Project Natal not hitting this year photo

Microsoft’s Project Natal -- a wireless gaming device that tracks a person’s full-body motion through a variety of sensors -- isn’t hitting retail anytime soon. In fact, you won’t be able to get your hands, er, body in front of it this year according to Microsoft’s vice president of everything, John Schappert.

In an interview with MTV Multiplayer, Schappert simply said “Not in 2009,” in response to a possible 2010 release query.

Chances are you weren’t waiting for Project Natal to hit this year, but it would be silly if it didn’t release sometime soon. The Wii, you know, isn’t losing any steam.

Expect it in 2011. Can;t see it coming out in 2010 without a lot of bugs.

Are there even any games for the Natal? Good idea to push the Natal back.

I would bet that it could launch in 2010, but considering most developers haven't gotten their hands on it until just now, I don't expect much good to come from it until 2011.

I'm calling 2012 for decent stuff at the earliest.

Eh, it's cool. I'm more curious about Project Natas, myself.

I want them to take as long as they need with this. For one, so that they can iron out any issues with Natal itself, but more importantly so that we can get some good games for it at launch. The worst possible move they could make is to release Natal with no real games for it.

I, too, wouldn't be surprised if this was pushed until 2012--I believe this is FAR from being suitable for public consumption and even then there has got to be more than just ONE launch title available otherwise it'll leave a bad taste in everyone's mouth if either the device or the game sucks.

I haven't even seen the PS3 motion controller demo. Guess I'll look for that, now.

"Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic." Arthur C. Clarke.

This damn Natal thing works so well in that video it seems like the magics. The cynic in me says it won't work that well, but I'm hoping to be shown wrong. What's my point? I don't know. I'm just rambling here, dammit.

Really Wii motion plus. Everyone who has used it says it mostly sucks an right now its seeming even more redundant. The PS3 motion controller although still in tech demo stage (so like 2 years away) is everything the Wiimote wants to be.
And Natal with its mo-cap, face recognition and voice activation make them both look like redundant tech. Sure it wont be as good but sod it its good ENOUGH.

That was hilarious.

I'm not suprised that this won't be out in time for the winter, there were a couple of bugs present in the display they used, and they need at least SOME libary of compatible games before it'll be any use. Which is a shame, because they could make a killing around christmas time with this tech.
