Pro gaming hits CBS today photo

In a continual baby step effort toward mainstream attention, and ultimately success, pro gaming plops into the major network light today when CBS airs today at 3 p.m. Eastern the Video Game Super Stars program. The show will feature players of the World Series of Video Games and of course Johnathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel. Here are the deets:

Video Game Super Stars, presented by Intel reveals the compelling personal stories of five rising stars of the competitive video gaming world.  Filmed during the World Series of Video Games Finals and on location from the gamers’ hometowns, the program focuses on Johnathan “Fatal1ty” Wendel, the world champion gamer who has become the “Michael Jordan” of the sport; Rafik “LoSt-CaUzE” Bryant, who uses his renown as a top gamer to help advance efforts in global philanthropy; David “Moto” Geffon, whose decision to go pro bucked the tradition of his family of lawyers; Shannon “Mary Jane” Ridge, the minister’s daughter who is now a Halo run-and-gunner; and Matt “Ballistics” Powers whose prowess at “Ghost Recon” is honed as a Sergeant at maximum security prison Pelican Bay and tempered as a father of two.

The program airs at 3pm ET, 2pm CT, 1pm MT, 12pm PT (check local listings) on Saturday Saturday, December 30th.   It is sponsored by Intel, Xbox 360, Fatal1ty Brands and ATI.

Annoyingly bad title and all, it's a very positive direction for video games. Will you be tuning in?

Warcraft and CS tourneys are cool to watch. That Quake bullshit is pretty boring.

I'm pretty much with Mr. Boring here. Watching pro gaming is the tedium of watching professional poker without the interesting personalities to break it up. Though it could just be the Filler Bunny icon forcing me to agree with him.

i just set this to record and i'll check it out at some point this weekend, but if this is as interesting as the Madden show on ESPN was, well, then it won't be too interesting.

gaming is fun with me and my friends and talking about it with other gamers. but watching other people play is only fun when you know that you're next!

Over here we had some program on a MTV-ish channel where they set up a room in a game gave the password by TV and you could join that game if there was room, that made some hilarious TV sometimes cuz of all the coms shouting.

But watching a serious game event like it is sports or something, nah rather not

I got nothing better to do. I will probably be watching it. It would be sweet if Jack Thompson comes out of nowhere and starts screaming at how terrible video games are for our degenerating youth. That could make the show interesting. And then Niero pops out of nowhere with his Destructoid helmet and start killing everybody and bathing in the blood of the dead.

this might be as terrible as battle of the network all stars..
and it would be much cooler if they expand the game selection for the tourney. including some super smash bros melee or something..because watching someone play an fps is as boring as watching paint dry.and id rather watch paint dry over an fps.

That show was pretty awful. I guess what I expected. We lose again.

It was an hour-long ad for WSVG.

As someone who was once heavily involved with competitive gaming, that show was a travesty.

I saw this stumbled across this show on accident and it was lame. It did remind me how smug and retarded Fatil1ty is pimping his products for 15 mins and telling stories how people stopped him in the airport to tell him how much their kids adore him, what a douche.

As much as I absolutely love games, all games, every game, I can not think of something more boring than whatching a TV show which encompasses people playing games. If i'm at the TV, and want to see a game, i'll play one. I'd be more entertained sitting outside watching paint dry, or grass grow, or whatever boring things people like to say they'd rather do when exgaerating their distaste for something.

I also can not even tolerate Fatal1ty, first all I hear is that he's an arrogant prick, and for christ sake he looks like Haley Joel Osment... So, fuck that guy, and Haley Joel Osment.
