Price point and first photo of USB Skype mic for the Slim PSP photo

Nick told you yesterday about the official announcement of Skype features coming to the Slim PSP, and now Famitsu has revealed a few more details for anyone interested.

The service hits later this month as part of a new firmware update, and now there's a USB microphone peripheral to go along with it. The price point has been set at around $25 for a single mic, and $40 for the "Twin Pack," whatever that's supposed to be. (Why would you need 2?)

The mic is not at all unlike the peripheral that was released in Japan and Europe along with Talkman, and reportedly works in place of it if any of you are still "playing" that. No word yet on whether the Talkman mic will work with Skype, but I'd wager they've found a way to make it not. 

Hopefully you'll have the option of using the Socom headset or some other alternative means of audio input, because considering the placement of the PSP's USB port, talking into this mic with a black PSP will make you look like you're hesitantly biting into an ice cream sandwich. You'll find a picture of it after the jump, along with a shot of Skype in the XMB menu.

So Skype is the same price as buying minutes on the computer? So what we're buying is a headset?

why did they make that?
that is the worst peripheral ever.
the idea behind skype on the psp would be some kind of skype on the go, like if youre waiting for the bus with your psp and within wifi access you could call someone, why do you need to have the psp out and facing you to talk?
thats just asking to be mugged. so unless this thing can be put into ones pocket and still work, which I doubt it looks like more fail...
yeah topher hopefully the socom headset does work... because that... thing... fails.

Yeah, it's pretty stupid. The PSP has audio input capability as evidenced by the Socom headset. I don't know why they wouldn't just release another headset for skype instead of this ridiculous thing.

I've got one of those packed up at home! Yeah home alone marketing.

So I have not really heard about Skype before, does it basically act as a free wifi cell phone? I know Google is damn close....but you guys are way nicer and toss in flames to add twists!

That IS the Talkman mic. I bought Talkman when it first came out, and that's exactly what it looks like. The fine print on that picture even says 2005. :o
