Hohokum is amazing. It can also be awful. My time with it was often as captivating as it was arduous. Hohokum is everything right and wrong with videogames. It's equally worthy of condemnation and acclaim. I adore this horrible thing.

The term "roguelike" gets way too much airtime these days. If anything has permadeath, it's instantly a roguelike. If it takes place in a dungeon -- "roguelike!" But the original Rogue's core mechanical element was its grid-b...

High Moon Studios set a decent bar with its Activision-published Transformers games in terms of quasi film tie-ins (though the crown still goes to X-Men Origins: Wolverine, in my book). None of them were mind-blowingly g...

Usually when I'm watching two grown men beat each other up, their names are Ryu and Ken. I am a fan of a good fight in games, but aside from the occasional boxing match I have never been very interested in MMA. After watching trailers for EA Sports UFC, I figured now might be the time to start to learn the sport through the game.

Sportsfriends is another example of a last-minute Kickstarter save. Although it didn't look like it was going to get funded, fans came together on the final stretch and gave the game a chance -- which leads us into the PS3 and PS4 release this month. So was it worth the wait? Well that depends on how much you want to play Johann Sebastian Joust.

Another month, another LEGO game. These things are starting to be more frequently released than yearly Call of Duty games. And with that frequency comes some caveats, such as this month's title only including the two Hobbit films that have been released thus far. Does that put a damper on the entertainment value found within? Only time -- or reading on -- will tell.

Of all of the games to get a PS4 remake, you'd probably never put Putty Squad, an SNES game from 1994, at the top of the list. But here we are in 2014 with a full-on re-imagining, with more or less the same platforming mechanics that still work nearly 20 years later. The only problem is, System 3 Software has opted to charge $29.99 for a decidedly dated game -- which is a bit of a problem.
