Project Natal: November 2010, 14 launch games, under £50 photo

An asplosion of Project Natal news has hit the Internet today thanks to MCV, shedding launch some details on the Xbox 360's latest attempt to corner the fabled casual market. The beans were spilled at a behind-closed-doors tour of Microsoft's UK studio, so some of the information is a little Euro-centric. Everybody interested in Natal should give it a look, though.

It appears as if Microsoft's motion-sensing technology will launch in the latter end of 2010, with a November release window being named. There will also be fourteen titles at launch, although none of the actual games have been revealed. We're guessing something Viva Pinata related, a racing game and then twelve sports titles. As far as pricing goes, it's suggested Natal will trade for "Sub-£50" in the UK, which means it will cost less than the RRP of a videogame.

Interesting stuff indeed. Can't wait to jump around the living room like a spastic trying to has sex with a porcupine.

Meh. Turn your errorbox into a Wii60 Whooo!

I bet the top selling game will be natalsports, then natalsports plus.

It is an interesting piece of technology, but I can still not see myself wanting to play without controllers, especially in FPS or Racers.
The only thing I can see Natal work with is party-games, sport games and mini-games, which is essentially all the same.
It would be helpful in some games if it were used to subtle features like tilting head = tilt camera, but I don't think that is the "revolution" MS is going for.

Price is interesting, double that price wouldn't have surprised me in the slightest - still, I think this is a good case for 'wait and see'

So this piece of tech that they've hailed as the second coming of Christ is worth under £50?

Cool. But Eyetoys are cheaper than £50 now.

@Sexualchocolate: as a long time playstation fan I have this to say to you: STFUAJPG! man you make all of us look stupid.
as to the matter at hand anything more than 50 quid is commercial suicide.

Natal games won't necessarily be controllerless. The motion controls could be used to augment the experience with a controller. For example, Natal could be used to implement head tracking or you could throw a grenade with your arm instead of a button.

I'm sure there will be plenty of useless waggle games as well, but it may not be completely useless to the rest of us.

Kotaku said it'd be $50 USD... so.... MORE expensive?!

I'm still not looking forward to this. $50 (or $80) USD is still way too much for (what seems like to me) a party favour.

If the bundled game(s) is good enough that would be interesting.

It will most likely be 'casual'-centric. I don't like it, but all power to 'em.

Certainly more interesting than the rival motion controls, but whether it's as good will be the clincher.

I have no interest in Motion control - not on my favourite console; not on the other ones either...

..my daughter, on the other hand...

That's a good price point. A ton just wouldn't see me get off my arse in order to play games that require me to get off my arse. Half that may tempt me to at least try it.

@Static Jak - there's just no pleasing some people. And as for the very definition of "worth"... well, it's just not "worth" going into.

@linuxguy - well said, sc's responses to anything 360-based are becoming incredibly predictable, like he lives for it. It's not enough to enjoy the PS3, but he has to spew bollox about his "enemy" too. Some would say he's perhaps a little insecure.

That's a nice surprise. I never expected it to be that cheap. I do hope it's not because it's a rushed piece of crap.

Wonder if it'll be $50 in the US. If it is, that would actually be a terrific deal, and I might spring on it just out of curiosity.
Also nice to know the PS3 fanbody woke up early this morning to troll.
If they made Viva Pinata Natal my wife would go ballistic. We'd have to buy it.

if its microsoft it is rushed but surprised that they waited till next fall to release it with the reaction they got at e3 u think that would rush it to spring because microsoft is the king of rushing things that end up being crap just look at the 360

Actually GhostMaverick, the production of the 360 may have been rushed, and indeed it did cause problems ala RROD. But as it seems to have been fixed with later models, saying that the 360 'ended up being crap' is not true. It's an awesome box of fun, and only retarded fuckfaced cuntknuckles would deny that. You might like your PS3 better, and that's fine - but to say the 360 is shit are the ramblings of a clueless cunt.

Fable III may be one of those fourteen. And for that price, I'll gladly pick up Natal. I was thinking it'd be at least $100 US.

Mehh, it's been proven that wii excercises are way less useful that actual excercise. All this does is change it to arm flailing.

How the hell are they going to charge $50 for this and still justify their stupid wireless antenna plug-in going for upwards of $100?

because you aren't expecting to sell that many wireless adapters in comparison to what you expect to sell of Natal. supply and demand sets the prices...and some greed

For $20 bucks more than Brutal Legend and 14 small games included? Sounds pretty fair to me. Considering the PSEYE is $30-$40 by it self with ZERO games. Oh and this will actually work well (wink wink nudge nudge Wii)

For those who don't know, 50 Euro does not equal 50 US Dollars."

The article says 50 POUNDS not 50 Eurodollars, and usually something that costs a Euro DOES cost a dollar in the states because we won't pay more and Europeans usually will. The exchange rate usually works AGAINST European consumer pricing. If it costs $50 in the US it will probably cost $50 Eurodollars in Europe or even MORE. Of course British Pounds work a bit differently but asking them to pay above the exchange rate equivalent of the US price is very common and sometimes the UK price IS a dollar to Pound conversion (which is a HUGE rip off).

the bad thing is no matter how good project natal may be, people will still look at it as a bad wii knock-off

While it is nice to see that a launch window was made, I am curious what the 14 games will be.

I really, REALLY don't like that there isn't a specific date and price, because that means both can be changed way too easily as there was never any commitment to the approximated price and release window. I also would greatly appreciate knowing what the software will be, as the Wii has taught me to have low expectations for motion controlled games unless proven otherwise. But having a semblance of actual information is a nice change of pace.

@TheJesusNinja:I wounldn't go as far as saying that it will deffinitely work well, but things are looking pretty good on this case. I wouldn't be surprised if it actually works great, although I kind of wonder if Microsoft has the skills to pull off interesting games that seem to really take advantage of the new tech. Which is something that, like it or not, Nintendo did to near perfection, masking the major flaws the Wii had at launch.

LOL! If you can't wait to "jump around the living room like a spastic trying to have sex with a porcupine" then pick up a PS2 Eyetoy and one of the Eyetoy Play games! I often use them for my exercise and yes... that's an apt description!

Glad to hear it'll be less than the cost of a game though - and hopefully the games are actually "next gen" and not a repeat of the Eyetoy fiasco.

I've got to say, I'm a bit surprised at the price. That's WAY lower than I expected.

Still, Sony's going to get the jump on them this time around, since their controller will launch early 2010, if that's still on track. Plus, I still need my controllers to have actual buttons.

This price obviously doesn't factor in the Microsoft Tax, that glorious little price hike that allows them to sell a wireless adapter for a hundred bucks.
