Dreamfall Chapters
raised around $1.5 million in Kickstarter funding earlier this year. The 3D adventure game is the sequel to beloved adventure games The Longest Journey and Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, both available on GOG. I downloaded both at the behest of Destructoid's resident adventure game aficionado Fraser Brown in anticipation of Dreamfall Chapters, which will be launching next year. According to lead developer Ragnar Tornquist, speaking to Eurogamer, "the chances are extremely good that we'll land on one or both of the next-gen consoles."

I think the recent success of The Walking Dead, albeit an already hugely established name, helps prove adventure games can be successful on consoles. At least one console manufacturer seems keen on the game appearing on its system. "I've officially also said that Sony is a lot more inviting and welcoming to indie developers," Tornquist said, "so it's a lot easier for us to start that dialogue and get support. It is a bit harder with Microsoft but it's not like we're excluding anything."

Even the Wii U is on the table, though Tornquist noted they "can't make any promises because the the Wii U, it's underpowered compared to the next-gen consoles and PC obviously," while a tablet release is on the table as well. Tornquist also noted the team plans "to get back to The Longest Journey Home," the 2D point-and-click direct sequel to The Longest Journey, while also planning to work on some "smaller things in the Dreamfall Universe" and new IP. Good Dreamfall Chapters sales could abet this process; if not, there's always a return to Kickstarter.
