I'll play this for sure, but after I hit 90 and finish all of the dungeons I'll unsubscribe and go back to playing Guild Wars 2.
For one, I disagree that the new expansion doesn't change things up. The lore(the best thing about the Warcraft games is the warcraft universe itself) has been building up and leading up to tensions being so high amongst the Horde and Alliance-hell, even amongst the same faction-that I fully expect the future of the game changing to a PvPvE scenario.
What we saw with the ToC patch in Wrath was an experiment and I believe it was a success. For those not in the know, part of the boss fight replaced creatures with NPC's representing players.
PvP and PvE have existed in spite of the other, so to speak, but I like where this new direction is headed. The Alliance leader is an immature little boy(I'm referring to Varian there. HEY-OH! WoW players will get that:P) and the infallible Jesus/Neo/Obama-like beloved leader of the Horde has been replace what is in essence, a dumbass war mongering brute. Shit is about to get real, yo.

Also, I can see how (to an outsider) this would just look like 'HURR DURR KUNGFU PANDA' but the Pandaren Monk and even the race as a whole have existed long before some intern at Disney stole it from the Warcraft RTS or books.
Plus, it's actually about a political move on Activision-Blizzard's part to appease the Chinese but we won't go into that supposed 'conspiracy theory.'
I'm personally looking forward to this..looking at the screenshots and such, it just looks beautiful. And the monks sound like a seriously enjoyable class.
Anyway people shouldn't hate, if you wanted serious fantasy Warcraft wouldn't be for you to begin with, go play Diablo :P
@Ramm: Which of the 3 rts games were they in? I'm truly ignorant on this. Never read the books. Miss the rts immensely. Starcraft ain't my thing.
Go back to making good games please. I really enjoyed when that was the case.
P.s. starcraft wasn't a good rts. Maybe try again with a new non-mmo Warcraft?
But hey at least with Pandas for every US customer they lose they can get three from China. Because its pandas and they like that there right right? :p
I told my wife two years ago that the only WoW killer out there is WoW itself after the new team came onboard. And I'll be laughing about it if it turns out I'm right. Go Blizzard go I believe you have a Chinese gold farmer on line one waiting for you. Something about it being too difficult in the new dungeons to farm gear and gold....
I'm a bit skeptical about the talent changes. Blizzard removed stat and skill points entirely from Diablo 3, and even WoW's system is being streamlined in the name of removing cookie cutter builds. So instead of fixing the problem by making the talents more viable so there are true incentives to make other combinations of skills, they simply the whole process.
"...so instead of fixing the problem, ... they simplify and homogenize the whole process."
Renewing my account for a month and buying the expansion still costs $5 less than a $60 retail release, and will last me many, many more hours than 90% of current console/PC games. Win/win.
Will it work? I don't know, we'll just find out! But yeah I am a bit optimistic about this expansion.
I'm not the biggest WoW fan but I do know that no other MMO right now can fill in its spot.
With Cataclysm I honestly think the end game content was a bit lackluster, but don't forget that they had to spread themselves a bit too thin as they revamped the whole 1-60 and I can imagine that would take an immense amount of work.
So yeah, If it doesn't deliver then I'll give GW2 a go :)
I've not played Warcraft since Wrath of the Lich King and I'm done with the game but people calling the inclusion of panda people just come across as downright WEIRD. At least come up with a sensible 'complaint.
I was hanging on to the memory of when the game was fun.
everything blizzard does to this game makes it more and more anti-social. there's no accountability. group quests (when there was actually active players in the levelling zones) were the best part of the game as you would run past the player you had teamed up with, or you team up with players you had run past. it was a WORLD of warcraft. now it's increasingly become a collection of instances with random people you never saw or met before. and the pokemon battles that had the potential to have to fighting with people you met in the world, has been confirmed as something that does the absolute opposite. it doesn't encourage you to collect pets and fight them because you get absolutely nothing for it. you can't even gloat because you don't know who your opponent is? that's sad.
I don't think i'll be going back to that.
hell, you can't even get the same experience of exploration any more. the map tells you exactly how much of the area you've explored, the quest pointer tells you exactly which direction to go, and as soon as you reach a certain level, there is no point running about and exploring because you just fly above everything. there's no joy left in that game.
well how about they took the rather impressive revamp of the entire world, and they completely trashed the whole thing by destroying the levelling curve. you simply cannot go through the zones in the intended order and have a challenging fun game. it was completely unbalanced and had you out-levelling zones before you even finished half the quests.
they completely removed all value in azeroth.
they completely destroyed the game experience for new players just to make power levelling easier for players who already reached level 85. all they had to do was allow those players to make a level 85 character. instead they ruined it for everyone.
