Project Sylpheed demo crashes onto Xbox Live photo

While Project Sylpheed has been out in Japan for quite some time, the US version is just now gearing up for release on July 10. If you're unfamiliar with this game, think of it as an off-rails space shooter. It sort of reminds me of the Rouge Squadron series with a little bit of Robotech thrown in for good measure.

A word of caution: do not jump into the game without at least attempting to complete the tutorials. Project Sylpheed makes full use of every button on the Xbox 360 controller, and you'll learn this early on. But once you do figure out how the control scheme works, there is a lot of fun to be had.

If you are looking for something to play on this boring summer afternoon, Project Sylpheed is worth checking out. Or, if you are like Aaron Linde and can't wait to get your hands on the full release, take a look at the game's official Web site, which launched earlier today.

If you have to go through all those tutorials to enjoy a game it's just not worth playing. I spent maybe 2 minutes on the actual mission (no tutorials) and still had no fucking clue what I was doing. I've never deleted anything from my hard drive so quickly.

Opinions are like assholes, everyone has one. No matter what game you play today, they all usually have some kind of tuturial, whether it be an instruction manual or in-game tutorial. Games today are not like the 2-button D-pad games of the past.

I went thru the tutorial and came to the conclusion it would be more fun to eat a bowl of infected medical glass shards. But, that's just me.

Until Freespace 3 shows up, this will do nicely. The only thing that would make this better is a custom controller like the one for Steel Battalion.

NEED. MORE. BUTTONS!

Hey, maybe the flight stick for Ace Combat 6 will do the trick...

played the demo, yawned. then went back to playing Shadowrun

this abomination is the true face of SE intentions with the 360

it's not fun
it's not an RPG
It's not what we wanted from them

but no this is a American console so they decide to give us a SHOOTAN game

But I'll say, those are the prettiest last-gen graphics I have ever seen

What's wrong with shooting?

It's in space, for God's sake.

What more do you want?

Yeah, it would be a lot better with multiplayer. But hey, it's only $40, right?

how is it boring? it's like rogue squadron on lsd, sped up, with japanese techno and a high chance of seizure. not about the demos recently. i want forza, dirt, overlord and now this. what ever happened to summer gaming droughts?

This game was just crazy, I couldn't decide if I liked it or not when I played the demo mainly because I couldn't tell what the hell was going on with the ridiculous amount of stuff on my screen. I'll give it another go later to see if letting it sink in will make any difference.

note: I did play through all the tutorials.

I actually enjoyed the game a lot more my second play through.

Much like any other space sim I can remember playing (okay, probably every single one ever released), practice makes perfect. At least managing controller buttons is easier than remembering a keyboard-spanning hotkey set.

That demo is fucking HARD. Probably not helped by the fact that my TV is pretty far from where I sit, making seeing every little detail harder than it should be. It is more like ye olde PC space sims(tie fighter, wing commander et al) than console blasters like rogue squadron, and as such I miss having the keyboard if only for the targeting controls. One button for ALL targeting just isn't enough for this type of game in my opinion.
