Prisoners using PS3 Wi-Fi to chat to friends photo

We've written about the stupidity of the British prison service and its insistence on letting inmates have the latest videogames before, but this about takes the cake. PS3s were already supposed to be banned due to a prisoner's potential to exploit Wi-Fi, but it seems that Rye Hill Prison didn't get the memo, because inmates were doing exactly that!

Quite why criminals are being awarded PS3s in the first place, I do not know, but Rye Hill Prison was handing them out and the convicts were able to get them online to chatter with the outside world. The dullards in charge have pulled a Captain Obvious and decided that PS3s are now a "significant threat" to prison security and could be used to escape. The consoles have since been confiscated, even though they really shouldn't have been permitted in the first place.

"PlayStation 3 consoles are barred on the grounds that they have the capability to send and receive radio signals as an integral part of the equipment," stated a spokesman.

It's unbelievable, really. Call me a monster, but I was always under the impression that prisons were meant to be unpleasant places because criminals had done something they needed to be punished for. It's a sad day when the only reason they're not allowed a PS3 is because they might use them to try and escape.

Besides which, why did the UK prison service claim these devices had been barred years ago, when Rye Hill has only just confiscated the things?

There you go, if you're one of these fools who think the PS3 is too expensive. Mug an old lady, confess, and you'll get one in no time :D

Bring back the open-planned prisons with locked boxes around the prisoners heads. That's the way!

indeed!

I may actually pursue a career in crime, being as though the punishment is to sit in a cell playing on a PS3 all day. I mean, left to my own devices that's what I'd do at home.

In fact, now I'd only get a 360, shit! Now that is punishment.

They didn't want to use such a harsh redress against the prisoners, but replacing their backwards-compatible launch models with newer ones just didn't get the job done.

Also, police brutality.

I agree. If you're in prison, should you be suffering a bit? Why are they playing fucking video games??

I thought prisons were rehabilitation facilities, where in the best case scenario, after served time, the person in question would be bettered and...

Man I can't even finish that sentence. HAHAHAHA

You want to make things unpleasant, give them a copy of inFamous while the wardens play their copies of Prototype. Easiest punishment ever.

Your in prison, make my license plates mutha f**kers, why are they even allowed to have games in the first place or cable for that matter, or any luxury that I have to bust my ass at doing honest hard work to keep?

I can't yell FAIL loud enough.

Yep, that'd be a Jesus facepalm.

Have you had that one on special reserve? Or did you just scare up that gem now?

Would be better to punish them with 360's. They've got nothing to do so they'd play a shitload of games. Instant RRoD's. No repairing service in prison.

Better still, punish them by giving them PS3 with only MGS4..

"Guv, I thought you said we could *play* games on this thing"

I actually prefer them having them. Prison is still a generally horrible experience but at least this way they're just playing games instead of breaking out and killing people. You wanna talk wastes of tax payers money I have four words for you. MPs and the BNP.

You could always give them Halo and no internet connection.

ooooooh fun!

To be honest Halo and internet connection would be just as bad! As long as they had a headset to have...

"Fucking nigger, fuck you bitch nigger, nigger nigger nigger nigger fuck nigger, cunt, bitch nigger fuck, shit nigger nigger nigger nigger nigger nigger nigger nigger cunt nigger nigger whore nigger nigger nigger nigger"

...Screamed at them by 12 year olds with parents on benefits the whole time.

BAM!

just paint the cells with insulating paint. prisoners should have video games because the games keep violence way down, and can be used as punishment and taken away for violators. it's the whole idle hands thing. it's not like they can roll in to ebgames and buy stuff, so they aren't gonna take your life whilst in line.

And if they had a 360, the heat from the console could melt the prison bars...

So, no next-gen for prisoners?

That could be a good way to get the pedos to hate 12 year olds...CURED!
That or they'd be wacking it to every "damn hell nigger fuck" that spews from these middle-school dropouts mouths.

It's prison... that's why they were given PS3's instead of Xbox 360's.

@ brainderailment - You're new here right?

Chill - it's all fun and games. Get it, games? I fucking kill myself.

Seriously though, they would be OK with an Xbox, it's not like it comes WiFi ready or anything, "Can we get one of those WiFi adapters gov?" - "Can you fuck!"

If you'll excuse me, I'm going to rob a bank. I might engage in lethal violence and maybe some rape here and there. After all, what's the worst thing that can happen to me? End up in a cell with nothing to do but play videogames?
