With Prince of Persia becoming a major motion picture the toy lines are coming out of the woodwork. We got a peek at the Legos coming out, but now it's time for the action figures to shine. ToyWiz has pre-orders up for the action figure line, which is being made by McFarlane Toys. There are a whole bunch of the Prince himself in different outfits, a few enemies and a few playsets. The toys ship in May so you can play along with the movie's plot all you want.

The figures look pretty solid, but I'm not that excited for them, though the price points aren't too bad. The names of the toys are my introduction to the Prince's name in the film, however. I think I'm OK with Dastan, though I'd rather that they kept his name a mystery. It would have made for some great running jokes and added a little flair to the character.

Every time I live action bits based on video games, they always look flat to me.

Example: These PoP figures look like they could belong to any generic timeline related set, not necessarly related to the movie or game at all. I blame Hollywood for this, but I guess I'm expecting too much without requesting an entirely CG production.

The Silent Protagonist

You know, I've gone through a lot of movies where i never remembered the name of a certain character and often that just didn't bother me. I think they could have gone without naming him to maintain the tradition.

You'd actually be surprised how many people would have been none-the-wiser anyway. I mean, he's the prince, how can you not know who he is? I mean, most people didn't notice nobody in FFX or FFX-2 ever said Tidus' name. Not once, because they let you name him.
