I'm getting bored of the Combuster though. If they're gonna bring more weapons from past games back again I wish Insomniac would bust out the dual wield guns from Deadlocked, and the whip from Up Your Arsenal? I dug those.
To me, it seems like the only reason they are adding Tower Defense to this game at all is because they can do it quickly and cheaply. It seems like, once again, it is moving far away from what Ratchet fans actually want. I don't know a single Ratchet fan that asked for this. Ratchet fans who were absolutely devastated by All 4 One were asking for a traditional Ratchet game.
I'm shocked they didn't deliver it, and instead delivered this. Not only are we getting this Tower Defense centric Ratchet game, they are using the same abysmal Ratchet model from All 4 one...Why the fucking fuck would you use that stupid, childish, juvenile, insulting version of Ratchet when you could have used the badass version of Ratchet seen in every other Ratchet game?
I don't know, I guess I'm just bummed that they are only making this Tower Defense crap to save time and money. When I heard a new Ratchet game was coming out on PSN, I was so excited. I literally couldn't shut up about it. This is my favorite series after all. But after hearing about what it actually is, I feel cheated. I feel like they were obligated to make this.
The whole thing feels like they HAD to make this for Sony, and they are just taking the easy and cheap way out by making it a Tower Defense centric game. Sure, they say it isn't ALL Tower Defense, but every preview I've seen says otherwise, including this one. That's not Ratchet. Ratchet is about exploring, platforming, and blowing things up along the way.
This is...defending areas as Ratchet. That is not what fans were asking for.
And BTW, it's spelled Qwark, not Quark.
@EKGProd: Woah, man. What's with the hate for Ratchet's character model? I don't see how it's much different, let alone "stupid, childish, juvenile, insulting" :\
I played Up Your Arsenal's multiplayer all the time in it's heyday. I think even made one of the siege leaderboards! Between the HD remake and what this could potentially have in terms of multiplayer, I think I'll be enjoying my fix of Ratchet & Clank this year, unless they somehow screw this up.
@Kakulukia They already answered the "Where are the lombaxes?" question at the end of Tools of Destruction, I believe.
And as I've already said, worst case scenario = there's always that also tasty HD collection incoming.
Well said mate. Couldnt agree more!
Also, fuck Kratos, Snake or Master Chief! Mr. Zurkon is the biggest fucking badass in videogames!
The hate comes from love. I love Ratchet & Clank dearly. I've been gaming for over 25 years. I've played everything and anything. I've played everything from Memory on the Atari 2600 to Uncharted. In other words, I'm a huge gamer that spares no expense. After all the money I've spent on games, I can only think of one franchise that makes me smile like an idiot whenever I play it. That franchise is Ratchet & Clank.
I adore this franchise. It is the epitome of perfect game design in my opinion. It literally has something for everyone. They are amazing shooters. They are amazing action platformers. They are amazing adventures. The story's and voice acting is always top notch. The level design is always perfect. The creativity on display with most Ratchet & Clank games rivals any other game on the planet.
So when I hear that they are pushing aside most of that in order to squeeze in some Tower Defense...It's like watching your best friend turn their backs on you for some cheap hamburgers. Sure, the hamburgers taste good, but Tower Defense sucks. I'm sorry, I lost whatever I was going for there mid-sentence. Anyway, I hate because I care.
Ratchet is about action platforming. Not about Tower Defense. Nobody was asking for that. No Ratchet fan was thinking to themselves "Gee, I wish Ratchet & Clank had more Tower Defense in it". Nobody was asking for anything other than more traditional Ratchet. So, why would they be giving us what we don't want? Because it is cheap and easy to do. That's why.
And about the Ratchet model. Look at the Ratchet model for A Crack in Time. He's awesome. Then look at the Ratchet model for All 4 One...He looks like Pixar got a hold of him and made him all cutesy. Again, nobody was asking for that. According to sales numbers, both Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time sold very, very well. They were core, traditional Ratchet games. They were what everyone wanted. A Crack in Time is in my top 5 games of all time list as a matter of fact.
Then look at the numbers for All 4 One. It is a serious drop. Why would that be? Honestly, it is because they took what everyone loved and threw it out the window. What we got instead was a childrens game. Ratchet was never a childrens game. It was a core gamers game. And now I see then not only using the same childish Ratchet model from All 4 One, but they are once again forgoing what Ratchet fans want and giving us what we never asked for.
I think I have a right to be mad. I don't get mad often. I love Devil May Cry, but I didn't get mad at the redesign and I can't wait for the new one, for example. I usually don't jump in on the hate when a developer dares to change something. However, with Ratchet and Clank, it's personal. I've been supporting these games for so long. Buying tons of copies of every one sold to give to friends and family members. I've spent thousands on these games. No joke. Thousands.
And when I see them ignore what Ratchet fans were asking for in order to save a quick buck, I would rather them not do it at all. Tower Defense is a cheap mechanic to stretch out a short game, that's all it is good for when inserted into a non tower defense game. Like Assassins Creed Revelations. They took what was a simple, quick mechanic in all the previous Assassins Creed games, and converted it into a time sucking Tower Defense game in Revelations.
And all that conversion did was piss people off.
Otherwise, I'm also a huge Ratchet fan, and after what a letdown All 4 One seems to have been (I've not even bothered to download it for free), I get why you'd be concerned.
Given that I wasn't shown any story footage, despite how funny the premise is, I'm still concerned about them attaining that lovely level of humor from past games.
Watched the opening from the first game in the HD collection (will be writing a mini-preview for it soon, as it's already out outside of North America) and literally laughed out loud three times just at Qwark's introduction.
