It appears that the game once known as Project Origin is now being titled F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin

Funny story this one: back when the game was first announced, the name "F.E.A.R." was owned by Sierra, who published the first title in the series. When Warner Bros. Interactive acquired the game's developer Monolith, they owned the rights to the game's universe, but not its moniker. They had one choice -- hold a contest and have fans name the game.

Well, that wasn't enough, apparently: with Sierra's future in question, Warner Bros. recently swooped in and re-acquired the rights to the "F.E.A.R." branding. So there you have it, we can start officially calling Project Origin F.E.A.R. 2. Makes things a bit easier on us, and likely will be less confusing to consumers.

I had a chance to get a demo of F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin back at E3 and it was looking pretty slick. I mean slick with blood, of course -- things, including bodies, were exploding left and right. I liked what I saw; it's too bad the game -- set to hit PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC, has had its released delayed until February 10, 2009.

I liked the name 'Project Origin' by itself, now with the FEAR tag it sounds awkward, oh well. And it got delayed? damn.

Its about time. I remember seeing comments on the game saying things like "THEY JUST RIPPED OFF FEAR!" Spoiler: Its a sequel by the same developer.

Well good for them to get the name back but it's a pretty crappy title. Then again I hate all <GAME NAME> <NUMBER>: titles.

You're much better just having a title that lets people know it's a sequel without just tacking on a number. I remember a designer/developer/manager/someone commenting that they wanted Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne to simply be called "The Fall of Max Payne" which would have been perfect in my opinion.

"Project Origin" by itself was better. "FEAR 2: Project Origin" is so generic.

Geez! That's a pretty big delay. Probably for the best though seeing as I was thinking about skipping it with so many games coming out this holiday.

What was the point of the naming contest then?

R.E.A.R. 2: Project Orgy

If FEAR was a movie, you know you'd be seeing that title on the porn shelf's any day.

I always wondered why they didn't put FEAR in the title. It's instant recognition, at least with the fanbase the first game established.
