A few days ago, I posted a pretty scummy-looking trailer of the upcoming Prince of Persia: The Sands of Timefilm. By scummy-looking I mean the quality of the video, not the quality of the film.
Of course, not everyone agreed -- some of you guys immediately said it looked like a generic action film, and have written it off as Hollywood bastardizing a game you've come to love. I understand being hesitant, and to an extent, I see where you're coming from with this.
But can you honestly say that the film doesn't at least look to deliver a competent, relatively entertaining action blockbuster? As a fan of the series, I'm excited to see the final result. I see a lot of elements taken directly from the games, from the Prince's costume to the look of the "Dark Prince" in a few of the time-bending sequences.
Crossing my fingers that it won't suck. I'll say this, at least it didn't make me "LOL" like this. LOL, indeed.
I am so fucking sick of fake British accents. It's not even British anymore. Hollywood has created a new accent. It's the "I'm some kind of brown or from a country that doesn't exist anymore but clearly isn't America" accent. And I know the prince had the same accent in the game, but I forgave it because not every fantasy/adventure game is like that. Pretty much every movie is. Go see The Beast of War. Best fucking movie ever made.
I already know I'm not going to like this movie. Something just feels wrong just watching the trailers, and more importantly, something is missing. Like I already know what to expect of this movie, and thus any sort of excitement or want to see this movie is completely dead.
Looks a whole lot better than I thought it would. I was under the impression that they were going to shy away from the mystical magic stuff but they are going full force. Definitely reminds me of the Pirates of the Carribean movies.
Wow. After his trailer I guess I am kinda looking forward to this movie. Looks like a solid summer popcorn flick. I'm just apprehensive of the inevitable movie game that will launch with it. Ack.
Wow, I really really liked that.
Looks like Pirates of the Carribean with the Dagger of Time, which is fine by me.
And did you see the Prince jumping around?!
Face it people, until all you purist people learn how to direct and budget blockbusters, this as close as we're ever going to get to a faithful game movie rendition.
I've personally had faith in this project since I heard about it. At first I was a little disappointed with some of the casting decisions but I guess I never felt disgusted with any of the choices, either. It's also the perfect studio to handle the cinematic side of things... I guess my only big concern is scripting at this point.
Looks good overall, but I'm still not sold on Donnie Darko.
Know what would have been real interesting, not saying it would work but it would have been interesting, if they could buff him up, they should have got Kumar for the role. At least he's from the right part of the world AND can act.
No disrespect calling the actor Kumar intended. I simply don't remember the actor's name at the moment and that he was in Harold and Kumar came to mind first.
the funny thing is that a number of the shots don't look like POP as much as though the direction was torn from assassin's creed, which isn't a bad thing, assassin's creed had a great look and feel but had crappy direction to the player and repetitive gameplay.
I bet they will nail some gameplay tricks as some time rewinds, but I also bet they will just ruin the story at half the film changing everything, like the silent hill film.
I'm not sure about this trailer. It definitely captures one element of Prince of Persia (high flying acrobatics), but it seems to miss out on the character development part. This movie just looks like an overblown summer blockbuster. We'll see when it releases, but I won't hold my breath.

But please, Disney, you only needed one Pirates of the Caribbean. At least the English accents were SENSIBLE in that one.
Jake's voice is dubbed by Nolan North.
Film looks lame.
I dunno, I'll probably see it and hate it, but whatever.
I would say that this looks like it could be the first decent video game based movie but that honor goes to Street Fighter the Movie.
