In the latest developer diary for Assassin’s Creed 2, the devs behind the videogame discuss the importance of progression. Unlike the previous AC, people won’t be spoon-fed a line of combat options as specific core plot points are met. Ezio is an industrious fellow, able to learn moves from different factions and able to buy new equipment such as armor and weapons from in-game vendors. This approach, as described in the video, is a direct attempt to avoid stagnation -- a good thing as noted in our book “Things to Avoid in a Sequel” (coming this Fall).
During all the progression discussion, a historian pops in to talk a bit about the period and architecture. We were surprised to see one, considering all of the footage of Ezio flying around like a 15th century Batman. Which, by the way, isn’t a bad thing as we’ve noted in our book “Batman and You: the importance of Da Vinci's sketches on modern society and videogames” (coming this Spring).
The first Assassin's Creed game had a progression of sort as well. Altair started out with a full life bar, all weapons, and all moves. Then the assassin's guild or something took EVERYTHING away. You naturally get your stuff back as you progress through the game. However, I never understood how they took away Altair skills. Did the guild make Altair forget how to grab ledges by tanking him with liquor until he was fucking wasted or something?
I still have one question: what about the whole sci-fi part of the story? Like the guy going through his past life's memories and stuff. I want to know what all that crap was about on the walls at the end of AC 1. WTF?
were hearing all about the ansetor part of this but what of the future aspect? like is the dude still trapped by the company? have they retrieve the piece of eden from the first game? or has he escaped yet?
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Maybe they have yet to go through the polishing stage.
Remember the launching of AC1? Nobody knew fuck about the whole Animus thing, they like to keep the sci-fi part a secret.
