Project Beachhead to manage Call of Duty online content photo

Activision Blizzard's Q4 financial conference continues, and some Call of Duty details were released. First, a new FPS is shockingly coming in 2011. I know! They didn't mention what studios were involved with it.

"Project Beachhead" was created to streamline all online content with in-game integration, including all kinds of community elements. Beachhead will include a newly formed studio which will focus on this new element as part of Activision Blizzard's renewed focus on online digital content as a viable means for generating profit.

When asked, Activision said Beachhead will have a "lot of services" but they are not ready to talk about subscription costs at this point. They didn't flat out deny it would be a free service either, but simply referred to an announcement some point in the future.

The First Strike DLC pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops sold more than 1.4 million units in the first 24 hours, a 25% increase over the last Modern Warfare 2 map pack, and Activision considers DLC to have "more commercial potential than most standalone console games."

First Strike DLC will be released on the PS3 later this quarter.

Yay, more cod! Like we need another so soon... (especially if it's gonna be poorly optimised on everything that isn't a 360)

That's a lot of dlc sold in 1 day.

I don't like cod myself (I prefer tuna haha) but I hope we don't get 200 angry comments suggesting that all the people who bought it have no taste or are retarded.

For that many people to buy that much dlc it must have something going for it.

Yeah that's definitely the most sad thing about Call Of Duty. They don't allow their customers to breathe. So we have a 4 month old game selling ridiculous amounts units [/I]and[/I] DLC only to start the cycle anew later in the year.

Well if I don't get sick this before the new CoD (Black Ops was my first) then I may be in for one more year before I abandon it.

You know, I was just thinking about how it's been so long since we got a Call of Duty game...then BAM, we get this wonderful news! Now we can get a call of Duty for every season(Springtime Call of Duty will be the best)!!!!

Excuse me, I will be at my toilet throwing up if anybody needs me.

The smart move for Activision is to drastically lower the initial cost and put out $5 DLC packs on an accelerated scale. They will create happy customers with money to burn.

This is old news, it was confirmed by this Modern Warfare 3 website http://mwarfare3.com/call-of-duty-mmo-confirmed-by-source-28 in January that a Call of Duty MMO game was in development and would be released in 2012. It sucks that it will be available to the China market only, maybe if it's successful there they will bring it over here.
