Project Origin delayed, creepy girl gets more restless photo

Monolith Productions art lead Dave Matthews has revealed to IGN that Project Origin will be delayed until early next year. The reason for the delay is a little up in the air, but it may have something to do with the fact that Monolith wants to release the game on the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 simultaneously. Originally the game was slated to hit this fall.

IGN got their hands on the title recently and their impressions are quite good. The AI has been ramped up considerably. Now, instead of just eating bullets or running aimlessly, enemies will seek environmental cover. Apparently, enemies are also intuitive enough to seek water if they catch on fire.

The improvements don't just stop with AI. The narrative is being tweaked as well and will no longer revolve around phones. For me, this is a great relief. It’s good to know that Monolith is taking their "true" sequel to F.E.A.R. seriously. My only question at this point consists of many different ways I can light enemies on fire. The more flames I can spit out with telekinesis, objects, and guns the better.

I refuse to support anything that attempts to pass off little girls as scary.

Then you've never played FEAR. That little girl scared me!

I played the original and the expansion, Extraction Point, I got so tired of going from one abandoned, brown office building to the next that I quit right after I finished the game.

Screw Perseus Mandate and Project Origin. From the trailer I see more brown in the dark abandoned office buildings.

I've loved all of the games/expansions in this series so far. I'm actually glad for this delay, as my fall game list just got one game shorter. Woot!

Hay maybe they'll figure out how to not make a shitty game full of bland environments too while they're at it. Or maybe not =<.

I always liked the concept and gameplay of FEAR, but as many have already stated, the environments and enemies got really bland, really quickly.

Wow. Never there was so much hate on F.E.A.R. Internet fanboys. They'll be slobbering over a game/movie within the first couple of weeks, then next thing you know, they'll start hating on it like it's the cool thing to do.

That's a big bomber.. I was looking really forward to this. Personally, I believe the PC release should be priority for Monolith.

So, now that's off my games list I'm left with Spore, Far Cry 2, Fallout 3, Dead Space, Left 4 Dead and GTA4 for PC.

Rizno: At least they aren't prioritising consoles and releasing a half-assed PC port months later like a lot of formerly PC-centric developers do these days (Bioware, Epic etc.) then demonising their user base to justify poor sales.

I liked FEAR alot, didn't care much for the expansions though.
I wish Monolith would do a sequel to SHOGO. Or No one lives forever awesome games they are...

As a few of you have said, I thought FEAR was a major disappointment. Guns were boring, environments were samey and drab, and the plot was pretty derivative.

Alma was pretty scary, but it just reeked of "the Grudge" to me.

The sequel will have to do something pretty special to interest me.

FEAR was fun, but I'm glad this is coming out later. There are just too many great games coming out soon.

FEAR might've been bland, but by god it had awesome A.I, and I have'nt really played anything else since that matches it.

F.E.A.R. was just amazing to me. First shooter I had enjoyed properly since Doom on my Sega Saturn. Also, the storyline took my interest deeply.

Crysis was just epic fail to me and over-hyped in my opinion. But of course if you're reading this and are a Crysis fan then my opinion shouldn't mean anything to you!

Anyhow, come on Monolith, WANT IT ASAP ON PC!

I hope that this sequel is more scary than the last game. F.E.A.R was scary, but if this is more heart pounding then I'm sold.

This is probably a good thing since this is one of the games I probably would have had to pass up this year.

That would be why. Having done games on all three, I can tell you which the hardest to develop for is...

Badgering news, considering I was a gigantic fanatic of the original F.E.A.R..But I believe Dead Space and the PS3 version of Bioshock is being released in october,so I believe they'll keep me entertained until it is released. But hopefully this will surpasse the original.
