Project Natal to be priced 'like anything else' photo

Gizmodo posted this tidbit about Project Natal which is so vague that it could mean anything from what we think it means to a prediction that the birds outside my window could at any time transform into Gremlins, but hey, we run with rumors so you can speculate on them. So, speculate on this: Microsoft's Entertainment & Devices division president Robbie Bach said that Natal will be priced "like anything else". Like, a console?

More likely, this points at Natal being priced in the "slightly expensive" range at first, and dropping in price later down the line. Of course, that can be said if most hardware, so that's not saying much. How much would you pay for Natal, if you plan to buy it at all? Would it be worth, say, $300? More?

If this thing is over 100 i think it's going to fail. People don't want to rebuy their system just so they can spaz out flinging their arms in the air instead of their wiimotes.

$75-$150 is my max, other than that I'll pass. Not worth it.

Yeah, I think 100 bucks is my threshold for this, and that's pretending that I want it... when in fact, I really don't.

I don't actually have a large stage or studio with which to set up and, if the propoganda is to be believed, really enjoy a Natal setup.

That said, $70. But it would have to have a pretty wonderous package-in game like dealy. Anything higher, and you're going to have to sell me hard on its usage and awesomeness.

Are we saying that Natal is MS's PSPgo??
Very likely imo.

I would not pay 300 for an add-on for the xbox that so far hasn't thrilled me anymore than what I can do mostly on wii already.

If there's a promising library of games that actually utilize Natal well and work pretty damn good, I'd mayyybe spend $100 on it. That's a huge maybe.

If Natal wants to compete with the Wii and with Sony's PSEye... then the price will have to definitely be under the $100.00 mark. The PSEye has motion sensing, voice recognition, HD video quality, scanning... most of the same capabilities of Natal.

... the PSEye is priced at about $40.00 - and you can find it on sale for less... so Natal will definitely have to be under the $100.00 price tag, otherwise it will simply be a consumer fail.

I'm not sure I'll ever buy Natal since I'm not big on motion controls. The most I could ever imagine paying for something like this is $150 and that's only if it had some really damn good software, which isn't something I imagine happening.

Well if it's coming from Microsoft, I'd assume they're referring to anything else they sell. So if you assume the base line is say, the Hard drive or the new wireless N adapter, you can assume that you'll be paying anywhere between 5 to 10 times the amount it's actually worth.

Priced like anything else or priced like anything else sold by Microsoft? I'll assume the latter, which means somewhere between very and extremely expensive. These are the same folks who charge $1/GB for a hard drive and $100 for a wifi adapter, so at least $149.99, amirite?

I'd pay $100 for it but seeing as how that's the goin' rate for their crappy wireless adapters I assume Natal will cost much more at the beginning.

I'd buy it at $100, consider it at $150 if there's good software, and won't pay anything more.

That being said, I fully expect MS to charge more than the $150 limit I've set. I'm thinking $200.

$100 MAXIMUM packaged with a game of some kind. It can be a mini-game collection or something, I guess, but I'd prefer something more substantial.

Niero's point is well taken...MS rapes you on proprietary peripherals. Natal will almost undoubtedly be overpriced.

Come on, if they are going to charge you $100 dollars for a simple wireless adaptor, wishing for Natal to be under $100 is a pipe dream.

I gotta give props to Microsoft's marketing for Natal which will probably let it charge whatever it wants when it is nothing more than a camera and microphone array...same as the PSEye. But they never call it a camera...it's Natal...it is this magic bar that makes things happen. I'd say they'll probably charge $150 and throw a minigame collection game equivalent to Wii Sports in complexity with no new IP. The whole behind Natal is the software whose functionality will probably show up on Sony's PS3 in similar form eventually.

The no controller thing actually bugs me. I need something physical to mimic swinging a sword or driving a car. I have a hard enough time playing Mario Kart with a floating piece of plastic resembling a steering wheel. You're abstracting everything to not even needing a physical medium to represent in-game object. Imagine playing rockband with no actual guitar, or driving with nothing to hold on to...can you accurate keep your hands up in front of you exactly 10 inches apart for a whole race? I don't see how that could even be an accurate way to control a game. At least the WII can double as a simple NES pad for the rest of the games that motion controls make no sense for. Natal is too niche-y.

If they are charging $75-100 for a freaking WIFI adapter and $50 a year to use that wi-fi adapter, this thing is going to be like $300 bucks.

Like Niero says, how much is the wireless adapter? How much does Microsoft charge for hard drives? what about the actual controllers. Everything is too expensive. The actual games are the cheapest element of being a 360 gamer.

and remember, this is the Xbox 540. An expensive interlude between whatever the hell the next console is when it releases in 2013.

if anyone seriously things this is going to be $100 or under then they are totally dreaming.

The plastic buttoned crap that is a RB/GH set costs way more than $100.

Natal will be $199 minimum. If it were Sony it would probably be $399 cos that's just how they roll.

That said, Natal could cost $25 and I still won't get it until there is at least one killer game that uses it.

HAHAH the only thing that has really dropped in price in MS hardware land has been their consoles. If Natal is to be viewed as an "extra" then Im' sure it will be priced liked their Wifi and HD's.......insanely.

Bleh. I would call $60 a good deal. If Activision sells plastic guitars for $200, they'll be able to squeeze more out of this. I don't plan on buying it until I can get one for $100, though. I might spend a little more if the software is AWESOMELY AMAZING and actually useful.

But it won't be. So I'll wait.

Dear Microsoft. If Natal costs more than a Wii Pus and Balance board you are probably seriously screwed and headed for a marketing catastrophe that people will make fun of for a decade. Do you care?

Yeah, neither do I.

Honestly I think the price of natal and sonys motion control should be the price of a controller. 60 bucks.

Also, do Sony's motion controllers have a joy stick, at least one of them has to have one. I saw a clip of them playing RE5 on it, and it just looks fucking awkward.

If it's not bundled with the xbox it's hardly worth a full console price.

It should cost less than the Wii Fit at least...

Having already needed a new controller and headset recently, on top of the Live subscription and wireless adapter that I had to buy when I got the console and the few thousand MSP I've bought for DLC, I think my fund for buying more plastic shit for my Xbox is well and truly empty for a few years. Natal can wait, probably forever.