Hah, since you've outed yourself as a high caliber moron, pandaren have been around since 2003 in Blizzard's lore. Didn't know that? Fair enough.
But then these pandas are just one new race that exist alongside many, many other weird and wonderful anthropomorphic creatures that feature in ALL of Blizzard's games for the last 15 years or so.
I'd avoid Diablo III if you find these sorts of things upsetting, there was even a Tauren in a space suit in Starcraft II!
Still, buffalo people are given a pass because they've 'been around before'? lol?
How dare anyone be creative, then! Panda people is obviously taking things too far!
Man, I'd hate to live in your bleak little Victorian world.
Pandas must be really upsetting, or something.
Calling YOU a moron? Have a high opinion of ourselves don't we?
My initial post wasn't aimed at YOU personaly, just idiotic trolls in general.
So yes, I've now just called you an idiotic troll. Just to clarify, as you seem very confused.
As I've ALREADY bloody mentioned, if you'd care to read, fair enough if you didn't know the backstory to the Pandaren and that they aren't directly inspired by a certain Dreamworks movie, but It's still a frankly WEIRD complaint to have of a studio that's filled their games from the past decade and a half with all sorts of anthropomorphic creatures, least of all World of Warcraft which features loads of said fantasy creatures, like the inuit walruses, buffalo people and tribal pig men, frog men, bear men, centaurs etc etc etc
I'm a hipster today!
You people ruin all my fun.
I dont know if youre trollin or not, but tbqh if youre not a Warcraft guy you wouldnt know where the pandas come from. Youd have to have played Warcraft 3 to know where they came from.
Besides I dont see how its any more ridiculous than throwing fireballs with your hands or cow people.
Beyond that they just look... Like they came from Build-a-Bear Workshop. Like, will one of my quest givers be the Snuggles Bear? WAAAAY too cutesy compared to the rest of the world. And thats not even with the obvious Kung Fu Panda connections.
Any way, timed dungeons are going to be a pain in the ass, and it'll be because of the players, not the game. I can't wait to read all the BS people will put each other through because they aren't hussling or whatever. Its a good idea since they put people through it before in other dungeons in the past, but for all of them? I don't know, even as an optional thing you know people are going to come into a run and go "So, we're going for the Challenge right?" just to be pissy and act out like a child when no one wants to do it.
Pet battles basically sound like more pandering and time wasting stuff. Fun idea and it'll find it audience, but it'll be something only a subsection of the players do, I'm sure. No reward for winning will make it something that won't appeal to everyone for sure. Honestly wish they'd do more games like the Chess event in Kara or the Plants Vs Zombies thing in Cata.
Scenarios make it sound like they're looking to make Group Quests worth grouping for again.. Cata had a huge problem that I saw when I was still playing and it was the fact that almost every quest aside from one (the arena) I could remember doing in the new content, was basically soloable, even if it was heroic --usually because they gave you NPC's that'd help you through it. These Scenarios sound like they're forcing you to play other other people again, but aren't simply leaving it up to needing to spam for more people. Kind of takes the community and interaction out of it the same way LFG is complained about doing. Non-combat scenarios don't sound very fun to be honest, unless theres some sort of game to them, even if they're lore heavy -The rewards are going to need to be very appealing to make it worth doing those if they add them.
The new talent system pisses me off a bit, specially after all the work they did to rip apart the system fro Cataclysm. Spend way too much time before that expansion adding comments and giving input on how to make the talents (specifically for shaman) better, and here we are ripping up the system and basically dumbing the whole thing down to sticks and twine. One of the best things about the game was working out your talent build, even if it was cookie cutter, and learning why you needed those talents over others. The bonus' to these new talents, the last time I saw them, are superficial at best and, while it will do away with the cookie cutter system, waters down the game a lot -specially by making every talent sound like it was meant for PVP.
10 to 1 the expansion's release date will be announced around the date there was supposed to be Blizzcon, if not sooner at another trade show, and it'll be set for late fall, early winter, as per usual.
Overall I'm not impressed by this expansion so far, I'll probably only come back if I happen to get VERY bored and need something more to do with myself then trying to clear out my backlog.
Assuming it turns out as they intend it to and not like Cataclysm's system, there is more depth to it based on the fact that for the first time, the choice on what you want to take is in your hands, not whatever has the highest theoretical mathematical output.
