That said, Molyneux is in fact one of my favorite developers for actually attempting new and amazing things that are destroyed by less than capable hardware. The same will probably go for Milo, we just don't have the tech to do what he wants to do yet.

How long did Fable 2 take to develop? Remember how broken and buggy that was? This thing's going to be a disaster!

man, it's only been a little over a year since I played the second game!

I liked it, but please have a bigger over-world next time, Fable 2's was shockingly small

Maybe you should just cut off your Xbox 360 ever time you die in Fable II, run fives miles, and then turn it back on to play. That should be challenging enough...and maybe even more dramatically-interesting. After all, making sure you don't get what you want is the best way to feel true, raw, emotion.

Fable 2 was fun, but I still regret paying full price for it. I doubt I will make the same mistake in the future.
