Prince of Persia, Splinter Cell HD collections in March photo

Retailers worldwide have been hinting at them for months, but it's now official: Ubisoft is releasing Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Classic Trilogy HD and Prince of Persia Classic Trilogy HD to retail this March for PlayStation 3.

Splinter Cell Classic Trilogy will feature the original Splinter Cell, Pandora Tomorrow, and Chaos Theory on one Blu-ray disc. The games will be getting not only an HD upgrade, but will support stereoscopic 3D as well.

The Prince of Persia collection will feature Sands of Time, Warrior Within, and The Two Thrones; they'll be getting the same upgrades as the Splinter Cell collection.

Both discs will be available at retail on March 22 for $39.99 a piece. Digital bundles will also hit PlayStation Network at the same time. Actually, you can buy all of the Prince of Persia games on PSN now -- they've been available since late last year.

I already own all the original SC games on Xbox, so I doubt I'll be double-dipping. Never played any of the new Prince of Persia games, however...

Chaos Theory better bring back the fucking awesome multiplayer. Also, I already own the originals. I hope the Chaos Theory in the HD release isn't as bad as the PS2 version.

Agreed. I've got the Sands of Time trilogy on PS2. Great decision before I knew the whole flatscreen HD thing was going to catch on so well, and now, not so much. The PS2 were the worst versions, visually, and now I get to correct my mistake cheaply.

Works for me.

I'll definitely get the PoP collection. But I'm still cautious on the Splinter Cell one.

I'm all over the SC collection but I'll finally get to see what the fuss is over PoP as well. I only played the first level of Warrior Within before quiting but from what I hear it was the worst in the series.

Everytime i think back on the old splinter cells, mainly Chaos theory, conviction tastes worse.

Awesome. Glad I waited on the Prince of Persia trilogy. Now I can pick it up on Amazon when the price drops instead.

Also, does anyone know if the Splinter Cell games will be the Xbox or PS2 versions? I ask because I heard the PS2 versions aren't that good. Better question, do you think Ubisoft will update the online multiplayer for the games? Hope so.

Now all we need is a legit, release date for the Team Ico collection and an announcement of the Metal Gear Solid collection... yup, gonna go broke.

I've heard terrible things about the HD versions of these games. Poorly-done HD transition, audio glitches, among other things. I really wanted to get them too :/

Splinter Cells on Xbox were great. I highly recommended getting the collection
if your interested in Stealth.
Or if you have a PC, PS2 or Xbox bargain hunt and get those 3 games cheaper then the bundle.
Just no online on Xbox version :(

All are great, Chaos Theory is among the top dog of em all. Steller Camapaign, 2 Player Co-Op (Split Screen or Online) and the Unique 2v2 Multiplayer (Found in Pandora Tommorow made better).

@NukaCola- I didn't know people used a time machine to go to March 22nd and play these two HD collections already.

They are already out in Europe on disc, and the PoP games are on PSN as far as I am aware.

So... um Ubisoft, buddy, pal.

These aren't Sly Cooper's or ICO. These were on original Xbox. So... um... share the love? We like being financially gutted by nostalgia too.

As far as I've heard, they will be HD conversions of the PS2 versions of the games, with higher resolution textures but essentially are the same games.

Mmm, I'm not crazy about all the HD redux editions. Having one here and there is fine, but this seems to be turning into an initiative to sell us the same game twice on a regular basis. It reeks of 'cash-in'.

Or....you could buy the original xbox versions of these games, seeing as all of them are backwards compatible with 360.

For Splinter Cell, will it be the inferior PS2 versions? Or will they be the PC/Xbox versions?

I got http://www.amazon.co.uk/Prince-Persia-Trilogy-HD-PS3/dp/B0042X8V48 for Christmas already! Weird to see Americans waiting on it! (or just order it internation like I did with Demons' Souls before it got its European release)

Am I the only one that can't feel nostalgic about some relatively shor action games released too recently whose game mechanics don't really stand in this day and age? Believe me, I'm all for nostalgia and remakes, but man, wait until something becomes a classic to warrant such a thing. It's like going "screw it, i'mma open this aging wine and i'mma drinking the hell out of it in those plastic cups ovah there".

Now that that's out of the way, where my Team Ico's HD collection? Since we're at it, give me a bundle with The Last Guardian and I stop moaning about HD remakes of games that are still achieving "classic" status.

If the Splinter Cell releases are based off the PS2 version's, I'd recommend you skip them and just get them on PC or Xbox. The PS2 versions sucked, even if the first game included an extra level.

The PoP trilogy is already on disc here in Australia, although we have to pay more for the individual games on PSN for no reason other than that Ubisoft has nothing but contempt for us.

If you want the disc, you could always just order it right now from playasia.com.

There's something wrong with the audio in Sands of Time, though, with the speech volume being alternately too loud or too soft compared with the rest of the sound effects in cutscenes and in-game.

the pop "HD" trilogy is out in many places, and i hear its a terrible "HD" remastering.

Having only owned the crappy Gamecube version of Splinter Cell 1, which was ported from the vastly watered down PS2 port, I look forward to playing the whole Splinter Cell series with the finest graphics and presentation possible. I just hope they include multiplayer, because that was one of the biggest things I missed out on.
