My love for Prince knows no bounds. A brilliant musician and songwriter, the man's body of work is as impressive as he is small. And strange. His 1987 record, Sign O' The Times, is one of my favorite albums... ever. So to say I want some Prince in either Rock Band or Guitar Hero is an understatement.
Earlier today, a friend of mine told me that radio talk show host Tavis Smiley was interviewing the little purple genius. To my surprise, Smiley brings up the topic of the music games, asking Prince what he thinks of "this Guitar Hero."
"Oh," Prince deadpans, before laughing.
"Well, I ain't mad at them," he tells Smiley. "I hear it made like, $2 billion, and they came to us and offered us a very small portion of that. But I think it's more important that kids learn how to actually play guitar."
Prince goes on to say how the guitar is a tough instrument, one that took him a long time to learn. Being a freakin' genius, he's tamed that particular beast, along with every other instrument known to man. And thank heavens, because "U Got the Look" is a kick ass song. But he also understands the appeal of the games.
"It's cool for people who don't have time to learn the chords or ain't interested," he says, "but to play music is one of the greatest things."
I wonder if it's anything like what it feels like to FC Dragonforce's "Through the Fire and Flames" on Expert?
Still...some of his songs are pretty good, but you'd think someone who's made millions off of homosexuals by being androgenous and singing about sexy times would be a little more open-minded.
Still...I'm not gonna judge his music by how much of a douche he is.
And it'd be so ironic if he was a homophobe.
With that out the way, I need The Purple Rain album or a Prince version of GH immediately.
plus, you don't have to hear the annoying blips when you miss a note, or your fingers move just a little too fast and you miss out on the last note of a run, or not being able to shift your hand fast enough on the fret buttons..
then there is the freedom you have while playing real guitar to improvise a little in a song, or to make up your own solo. you aren't limited by what tracks that are offered and you can learn any song that you want to play, or you can write your own song
music games are just that, games.. they don't really further your knowledge of music, or your ability to play instruments, even playing expert drums is still nothing like playing a real drumset.. there isn't a drum track telling you what drums to hit at a certain time.. plus, there are more pedals and more effects that you can do with those pedals..
i could go on and on about this, but i'm starting to bore myself and probably you as well..
Exactly! Most of em love football videogames. I've also never seen a pilot say that people should learn to fly real airplanes instead of flight sims. :D
