Price drop part duex: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled now $10 photo

What's up with the Xbox LIVE Arcade price changes lately? First it was Madballs, and now TMNT: Turtles in Time Re-Shelled has been dropped from $15 down to a fair $10 ... and it hasn't even been released yet. The switch was confirmed by IGN, but no one knows for sure why it occurred.

Perhaps Microsoft heard a complaint or two from a couple of guys on the Internet? Sure, let's go with that. Talk about a heartwarming, inspiring tale. Hell, let's make a children's movie out of it.

The second I heard about Turtles In Time's revamped look, I immediately knew buying the remake would be a poor idea for me -- I own the Super Nintendo version and can only truly love sprite-based beat-'em-ups.

Besides, the game is wicked short and will undoubtedly be even shorter when you have co-op buddies who know what's up. Are any of you going to download it now that there's been a change in price?

So based on Jordan's post I think we can gather that this game wont also include the ability to play the original with sprites?

Nah, they've already said theirs not gonna be an "original sprites" option like SF2: HD Remix. Oh well, only $10 is awesome. I was gonna get it at $15, so this is just fantastic.

I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft is just doing this so when the game comes out, they'll just increase the price back to $15, which will more than likely cause people to complain like they did with the price of Braid. Microsoft does have a knack for causing grief when it comes to these things.

$10 or $15, I'll be getting it.

Outstanding news part duex! Considering how Bionic Commando Rearmed went on sale for $10 (and dropped to 5 in a recent temporary sale!) with so much more than a high-def paint job, I wasn't even considering this game for $15. Vigilante 8 Arcade would even be a better investment, imo.

I seriously hope this is a trend, because there was absolutely no fucking justification to sell games that were finally worth the standard $10 for 50% extra. If they can keep their prices down, I'll be far more likely to download games, which is more money than they'd get from me otherwise.

PSN version. When?!
If it lands at $10 for the PSN... Sold! It will be a great trip down nostalgic lane. =)

I'm going with the idea that the summer sale thing is going 5 for the price of 4, instead of 5 for the price of 4.5. Or whatever the numbers turn out to be. (I'm too lazy to look at the other post)

Think I'll actually buy it now then. Something fishy? Hardly, just Microshite trying to push 1200 points to the norm, then reading the internet and realising they'll probably lose substantial sales numbers.

I don't think they "listened to us" so much as saw the sales numbers. A bunch of crap games nobody wanted came out at 1200 or more (Death Tank, Lode Runner, etc) and they didn't sell. I figure the publishers saw that and now think the 1200 price point isn't viable.

Which doesn't make sense when Castle Crashers is the sales king of XBLA, and it's 1200 pts, but whatever. I'm just glad they're realizing that 1200 is a silly price point, and 1600 is just absurd.

(BTW, MS doesn't set the price. The publishers pick the price point.)

Nice, but I prefer the classic.

If only they did this with fucking Lode Runner, which I really don't wanna pay 15 bones for.

Well Penny Arcade cost 1600 MSP and so did the sequel, IIRC, ad those games sucked.

In both sales numbers and content.

I don't care about the negative aspects of this remake: It's still fucking Turtles In Time, AKA one of the best (the best, IMO) beat-em-ups ever made. This will always be considered a buy, for me.

I loved the original but there was no way in hell I'd pay 1200 for a 30 minute game but for 800 I think I'll be picking it up. I still don't like the way it looks, anyone else think they should have gone for high res 2D or Wind Waker style cell shading?

Something tells me MS spacebucks had something to do with this. Just a hunch, but mebbe the dev team wasn't quite sure on the difference between 800 wingwangs and 1200 wingwangs.

Then again, I don't even know what 800 points is in real dollars :x

For 800 points? Considering I was going to get the other two games and I think that 800 point rebate thing is in effect I'll probably do it since it'll be basically a free game.

It might have been Topher...

No for real! For the last month or two, Topher has had a vocal beef with the price of that game on every podcast where its come up. Someone probably heard him complaining, and made a wise decision.

Though, He'd probably say its still overpriced for what it is.

So, I'm gonna need for Topher to complain about every $15-$20 XBLA game that's about to come out...

I'm still not getting it. I'd rather play the original. This one doesn't have the mode 7 Shredder boss fight, right? It is one of my favorite boss fights of all time. So I'll pass.

Unless all of my friends buy it, then I'll succumb to peer pressure.

Not buying, the sprite art made the game, and it's way too short for $10 compared with other offerings on XBLA

I was going to buy this anyway, it being cheaper just sweetened the deal considerably. The only thing that could make this better is the inclusion of the original game as an unlockable or something.

I was going to give this a pass at 1200 points, because I can just play the original on the xbox1 and I'm kind of worried about the diagonal combat. But for 800 points? Sure :)

This is much more reasonable, and I'd like to thank whoever made this decision for now price-gouging us. Still, kinda sad to hear that there won't be any option for the original art, that's always a huge boon to me.

I had a chance to play through 2 levels at Comic Con and I can tell you that it's not just an updated look they gave it, it plays COMPLETELY DIFFERENTLY now. And IT'S AMAZING. You can now attack 360 degrees (jump kicks and everything) which doesn't sound like it'd make that much difference, but it really, really, really does. It made the whole thing seemed way more fast paced, which you'd think would make the levels seem even shorter, but somehow didn't feel like the case.

At any rate, my buds and I couldn't wait to play it again. I'm so pumped!

Maybe they realized that their target audience already shelled out for the arcade version a few years ago. $5-10 is a very reasonable price for XBLA games, $15 should be reserved for special releases, and $20 should be off-limits.

Style-wise, I really wish they'd have stayed 2D or 2Desque (cell shading). Oh well, the price drop made it a buy for me.

still on the fence, as i've got a perfectly fine copy of the original and a room mate who adores it as much as i do, so the whole online co-op doesnt really grab me as much as it should. still, this might be kind of sweet, i definitely enjoy the hd paint job trend, despite how stupid it really is.

undecided for now.

holy crap I just went through the whole range of emotions in 5 min. First I was super excited because I had never even heard this was coming to xbox live. Then I went to confusion from reading the "revamped look" point. Then finally I went into complete disappointment and anger after seeing the new screenshots....yeah, that's the extent of my range of emotions.
